“I had hoped for voluntary compliance so our public safety officials could focus on assisting with the crisis," Wolf said in a video statement. "Unfortunately we have not seen full compliance. We have no time to lose.”
Good. I think we need a healthy dose of “you’re ruining it for everyone, stay the hell inside”* from leadership. (*obviously talking about people just going out for fun or whatever, not those who have to go out)
Chris Christie was an asshole, but I give him credit for when Hurricane Sandy was about to hit and he got on tv and basically said “get your asses home or else you’re going to die and we’re not going to come save you.”
Exceptions are for emergencies - car accidents, heart attacks, if you need a cancerous tumor removed, if you have dental pain/infection, etc. Basically, exceptions for common sense stuff if the person will be harmed if the procedure isn't done, otherwise your dental cleaning, cosmetic surgery, joint replacements, and cataract surgeries have to wait in order to preserve medical equipment.
Not CO, but WA just did this too, and according to the WA site, "There are exceptions. For example, doctors can perform an elective surgery if delaying the surgery would cause harm to the patient within the next three months." I would think an abortion would fall under that category, but I obviously can't say for sure. Our governor is pro-choice, though, so I wouldn't expect this to be any kind of shady end-run around abortion care during a crisis.
Putting this here because (a) I don’t see any place else to put it, and (b) there has been speculation that Trump put Pence in charge of the coronavirus task force so he could ultimately replace Pence with Nikki Haley on the ticket.
Nikki Haley has resigned from Boeing's board of directors over the company's pursuit of federal assistance in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the company disclosed Thursday.
Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said that while there is "no better team I could think of being a part of" than Boeing, she had to resign since she "cannot in good faith support the direction of the team."
"I cannot support a move to lean on the federal government for a stimulus or bailout that prioritizes our company over others and relies on taxpayers to guarantee our financial position," Haley wrote in a resignation letter included in the filing. "I have long held strong convictions that this is not the role of government."
Haley informed Boeing, which has a large plant in South Carolina where the 787 Dreamliner is assembled, of her decision to resign March 16. Her resignation is effective immediately. She first joined the aviation giant's board of directors in April 2019, several months after departing the Trump administration.
The Senate’s newest member sold off seven figures worth of stock holdings in the days and weeks after a private, all-Senators meeting on the novel coronavirus that subsequently hammered U.S. equities.
Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) reported the first sale of stock jointly owned by her and her husband on January 24, the very day that her committee, the Senate Health Committee, hosted a private, all-Senators briefing from administration officials, including the CDC Director and Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institutes of Health of the United States, on the coronavirus.

That’s good for WA but expect red states to exploit this.
“He was not worried about his family or his older relatives — “we’re all in good health” — and has gone ahead with plans to take a vacation in Arizona, where he plans to visit family and go out to restaurants as usual. The only bummer, he said, is that some parts of the Grand Canyon are closed.”
Have fun as all restaurants in Phoenix and other cities have closed except for takeout. I would not give even a ‘meh’ if these people ended up in the ICU.
And there's this part - One of Loeffler’s two purchases was stock worth between $100,000 and $250,000 in Citrix, a technology company that offers teleworking software and which has seen a small bump in its stock price since Loeffler bought in as a result of coronavirus-induced market turmoil.
Uh yeah would that qualify as insider trading?? Because that's very fucked up on the part of both of those senators. At the very least they should have ethics inquiries or whatever against them, but I would prefer some kind of legal prosecution. 😡😡😡

The real question is: why didn't any of us think of this! I stocked up on Gatorade a month ago, why didn't I stock up on stock?
Through my connections actually this hasn’t been as bad as we thought it might be. We’re hoping that telemedicine restrictions and mife REMS restrictions will be lifted by the FDA, but that might be a fighting battle. But we’re trying. However, even in hostile states my colleagues have been saying that their hospitals are saying that abortions aren’t elective procedures. Independent clinics can make their own decision and obviously they’ll stay open. Obviously that doesn’t account for every place, but so far so good at many places.
I know in my progressive state abortion care is also business as usual except a few changes as staffing has gone down. I worked twice this week providing care and things went well.
Sorry I just realized this is the news thread and I started chatting. Apologies!
I'm old enough to remember when we had a board member who said she felt no regret over her vote for Burr.
Seriously fuck that guy.
Also a fuck you to Kelly Loeffler. I mean, who the fuck just randomly decides its time to invest six figures in Citrix while dumping all your other investments?

Yes it's insider trading.
In 2012. Burr was one of just three senators who voted against a bill to classify these actions - ie congress people using inside information for stock trades - as insider trading. It's the law now, despite his objections.
Not verified but Inhofe also appears to have dumped stock. I've seen references to four GOP senators, so I'm trying to figure out who the fourth is. Any individual stock dump looks suspicious, but for a bunch of them to dump so much stock? Holy shit.

JFC. How do we keep finding a new rock bottom to hit?
Also, are Trump’s stock dealings public like those of Congress, or are he and his crappy family going to continue to get away with their shady ass deals?
Soon after he offered public assurances that the government was ready to battle the coronavirus, Sen. Richard Burr sold off a significant percentage of his stocks—between $582,029 and $1.56 million of his holdings on Feb. 13 in 29 transactions.
pixy0stix- I know this isn’t a chat thread but I don’t think responses necessarily belong in the daily random chit-chat thread. Especially,l without posting the same news link.

I believe it was public knowledge on Feb 13 that there is a nasty virus coming for us. So not insider trading because it was in the media. Crappy though, and I’m sure he had more details than the public, and there might still be some laws that apply here.
