Yes! I listened to the podcast last year and as soon as it popped up I had to watch it. My husband was even into it and he’s never really interested in my true crime stuff.
My heart absolutely breaks for those exotic animals. Not a single fucking person cared about them. It was all about money and status, every step of the way.

I agree with you. And Carol can say all she wants it is about the animals, but the stuff about the hours her volunteers work to get a different color shirt shows she doesn't really care about people, either.
I keep hearing about this. But if it has mistreatment of animals I won’t be able to watch it.
We watched the first episode last night and I don't plan on continuing. It doesn't show any overt cruelty (based on your definition) but I can't handle the big cats caged and crowded together. The crowds of people paying for their baby tiger time and getting their selfies was enraging. I don't know that the answer is for animals like that already in captivity but breeding sure as hell shouldn't be allowed.
It might not be that bad if I was in a better place otherwise but I can't right now. It was too upsetting.

Yeah, that counts as mistreatment in my books so I'll be skipping this one.

I have a lot of thoughts about Carol - don't get me wrong. And the fact she pays no one and then wants people to basically give their lives to her sanctuary? She has her own set of issues, no question.
But the bolded - I don't know that I agree with that. It about gaining experience to move up to the next level of involvement with the animals. I feel that there is a LOT that isn't being said in this documentary, but at face value - I don't see that Joe does ANYTHING to ensure his people actually know anything about working with large animals. I feel like Carol does have some kind of system in place where people have to gain experience and work their way up.

Good point. I can see that. I think it was just the number of hours she required but I didn't think about the training to be with the animals.
I have one episode to go. This is reeeeal fucked up. And I cried at them pulling the cubs away immediately after birth. It’s so fucking terrible. How is there no regulation of this shit

That was awful. It reminded me of the content in Blackfish and how they talked about the mothers mourning the babies being taken from them.

And then he sat there and complained that the cubs cried all night. OF COURSE THEY FUCKING DID. You ripped them from their mother immediately!

A place where I had my 7th birthday was briefly mentioned, but I think it was brief because it's on the pretty decent list. NatGeo has filmed there. It's a safari park with 600 acres and a lot of free range animals. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they bought their animals from Joe instead of rescuing and that's why they were mentioned. I was doing other things and missed a lot but didn't care enough to rewind.
I'm halfway through, but I did read it got completely crazy.
Carol totally killed her husband.
Agreed that at the halfway I think crazy polygamist cult guy is worse than Joe.
I honestly thought this was about the man in Zanesville, OH who released all of his animals and now I am wondering just how many of these people exist.

there are 5,000 - 10,000 tigers in captivity in the US.
