We are moving in May and will finally have space for exercise. I think we want to buy an elliptical machine. Does anyone have one they recommend? We do not need something top of the line so I'm hoping to stick to around $1000 or so.
If you order exercise machines online, does someone usually need to come to your house and set it up? I'm hoping we can get something sooner rather than later, we are both deteriorating sitting around our little apartment all the time.
We have a ProForm from Costco that fits that price range, and they brought it into our apartment and set it up. It’s fine. It does what an elliptical should do. We’ve had it 3 years and we’re starting to get some issues with squeaking, but we admittedly didn’t do any preventative lubricating. So that would be my biggest advice - pay attention to where and how often it should be lubricated and stay on schedule with that.
We have a Precor AMT that was a gym machine and refurbished. It was about $2k. It’s been good for the last 3 years but now my DH, my father, and I are all using it regularly since gyms are closed, and it has started squeaking really loudly. DH took the cover off and determined that there’s something broken, rather than it just being a lubrication issue. I have a repair guy coming tomorrow and plan to communicate with him by phone while he’s in the garage so that we don’t have to interact directly
I suggest a Peloton even though it’s not an elliptical. It’s the best purchase I have ever made. I know it’s expensive but highly recommend it. My husband went from never working out to being addicted. The classes are fun and we both are in the best shape of our life.
I just purchased and began to use the Proform 7.0 - not sure if it has a different name in the US. But it's great and comes with iFit (some companies will give you a free 1 yr subscription), so you get online classes and other fun stuff. My one has the ability to change both resistance and ramp level - when using it with iFit classes, the "instructor" makes the change and it automatically happens to the elliptical. If you don't use the iFit stuff, you can manually make the changes and there are pre-set workouts on it as well. I am loving it!

I was going to suggest something like this (ProForm with iFit). It's the same app as my bike. Being able to tour the world while exercising has made a huge difference, especially now.
I am not sure whether you can see much of what they offer without an account but I can send you some examples of the outdoor elliptical classes.

Thanks! I'm intrigued by Peloton, but I've only taken a spin class once in my whole life and I hated it. It was over a decade ago so I have no idea if I'd feel differently now, but I probably should do some in a gym before committing to buying something!
I bought a commercial grade Precor on Ebay in 2012 and it is the best $3000 i have ever spent. They run about 6-8K new, but this was a leased one from a gym and the lease was up.
madringal that's the same thing we did (but different seller). Update on the squeakiness - I had it serviced today for 200 bucks and it seems good as new. We have it in the garage so I just left the garage door open and had them communicate with me by phone. When they left I wiped down the machine twice.
