We're not that hard hit (yet) so it's a tough call. I might choose to go myself rather than tack $50 onto my grocery bill. DH's business is in a tough spot, too, and that's a lot.
I could just do a local store that is charging $6 for curbside pick-up.
Is this local grocery store filling orders with their own employees or Instacart or Shipt shoppers? Because if it is a personal shopper they don’t see any of that $6 and they do all of the work while being subjected to the hazards of what is currently going on in public. Right now if you can’t afford to tip them decently then I suggest going to the store if you are able bodied.

I did 10% and rounded up on my last order, but good to hear what others do.
I added more to my tip after the delivery, wasn't sure if people do it in advance or afterwards
My dad (and this story is really long so I'm leaving out the details) had a instacart worker threatening to cancel his order "if you can't help me out and add more money". My dad was trying to work things from the bank end and didn't pick up on the guy was trying to get him to up the tip until he was telling me all the details of what he said.
So my takeaway from that, and what I learned from the possible strike, is that the regular tip is really too low so if I do a future order I plan on really taking all that into account.
Does anyone know once you change it (say from 5% to 20%) will it allow you to adjust again (assuming they can't fulfill the entire order)

I'm not sure, but I"m confused - if they can't fulfill the entire order, the order amount goes down and therefore you tip less since you are tipping a %. If they can't fulfill the order, that isn't the shopper's fault and they shouldn't be penalized.

Thinking through this....at first I was going to say if it's just a few things NBD but I think I got like 40% of my previous order
so originally is was 300, tip was default 15$
I got 120 worth of stuff, default tip adjusted to 6$, I made it 12$
but if I upped the tip in advance, then my 10% would be 30 dollars on a 120 bill ...so 25%, which is what others are doing anyways
so now that I type that out yes i think it makes sense to up just up the tip when I place the order

I have no idea what was normal before all of this. I had never done any sort of grocery delivery before. I signed up for Shipt, and we got our first orders last week. We tipped 20%.
