OMG. I recently moved, but I am still on the memos for the real estate brokerage where I worked in IL. I can't even tell you the number of e-mails I've seen since the shelter in place order was announced today. So many agents complaining that their photographer, inspector, whatever is no longer working and asking who else they can try. Idiots, you are not performing an essential service and neither are your service partners. Why is this so hard for people to understand??

I have a possibly dumb question. In areas that are now on a lockdown, can you be out in your yard? Everything I've read refers to orders for people to stay in their homes.

The ER doc said I could be in my own yard. I think as long as it’s your own yard it’s ok. Sucks for people without a yard. 😞
Getting vitamin D and fresh air is super important.

Backyards are fine here in NY if you have them. I am practically living in my backyard.

Yards should be fine as long as you're six feet from people. And even under shelter in place people can leave to get groceries.
As for outside exercise where you leave your property, I think it varies depending on location. In the Bay Area, you can still go outside for exercise if you stay six feet from other people. Here's a NYT explainer:
If I live in a community that is under a shelter-in-place order, can I run or walk outside? This answer is easy: yes. The San Francisco County health department’s order, which is likely to be a model for similar announcements, says that people may leave their homes “to engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with social distancing requirements as defined in this section, such as, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, or running.” So, as long as you remain six feet away from other people (not counting those in your household), you can exercise outside.

I’m hoping it still means we can exercise outside. I’ve been dragging my dog o. 3-4 mile walks every day to try to exhaust us. My yard is small, I’ll get dizzy doing miles in it!

Here in NY you can go for solitary exercise outside (or with your household members) with the six feet rule. ETA: Never mind, NY is using “solitary” in its order.

Excellent. So H and I can take long walks with the pup, who will not do well without exercise.
Is anyone else hearing rumblings from people who were sick in November or December saying they had the exact symptoms of Covid-19 and they probably already had it, and thus concluding that everyone needs to chill out? In the last day or two I've started hearing this from the same lovelies who two weeks ago "weren't concerned" or "it's a hoax." I apologise if this has been addressed somewhere, but it sounds like some more maga crap, but I can't figure out where it's coming from.
Yeah I do think it's been here for longer than we realized. I'm sure some people have had it and not known obviously. However, no that doesn't mean people need to chill out. My SO is convinced he had it (I just politely say ok even though I don't think so ha), but he's actually being more careful then ever and has told all his friends who even hinted at thinking this was a joke to get it together and take this seriously.
99% sure we’re in the same city right now- is it like spring break weekend where you are? Because my neighborhood parks are completely full of people just chilling and sipping drinks and laughing it up. It’s fucking terrifying.

I live in basically a hotel efficiency. I might actually go crazy(er than I already am). As far as I've read I don't think anyone is 100% restricted to inside their homes. They just can't go in public spaces with a few exceptions. Your yard is not public.
Rumors are that here in Florida we'll soon be ordered to shelter in place. About time, if you ask me. The beaches are more crowded on a daily basis than they are on a typical summer weekend. And it's not just people here for spring break. My area isn't a spring break destination (too cold), but the beaches have still been packed. The local mayors were begging people to stop going, but as of 5pm today the beaches will be closed, and anyone caught on the beach will be given a trespassing citation. They also (finally) said restaurants have to be take out only.
I am also trying to figure out what I should do with my eyebrows (and upper lip for that matter). When I get waxed it hurts for like 4 seconds and then it’s over. But tweezing hurts over and over again! And I can’t tweeze my lip. I don’t trust myself with DIY wax. Maybe I’ll make my H watch a YouTube video? He’s very precise lol.
I just found out my effing mother and one aunt went to FL for the week (they came home today because of the shelter in place implemented). Their mother just got out of the hospital and is very immunocompromised and they probably will still visit her. I'm super pissed to hear this and so is the rest of the family. So yeah they were some of the idiots.

I could use a reality check if anyone cares to opine. I’m delivering meals to elderly people, not normally shut ins per se, but certainly not leaving the house now. I delivered one meal tonight to an upscale senior housing complex (the meals are not always need based. Sometimes a son or daughter purchases one for an elder.) I parked in a visitor spot, walked in through the unlocked garage door, and took the elevator up to her floor and gave it to her.
No lock No sign in. No visitor pass. No security. No sanitizer. I’m pretty peeved about it. As I am planning on moving to senior housing myself I have visited this place and while I had already selected another place, I have an email address for the director and am thinking of mentioning it to them. Is this over the top?

I found out that all professional services, including real estate brokers, are considered essential and therefore exempt. What is the point if pretty much everyone is considered essential.
Someone on my FB feed said that liquor stores won't be considered essential if we have to shelter in place. I beg to differ. (Tongue in cheek, mostly.)
Some guy who lives/works in the Grand Canyon posted videos of people getting off buses, trains, going to points of interest in big groups. So much for social distancing.

In PA liquor stores closed. The lines on the day they announced the closures were insane.

The VA Department of Emergency Management had a FB post up today sharing info that since liquor stores here are run by the state, they are considered a government function and therefore qualify as “essential” under the law they were created with, apparently.

Yeah there’s definitely been discussion about how they’re essential for people with alcohol use disorder. Could definitely see a spike in severe withdrawal and death if stop drinking abruptly. Talking about it at my clinic.

Which is honestly SO dangerous given the state of the health care system writ large currently. We do not need to be creating any new issues that will need to be solved, particularly foreseeable ones.

I literally can't afford to lose this delivery gig now.

I"m curious how it works if you live in a shelter state but work in a free for all state (IL to MO). Or vice versa I guess. I mean, I don't have a job right now, so it doesn't effect me, but I'm curious what my old job will do as half of the employees live in IL.
