Ugh. I didn't even get a first round interview for an admin job here in my current district. I am so. fucking. sad. My good friend did, and I'm happy for him. And it's still shitty.
I applied for one in another district and havent heard anything yet. I'm sure that means I won't. I'm having a really hard time not taking this totally personally.
Does anyone have a cat with asthma? The guy in my avatar has had a cough for a while (last time I took him to the vet they said they couldn’t find anything). I’ve seen YouTube videos of feline asthma that look similar to what he’s doing. He sounded worse today than he has in a while.
My regular vet is closed to appointments, and they didn’t find anything wrong last time anyway, so I have to find a new vet tomorrow. Hopefully someone who lets me send in a video first.
Are there any national vet services where I can send them a video tonight, to get an idea of what might be wrong and how urgently he might need care? There’s a 24/7 emergency vet nearby where I could take him if need be but that’s obviously not my first resort.
I'm so sorry, taratru . That's the pits. It's totally ok to be happy for him and upset for yourself. Having been on a ton of hiring committees, sometimes it's just so freaking random. I'll keepmy fingers crossed for the other district.
Does anyone find watching tv these days you're scandalized by how close people are standing? Why are you giving that person a hug? Why did you kiss that person on the cheek? Why is that restaurant so full!
Yes i can’t handle TV right now. We have watched a bunch of depressing documentaries though

I had a cat with asthma (she passed away from old age a few years back). It would be worse some days more than others. It could get scary sometimes. However, I would definitely want to have taken her in if it got worse than it usually was. I don’t know if there is something where you can send a video.
Incidentally, I had to take my cat in today for an ear infection and they had a protocol set up where you pay over the phone, I called them when I got there and they came out into the parking lot with gloves and a mask and took her back. Then the vet came out to talk to me from my car. Hopefully you can get into a place that will do that tomorrow.
Yesterday Idaho experienced a tornado, then a series of earthquakes that culminated in a 6.5..the second largest of all time here.
Im waiting for a plague of frogs today.
I had this exact plague feeling last weekend. We had a major storm in San Diego and so much hail that it looked like snow cover for like 30 min. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen here. And it broke a bunch of our light bulbs which really sucked.
Anyone know of a retailer that has hand sanitizer in stock? We’re gonna start to get low soon. Thanks
I asked about this in the toilet paper thread. A couple people said that they have seen it at the airport. Otherwise, I looked everywhere I could think of and couldn't find any. I think your best chance will be to find out when the deliveries come in and show up then. It sells out as soon as places get it.
I ended up buying some from a site called willow and bramble last week, but it still hasn't shipped so I'm not sure I would recommend it.

Do you have any small hardware stores, like Ace. A lot of them are independently owned so stock probably differs from location to location. But, the one near me had some hemp based hand sanitizer in stock this week.
Ashley&Scott , af1212 , I did go in person to sing happy birthday to my aunt. I called when I was around the block from her place to wish her a happy birthday, then we walked in front of the sliding glass door by her kitchen table while we were still talking on the phone and surprised her. Then she came outside, we sang to her and shared cupcakes at a distance. I pre-packaged a separate cupcake for her then sanitized the outside of the container before setting in on her porch. She was really surprised and I was glad we did it

yeah they are out. I managed to get a small 5 pack from bath and body works at 7am in the morning and now they are sold out so everyone must be doing the same.

I'm sure once the word gets out, stock goes fast. I'm glad you were able to get a little bit.
My 98 year old grandfather died on January 31. In the last couple days, eleven people in his nursing home died of coronavirus.
I am so glad he passed when he did.
Hugs.
My grandmother passed away in 2018 and I've been thinking about how I am so glad that she passed away when she did. She had two hellish months of in home care / hospitals / hospice with my mom and uncle trying to be there with her. I was fortunate enough to visit her multiple times before she passed and it breaks my heart to think about these type of situations in today's environment.

yeah, same here. But I think if they closed the stores down to the public, that would free up a lot of employees to pick and deliver orders. Now, whether or not each store has the infrastructure to handle that kind of load, I doubt it. But it's a nice idea. LOL
This wouldn't work for a lot of people. If you use SNAP or WIC, you need to be able to pay with your card in store. For delivery or pickup, you have to pay in advance right? So you need a credit/debit card? Not everyone has a bank or credit card. Being able to avoid exposure via being able to avoid grocery shopping for yourself is a very privileged place to be. (Not directly this rant at you specifically. It's not something that a lot of people think about.)
actually some stores will accept food stamps as payment for pickup. Walmart does. I don't know if they'll do delivery, because I think you have to pay with your EBT card at pickup. WIC is a different story. I can't figure out why they can't put that on a card system like stamps are. At least here in MO, WIC still uses checks.

I've been searching for Lysol spray and disinfecting wipes (or their generic equivalents) for two weeks now (online only though) and can't find any anywhere.

I haven't read to see if you have other replies, but yes, my big black Persian has allergy-induced asthma. This allergy season is ROUGH because we had such a mild winter in the northeast. He's been having attacks, even with his meds. They sound like coughing fits and he usually has to stretch out his neck. They also tend to last for 30 seconds to a minute or so. He's on theophylline in liquid form, twice a day (he HATES it, so my husband does it, because he's already skeptical of my husband and it would impact our relationship). The theophylline helps open up the bronchial tubes. Some vets will also give you an inhaler/breathing treatment.
I don't think it's an emergency situation, but I get nervous whenever Maximus has an attack, because, like with people, I worry it could be serious, so I want to try to prevent him from having as many. I might call the vet that's open and see what they say, but I suspect it will just be, "bring him in" because they can't prescribe a medication to a cat they haven't examined.

YES! My lovable asshole stray cat who revealed the true extent of his lemon-hood after we couldn’t find an owner and let him into our house does! It comes and goes. His seems to be stress related. When we lived in a small rental with lots of windows and neighborhood cats that came around outside, he went into distress. Our vet called it “Pandora syndrome”. He did have to have a rescue shot of steroids during that time. Now, we manage it with the occasional steroid pill when we hear the wheezy/furball-but-no-furball cough.
In our experience, asthma is kind of hard to diagnose if it’s not in a full-blown distress scenario. We had a vet misdiagnose, thinking that the lemon cat likely swallowed something while playing. Sometimes it can be seen with imaging, but if you do end up finding someone to see him, definitely say, “I think it’s asthma, can we try a steroid taper?”
How are people able to go 2-3 weeks without getting groceries? We have enough stuff in our freezer for dinners for that long, but we need weekly trips for eggs, milk, bread, fresh fruit/veggies, etc.
I’ve realized everyone I know except us has either a second freezer or full size fridge in their garage. We do not and we can’t really fit more than a weeks worth of food in our fridge. We have some emergency stuff frozen. A few veggies and meat, but our freezer is a bottom drawer and not very big or efficient to use. Ive always hated it, but even more so now. There is no space for an extra loaf of bread or gallon of milk, LOL. We managed to go 8 days between grocery shopping trips and that’s about the best we can do.
