So my Mom and I have discussed the evolutionary theory on viruses (she’s a virologist). He is correct that when we Coronavirus have appeared through human history they have a very bad initial impact and then they generally evolve and change to become milder (ergo the common cold versions that we have going around at any time). My Mom considers SARS and Ebola to be bad viruses since they kill off their host too fast to spread. Covid-19 is a very potent mix that falls outside the norms. The fact that people can be asymptomatic spreaders is bad. The long incubation period is bad. The virulence and death rate is bad. While over hundreds of years if given a chance it may become like the common cold to the majority of the human population (especially once you’ve had it once and survived and produce antibodies), since no one has any immunity at this time you can’t look at it that way. The best and only way to limit its spread is to deny it people through isolation (transmission vectors) or to produce a vaccine and thereby deny it transmission vectors through immunity.
So he’s full of shit.
Does your mom want to join the boards and just lay down facts all day please?
Unfortunately she’s insanely busy right now! She’s not enjoying her part time retirement very much.
She does want the disease to pass through as few people as possible. If it doesn’t have a chance to mutate and change then we have a better chance of really nailing it with a vaccine and slowing/stopping the spread. She is concerned this could be like the new influenza that we’re constantly chasing every year.

IL just got “stay-at-homed” until April 30, per Gov. Pritzker’s daily update. Schools, obviously, closed until then.
I think our peak is set for mid-April, so I wonder if SAH will be lifted in May or continue.
And they are asking all licensed medical professionals to register here: illinoishelps.net/
Indiana has school canceled until May 1 and “non essential” businesses are closed until next week I think. although the businesses on the “essential” list are ridiculous (car dealers are open, home good and electronics stores are doing curbside pickup of online orders). We are expecting out peak mid April as well. Several of my non hospital Dr friends (I.e. people in veterinary services, eye drs, etc) received an email earlier this week, essentially to be backfill for the hospitals should the front line medical professionals go down.

I thought for sure the governor would announce that we were under the "stay in place" mandate until the end of April. He just seemed to dance around it .

Maine governor issued a stay-at-home order that goes into effect tomorrow. Outdoor activities like hiking, biking, running, and fishing are still permitted as long as you maintain social distancing.
The administration has placed a moratorium on USAID’s overseas shipments of personal protective gear. Move comes after US asked Thailand for help last week only to be told that a US shipment of the same supplies was already on its way to Bangkok.
Are they? I'd thought that despite the Franklin connection the org itself is pretty good with physical aid. They're a FEMA approved partner for disaster relief, not that that means they aren't anti because that probably happened under W.
They're still doing a lot of work in the Bahamas post Dorian, helping my friends and family. But, most of those wouldn't care if they were anti as many agree with those views. It's not a coincidence that many have blocked me just from seeing my posts to others. H had really positive experiences with them in PR post Maria, and he's as adamant as I about wanting to get our government out of the business of supporting hate.

"9. We believe God’s plan for human sexuality is to be expressed only within the context of marriage, that God created man and woman as unique biological persons made to complete each other. God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family and the basic structure of human society. For this reason, we believe that marriage is exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female. Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5-6; Mark 10:6-9; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9."
