Well now I'm really annoyed. I finally got around to calling the lawyer and they want us to come in in person. Apparently the lawyer gets to appear via video chat, but the borrowers and representative from the bank have to show up in person. I really don't know what we're going to do.
We’re in the process here in Canada. Managed to snag 2.39% before the rates jumped up again. We’ve been told someone will come by our house and we can sign on the front porch on April 15th. We shall see how that works out.
We locked at the beginning of March, 2.875 for 15 years. We just closed yesterday.
The notary came to our house. We signed at a table in the back yard. She was wearing gloves and an n95 mask. We used our own pens and washed our hands well, right after. We weren’t 6 feet away because we had to hand papers back and forth, but it seemed relatively safe, considering the situation.
Update - we closed on our refi last week. We were quoted 3.125% at the end of February on a 30 year. We locked in at 3.25% and we were able to remove PMI which means we are saving almost $400 a month.
We closed today! We started the process in the beginning of March and closed today on a 15 year at 2.75. The lawyer went over the documents with us in detail yesterday on the phone and literally covered every single page. We went in today and just signed, had no questions at all, so it took probably 15 minutes. Very easy experience!

In Illinois, real estate is still in full swing. I had 2 closings Thursday. But yes, some places will do a mobile notary. It really depends on where you’re located and what is considered essential.
