Here in MN things are still pretty quiet. H and I walked to a shopping center to drop off a return at a UPS store, and stopped in Target. It was quiet and they were out of all the hot items, but we are not yet running low on TP so whatever. We got more salad and my mouth was so happy to crunch fresh veggies! My mouth was also happy about the Cadbury eggs, I'm not a monster.
I am sick of this. Ugh. Rainy and dreary all weekend.
Also I am swamped already at work and now only working 80% (furlough). So that's great.

I'm definitely scared about the photos/videos I'm seeing coming out on NY :-( Hope everyone is able to stay safe.
I did my weekly grocery store run on Friday. We're overseas and haven't had any major issues with supply at the moment, so we're pretty fortunate there.
I am super unmotivated to work now that I'm home all day....I think I need to make a daily agenda for myself to help with that.
A friend of mine is a doctor in NYC. We used to be very close (in each other’s weddings close), but her husband voted for Trump, so I rarely speak to her now because I just can’t. I reached out to her in light of what’s happening and we talked for a few minutes. She’s not currently in a role at her hospital where she treats patients (she’s doing other COVID-related work) but she was told she’ll eventually be on the front lines.
A medical professional at the hospital where she works passed away, and it’s mentioned in news articles and it’s giving me anxiety. I was ok with our strained relationship before all this, but I’m just torn up about it now.
But what am I going to do, email her Trumper H for updates while she works round the clock?

We need the Easter candy to continue after Easter because a regular Reese’s just is not going to work in these times.
A friend and I have been trying to bring attention to our city, police, sheriff, health dept, ANYONE about a local church that is doing drive thru communion on Sundays. They are offering a COMMUNAL cup (that they say is fine because they sterilize it before??!) and they are not maintaining 6ft of distance obviously. And they are live streaming it on Facebook! I just can't. Offer pre-packaged communion if you absolutely can't get through a Sunday without it but what they are doing is reckless and inexcusable.

I’m frightened for NY. My whole family is there and I’m worried. It sucks being stuck overseas alone and worried about yourself and your family. I picked up an Rx of Xanax.
I’m pissed at one work place. I do freelance English teaching at universities and one private language school. The universities are all setting us up online to teach (semester starts after Easter), allowing us to teach from home. All of this training has been done without us coming in. The private language school wants us to come in and teach online from there. They find it important that we are still in the classrooms and dressed professionally for their clients. The past two weeks I have found someone to cover my class because I’m not comfortable trekking into the center of the city for this. I have decided that I am going to leave that job because it’s not worth risking my health because then I will lose all my other jobs. It’s only 50 a week and I need the money, but I need my (and of course others do as well) health more. The government is telling us to stay home! I’m not even sure why they are still allowed to even be open. I hope I’m doing the right thing.

I mean even the pope says you can confess straight to God at the moment.

Thank you for thinking of us. We are fine. It’s odd reading the news knowing this is all happening right here but also doesn’t feel like it because we’ve been hunkered down at home, rarely leaving if at all. I also live in the least-populous city borough with a lot less density (we have a house and a backyard as do most people here), so we also aren’t dealing with anxiety about being on top of one another, if that makes sense. I’ve been reading updates from healthcare workers in our three hospitals and while not a war zone like other city hospitals, it is worrisome.
I’m most worried about my mom though. She’s a hospital cleaner working in a different city borough. She happened to have scheduled vacation last week so today is her first day back at work since 3/13 and I’m so concerned. She’s healthy and only 56 and she primarily cleans admin offices, but I am sure she will be asked to help clean patient areas. The news about the lack of PPE is horrible. I need this shit to end.
In much better news, my staff whose parents tested positive told me her mom (hospitalized; dad is mild) is on the mend and may be coming home soon. Her mom had lung cancer a few years back and now COPD, so I was super worried and it’s amazing that she’s doing better. Since we are further ahead we are now hearing a lot more good news about recovery and I’m trying to stay focused on that.
SusanBAnthony it is a Lutheran church (the conservative kind, not the progressive kind). I grew up going to a church that did communion every Sunday but they never would have put communion over the health and welfare of their members.

Me too (not Lutheran but weekly communion). We always had tiny shot glasses of grape juice and individual bread though. I do not at all get the shared cup. Super icky to me.
Question for those in areas with stay at home orders. Are golf courses still open where you are? They are here and people are very divided about it. They are saying maintain 6ft of social distance, no groups over 10, clubhouses/food are shut down and no shared golf carts are allowed (some banned them altogether, others disinfect between users).

They are allowed to be open here, as are tennis courts. I really disagree with tennis courts being open and the club we belong to is locked up.

I no longer live in IL, but my parents do. My dad and I were just talking about this because he had friends (senior men) who went golfing. They closed them initially, then opened them up (but no carts, food, etc), then closed them again. Currently, they are closed.

Just looked at this again. Tennis was allowed under county orders, but I think it's prohibited under the state order that goes into effect today (NC).
My boss just asked HR to draft a letter to give permission for my team to go to the office.
There is no reason for us to go in the office! There is one task we do that could 100% be done by a team that is already in the office and would take them maybe 20 minutes a week. He knows this!!!!

As posted on FB:
NYer here! I haven’t been able to find toilet paper, so much so that friends from AZ are sending me some. FedEX won’t send anything to nonessential businesses, and the postman is covered in gloves and masks, no friendly smile that normally greets us.
All local restaurants are closed because it’s too expensive to stay open for just take out.
Schools have been closed for weeks, grocery stores have nothing on their shelves.
The president is arguing with our governor on what we need and if we should be quarantined.
People are dying at alarming rates including family and friends of my students.
It’s a dark place to be. It’s especially hard when talking to people other places who aren’t social distancing appropriately or thinking this is some media sensationalized illness.
I’ve been pleading with my parents to stay home and to make sure everyone around them stays home. I want to shake them when they allow my niece to visit friends and then return to their house.
It’s a dark time. We need the whole country to take this seriously.

This doesn't answer your question, but I am so sick of the "no groups over 10 people" rule. I feel like it's being used to excuse a lot of business as usual. 10 is not some magic number, it only takes 1 person with the illness to expose the other 9 people! I feel like some people aren't getting that though.

That is frustrating. I thought I was going to have to go into the office once a week for mail, but someone who is already there is willing to scan our mail (we don't get a lot, but what we get has to be processed fairly quickly).

Agree. And it only works if those 10 people are the ones who already live in your house. If you're seeing people you don't live with then you're part of the problem.

I am so relieved I don't have to go in.
We have one person scanning mail for us already. We just need agreement from someone else to send out our checks (we still are on paper). I will be asking if the people who cut our checks can stuff them in an envelope with the appropriate paperwork and stick them in the mail. That way no one who doesn't have to be in the office has to come in.
I asked my boss to take care of this but instead he's focused on getting us letters so we can still come in.

Priorities, right? I think some people still don't get that it's safer for everyone, including people who are already in the office, for fewer people to go in.
I'm sure this is going to sound like an off-the-wall question, but when does everyone think it will be safe to fly (domestically)? We had planned on a visit to Texas to visit my dad this year. He's 70 and not in the best health. We only see him about once a year. My original plan was his 70th birthday in March but I waited too long. Then we thought about the spring before it gets too hot. We decided to push back to July before C-19 became a reality in the US. Tickets are now $100 round trip for July for basic economy. Am I stupid to book now? I assume these types of tickets aren't refundable but I haven't read the fine print.
