Question for those in areas with stay at home orders. Are golf courses still open where you are? They are here and people are very divided about it. They are saying maintain 6ft of social distance, no groups over 10, clubhouses/food are shut down and no shared golf carts are allowed (some banned them altogether, others disinfect between users).
Am watching CNN and every time they should the medical ship pulling in, I get choked up.
I watched the USNS Comfort pull out and it was definitely emotional. My cousin's wife is a medical resident at Mount Sinai in NYC (and she's in a pulmonary specialty program so she's truly on the front lines). I sent her a pic of the ship leaving and she texted me back how much it meant to see that. He's to hoping it can relieve some of the burden.
My girlfriend is a nurse on the USNS Mercy. Her situation is interesting. I know her because our husband's are both Navy pilots (and she was actually a Navy helicopter pilot before transitioning to nursing). Her husband's F-18 squadron is deploying next month and her deployment on Mercy is unexpected. They have two elementary aged boys and their family plan is difficult because all of the grandparents are older and live on an opposite coast.
All of this to say there are a lot of amazing people making a lot of sacrifices right now to save lives.

I can't get over the people from out of state pouring into Maine. You know, the state that only has 198 ICU beds and 291 vents for the entire state. And one of the largest elderly populations in the country.
Like, what is your plan for when you get sick? And yes, I say when, not if, because the truth is that there is nowhere that is safe right now. You can't run away from this. The places with low numbers at the moment are only low because the virus hasn't really taken off yet, and when it does we're going to be so screwed.

They are open in my town, and hotly being argued over on our town FB page. People are not happy, and say most are not following the 'posted' rules. People are also traveling from NY to my town for their summer homes, and people are pissed to see NY plates at grocery stores etc.
So basically no one is following any rules and it's a hot mess here in CT.

Most of the ones in CA are closed. Maintenance/ security staff are still working. Ones with private members may still allow them to play on their own, walking or driving their own cart. My city courses were open for 2 days after the SIP order from the governor, but they also shut down all parks and rec right after that. We don’t even have hiking trails or less populated recreation areas open. I’m only aware of 1 golf course still open and they are connected to a hotel and have private members, so they are arguing a loophole along with the hotel. I wouldn’t be surprised if they shut down this week. They are implementing social distancing, disinfecting carts, 1 person to a cart, not handling bags, etc.
SIP is likely happening in VA today. I heard the beaches were a shitshow over the weekend. It’s overdue. People were doing ok with the social distancing in the first week but then everyone started pushing the bounds.
@@@our neighbor works in critical care at the largest hospital in the region and they are still letting their kids play with other kids (and other families don’t give a shit!). I get that it’s hard but COME ON.
The neighborhood FB page has been a great way to identify the Karens who want to call the coronavirus’s manager. Hardship is an extra wait on food delivery. Watching other neighbors read them in the comments has become my new hobby.
Anyone have a link to the range of symptoms? H had a fever and sore throat, started Thursday. Fever broke yesterday. No coughing or trouble breathing, just the fever, sore throat and sever lethargy. He's convinced it wasn't/isn't Covid because it's done already and no breathing problems. But his strep culture just came back negative. He's calling the health department now to see what they say, but I think there's a chance it could have been Covid, just mildly. Or am I just being paranoid?
Do you have an iPhone? There’s an app created by Apple that’s pretty good. Obviously no guarantees but covers a wide range. Hope he’s okay.
Regarding groceries - we have several restaurants in my city that are bundling up their grocery dlieveries and selling "basics" packs. It usually contains eggs, butter, milk, flour, some produce, a protein, and toilet paper. Since they can't be open, they're just rolling through what they're getting from their restaurant suppliers on to customers. Is anyone else's state/city allowing restaurants to do this? It's helping to ease the load from the grocery stores a bit so they can get their shelves restocked.
Grocers have the stock, but people shopping daily and depleting those items faster than they can be put on the shelves. I wonder how difficult it would be to assign everyone a shopping day based on their address. I'm sure it would seem too "commie" to the good ol' folks of Texas, though.
My neighborhood brewpub is doing this. I assume they have a bunch of stuff they need to get rid of, plus they'll sell you a growler of good beer.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Not quite the same, but an acquaintance of mine owns an Italian restaurant and they’ve been having success selling cook at home packages and vacuum-sealed cuts of meat.
H called the health department and they won't test him. If he calls his employer they wont let him work, but he doesnt have enough sick leave to cover the leave and if he doesnt have it now and gets it later he's screwed. My employer has told me to stay home until he either gets a test or we wait out the 2 weeks. So.

Doing pretty well. Our health center, hospital and all my coworkers including residents have been wonderful. I’m not really watching the news since i’m here and working and getting updates, but it’s not all doom and gloom, there are some bright spots. We have enough PPE to feel safe and everyone just has their heads down and working. For me it definitely can come in waves of being a little nervous, but overall since I feel like we’re supported I’m feeling ok. Taking care of patients this morning actually felt good. I’m doing abortion care later this week and am glad I live in a state/city that hasn’t restricted that access. A part of me does wish I were with my SO at our house in our other city and I wasn’t here alone, but overall I’m happy to be in nyc right now caring for patients.
I do wish I were making more money though since my SO’s income has gone to zero lol. It might be a few rough months financially but I’m being optimistic that we’ll be ok.
My co-worker most likely has the virus but is being told they won't test her since she's not sick enough to be hospitalized.
Which really goes against what the governor has said and what other counties are doing.
I know a few people in my city who have the virus (tested) and now their spouse is sick and they won’t test them, because they’re not sick enough to be hospitalized or don’t have underlying health conditions (which is how my friends got tested). Our numbers are artificially low all over the country.

I survived the first furlough, but I don't expect to make it past this month. I've spent the morning piecing together who is left on my team and its not a lot.
I'm really hoping that Comcast can lower my bill. I don't qualify for their low cost option because I'm already a Comcast customer.
Before shit hit the fan, and I thought I had an income coming in, I bought my new phone. I think that'll let me go to a pay as you go plan which should save me money, I hope.

I’m watching MSNBC and I don’t know much about mayor Garcetti of LA. but I just heard him say the USNS Mercy, which is docked there, would be “a COVID19-free bubble.” And I want to say, “Dude have you not been paying attention?” I’m sure they know what they’re doing and I pray for them all but how in the world do they expect to keep it out? And once it’s on board, I’m sure they’ll contain it better than the cruise lines but will they really be able to contain it?

I’ve gotten several calls from nurse recruiters and I feel guilty saying no. I’m still working my contract hours (and more for free) from home and taking on more hours isn’t really feasible, but I feel like I’m not doing my part somehow. I’m high risk, but I feel selfish for putting myself and my household first.

Yep, which is so frustrating. And I've seen two people twist this in a way to say we can't trust the death rate because "the government is hiding numbers from us!" So that's an extra fun layer
My BIL works for a golf course in Florida, and they voluntarily shut down a week ago.
He's using his time off to take care of his father who has stage 4 cancer, and I just hope for everyone's sake, he's not unsuspectingly taking coronavirus to his dad. He was on a golf course surrounded by rich, boomer Floridians until last Monday...yeesh.

There are going to be all sorts of sects of COVID truthers for decades and decades. And honestly, given the fuckery of this administration, I can totally see myself on a Reddit board one day all
