Today is C’s 6th birthday. We have had to cancel plans and multiple backup plans....and he’s not taking it well. He had a horrible day yesterday not listening, and we may have threatened to cancel his birthday and withhold some of his presents. After he went to bed we realized it was a horrible idea and we are of course going to still celebrate.
ETA: he was up at 5, and I managed to hold him off until 5:30 with shows on the firestick.
VillainV, Happy Birthday to C! I'm sorry he is so upset. Do you think you could arrange a birthday parade for him? We did one for our soccer coach yesterday and it was so much fun. Everyone stayed in their cars so it was totally safe from a social distancing perspective but the kids were so happy see to him, their teammates, and yell at each other from the car. It's definitely turning into a thing out here but seems to mean a lot to the person having the birthday.
We are skipping school today for the most part. It is currently 55, won't get warmer than 70, and is probably our last nice day for a long time. Taking full advantage.

The majority of our friends and family aren’t local. We are going to try to do a Zoom “party” this evening. Also we are doing drive-through pickup of his school packet today so he may be able to wave at his teacher from the car.
Our kids are sleeping until a pretty nice time most days (8:30-9 for the first graders) but that's because we don't make them go to bed until 9:30, 10, 10:30 (seems to get pushed back later every couple of days). My 7th grader almost never leaves her room, but I'm happy to report that she was a little more social yesterday and hung out with her younger brothers.
We bunked their beds over the weekend since we had time, and I told them I'd no longer be staying in their room until they fell asleep (I had been laying down in their room until they fell asleep, which usually meant I fell asleep and woke up around midnight to move into my bed). Even with the whining and crying, I managed to get out of their room for 3 nights. Last night we hit a road block and I told them I would sit in the chair in their room for "a little while." Of course I fell asleep in the chair and woke up at midnight. Sigh. H was helping me be strong and backing me up when I said I was going to leave their room after story and song time. But, on Monday he ended up going in there and sitting for a while because they were whining so much. He had a stark change of heart about my not staying in their room last night and told DS1 if he asked nicely maybe mom would stay in their room for a while So one night of his evening kid free time being taken away and he's happy for us to resume our old habits. Tonight I'm going to suggest that dad stay in their room for a while if they get whiney.

His internet stranger birthday twin wishes him a Happy Birthday!! I’m going to try to just work half the day and spend the afternoon with DS and DH. Not sure what we’ll do, exactly, but hopefully I don’t have to be “on” as much. I think DH is arranging a virtual play date and we had a decorate your own dinosaur cookie kit delivered from a bakery yesterday. I told him we could get pizza for dinner. Some of his gifts have arrived and some are held up due to shipping problems. I don’t think he’ll mind much. I’m a little more concerned that he’s convinced that he’s going to have his rescheduled birthday party on a specific date in June and who knows if the world will be “open” by then?!
My kid pulled a prank on me today. I went to go work out this morning and went to grab socks. All my socks were gone from my drawer. I was so confused. I didn't understand what happened. I even woke up DH to ask him where my socks were and he just started laughing lol. I have to admit it made me smile today
Last week I was trying to find a silver lining to being stuck home and I said "well, at least since we aren't going anywhere the kids won't get sick". Yesterday, DD2 woke up with a goopy eye and then I noticed her ear was all flaky too. I feel so bad I didn't realize she was sick. We called the pedi and they had us FaceTime with an NP and she prescribed eye ointment and ear drops for an eye infection and conjunctivitis. How does she get sick when we haven't taken her out of the house in over 2 weeks? <sob>
I'm glad we didn't have to go in, but I wish they could have actually checked her ears. We are only treating one but I wonder if we should treat the other too.

I deleted my FB before all this went down. but now I guess I need to delete a lot of my IG "friends"
I know the answer, but are we so starved for attention that we need to post things like "Day 16 : today we went for a walk, drew on the drive way with chalk, did some school work, played in the back yard"
And then there are the over achievers "Today we baked these ADORABLE little cakes and finished off our homemade telescope to view pluto, tomorrow we plan on finishing the vaccine for covid 19"
Mine would look like "Woke up at 8:30 made coffee, got kids down to start school, meltdown one two and three. Get set up, one starts annoying the other and causes a fight, then one is upset and making annoying whinging noises, the other is annoyed at the noises but also antagonizing a little bit so the other keeps whining. Oh cool, here comes meltdown four fine and six from both.. ::Me looks at clock:: "FUCK it's only 8:45"

DH took DD into the bedroom where he's working to help her with today's schoolwork. I was working on something that needed complete attention so that was a huge help. I think once she's done, we're just going to let her do whatever. As long as some of the screen time is vaguely educational and she reads some of her book, I'm good. We'll go for a long walk later and maybe get the Wii U out.
She asked for a Nintendo Switch yesterday and we're thinking about it. Thanks to my bonus and DH's increased salary, we have some extra disposable income this month.

I admit I’m doing a lot of this for elderly family and friends that are enjoying seeing pics of the kids. Some of the 80 yr old set don’t have photo text friendly phones but enjoy seeing pictures of the kids.

That makes sense. I will give you that, only a handful of my older family have IG.
Our will to maintain any kind of routine with the kids is pretty much nonexistent at this point. We were ok the first week and a half, but DH and I have both been busy with work, DS was sick over the weekend, and the novelty of being in charge of our own time has worn off. I'm hoping that once distance learning officially starts after "spring break" some of that will kind of anchor the days.
noodleoo, DS somehow ended up with a random virus of some sort (fever Fri night through yesterday BUT NO RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS), fever started literally the evening our 14 day quarantine was up after DH flew home from overseas. WTF, where did it even come from?
My kids' birthdays (7, turning 8) are coming up. DS only wants a Switch, but we told him its too expensive, so we said we would give him money and he could use his own to buy it.
DD only wants a fit bit. I know nothing. I have been a Garmin user my whole adult life. Is there a kids version? Should I get a kids version for an 8 year old? We can't see how this will be something she uses for a day and then gets bored with.

I have blocked so many people on my SM in the last few weeks. Most of them are either people like you mentioned (including my step sister, whose perfect children are perfect), or fear mongering pessimists and my mental health just can’t withstand the barrage of either type.
I’m trying to figure out some good low-key pranks for my kids today. H is in a crappy mood pretty much 100% of the time and won’t think anything is funny.

DD got a kid's fitbit for Christmas, but I picked it because I use a fitbit and it made it easier to set it up and track her stuff. She was wearing it every day until relatively recently, and really liked seeing her step count. I was amazed at how many steps she was getting during a normal school day.
One of DS's teachers posted this video and he loves it, has watched it several times and just came in again to tell me how it inspired him. Awesome
I’ve been posting videos for my students every day (mostly related to The Office, LOL), and they are loving them. Great conversation starters for our Zoom sessions since I’m not exactly “teaching” during those meetings. I’m going to use this one tomorrow!
(The other one that they loved was Krasinski’s “Some Good News”.)
3:45 is when my youngest woke up. Hope you slept later than I did.
You’ve had a few super early mornings lately, right? I’m sorry! It is so tough to have a happy, productive day when you are sleep deprived. Caffeine and virtual hugs to you (and maybe a nap?)!
breezy8407, my kids both have the Garmin kids watch, and it's fun. DS (just turned 7) goes through phases with it, DD (11) uses hers all the time. DH and I both have Garmin watches so that was our preference.
DH got our hot tub setup yesterday, about a month earlier than usual. I woke up to find him and DS in the there this morning drinking coffee and hot chocolate. An amazing way to start their morning after a few days of clouds and rain.

Oh wee love. That must be so tough for a young kid
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I post this kind of stuff (not the over achieving stuff, just the bare minimum here!) on my IG but that’s because it exports to Chatbooks and it’s how I document life/print pics. I couldn’t care less about likes or whatever, just trying to make sure the good and the bad of this time is documented for us to look back on it later!
We started distance learning this week. The kindergartener has had several assignments each day, and the third grader has barely had anything. Both have needed quite a bit of assistance, so I’m not getting much work done at all.
Adding to today's birthdays are my bf (who is 50!) and my grandmother who is 94. Plans for a 50th party went out the window but he seems happy with the boys waking him up with their homemade cards etc. My gran loved alone until earlier this year and I am so happy she is in a home now - they aren't allowing visitors but they have posted photos of her with her flowers this morning. She got 60 cards so far.
DS1 will be 8 on the 12th and DS2 will be 6 on the 10th - so we are also looking at kids birthdays is self-isolation. Fortunately I was organised and their presents came early before amazon shut to non-essentials.

yes it's hard. My husband and I trade off with who gets up with her in the morning so every other day I usually get to sleep til at least 8. I should go to bed earlier but I don't wanna, lol.
Her sleep issues have improved some since we started iron. She no longer wakes up 3-4 times a night or has long wakefulness periods any more, but the early wake ups won't stop. And we can't just ignore her because she is a head banger and has put literal holes in her wall when mad. She still naps so that is a sanity saver. We try to remind ourselves this too shall pass! Thanks for the hugs. I am on my second cup, haha

Mine has a Garmin but my husband works there so we are definitely a Garmin family, lol. My only complaint is that lots of the bands are geared towards younger kids. I wish they had solid bands. But you can buy off brand bands to use on them.
