We finally have info about COVID’s impact on NYC neighborhoods. You may not be familiar with the geography of NYC but I’ll tell you that most of the highest-impact neighborhoods are poorer neighborhoods. And it’s only going to get worse.

Also, A lot of people in the neighborhoods are still working, live in teeny, tiny apartments with lots of family members including grandparents, in high rise apartment buildings with hundreds of tenants. I have no idea how they are going to be able to stop the spread in many of these communities.
Russia sent the United States medical equipment on Wednesday to help fight the coronavirus pandemic, a public relations coup for Russian President Vladimir Putin after he discussed the crisis with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump, struggling to fill shortages of ventilators and personal protective equipment, accepted Putin’s offer in a phone call on Monday. A Russian military transport plane left an airfield outside Moscow and arrived at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport in late afternoon on Wednesday.
Usually, the United States donates supplies to embattled countries rather than accepting them. The origin of the delivery, which Moscow called aid, was bound to revive criticism from Democrats that Trump has been too cozy with the Russian leader.
“Trump gratefully accepted this humanitarian aid,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was cited as saying by the Interfax news agency on Tuesday. Trump himself spoke enthusiastically about the Russian help after his call with Putin.

Why do I feel like this stuff is probably defective?
Also why have we heard nothing about COVID in Russia? What is happening there? It's a little worrisome to have no reports.
IIRC, the Russian government doing a short not-shutdown that they framed as "giving everyone a week off from work," but then people started making vacation plans, so they had to change how they were talking about it. That's going on now through April 5. They locked down Moscow over the weekend. I think even Moscow's mayor has said that the numbers being reported aren't accurate.
ETA: I happened to be looking at a major Russian business' website the other day and they had a list of "things to know" about the virus, and a good third of the items were straight-up propaganda. That it wasn't affecting Russia very much right now, and that people just had to hang in there until the weather got warmer. Stuff that Trump was saying a few weeks ago. Ask Florida how that's working out for them.
DeSantis issues an order that overrides any localities' efforts to prohibit religious services
Not that I want to defend DeSantis, but I feel like there are a LOT of governors, etc, steering away from this for constitutional reasons. Most things don't apply to religious groups because no one wants to touch that to avoid being sued.

I definitely blame all the governors who are doing this, because it's something that should be worth sticking your neck out for and getting sued. I think there are a lot of things here that make it likely they may not get sued and that such a lawsuit wouldn't be successful.
That said, it's my understanding that most of them aren't forbidding municipalities from going further than the state, and issuing their own orders.
the local Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas are being allowed to stay open but only to sell guns. That's reassuring....
In NJ they originally closed gun shops in our stay at home order, then someone sued so now they’re open again. I guess idiots think they can shoot the virus?

Washington has included church services in their ban. The proclamation states:
"All people in Washington State shall immediately cease participating in all public and private gatherings and multi-person activities for social, spiritual and recreational purposes, regardless of the number of people involved, except as specifically identified herein. Such activity includes, but is not limited to, community, civic, public, leisure, faith-based, or sporting events; parades; concerts; festivals; conventions; fundraisers; and similar activities. This prohibition also applies to planned wedding and funeral events. This prohibition shall remain in effect until midnight on April 6, 2020, unless extended beyond that date."
My guess is the hesitation from some governors had less to do with the Constitution and more to do with re-election. Otherwise why not at least try to enforce it.

Not defending gun nuts, but they're buying them because it kind of feels like we're heading into a dystopian future novel where you have to defend your property and food, honestly. I'm not going out and buying a gun and yes, these people probably are idiots, but I don't think the reasoning is as crazy as "shooting the virus".

I’ll admit, that hadn’t occurred to me. I’ve never seen a gun and definitely don’t understand owning one. But that reasoning never occurred to me.

Yeah, I've never held a gun or even been close to one, but if ever I was going to own one, it would be a shotgun and that would be the reason.
ETA: I don't actually think we're heading there, but I guess you never know.

I'm not going to lie and I'll accept the flames, but this is the first time I have ever considered a home security system, because I've considered them alarmist for anyone who hasn't experienced the trauma of being robbed. Paradoxically, I've always felt safe living in my large city (I have a lot more trouble sleeping when I'm visiting quieter places). But, the "what if..." scenarios are sure enough creeping through my head right now.
We have a security system through Simplisafe. Our old neighborhood when we were renting had a lot of break-ins and we actually had an incident at our house that prompted us to buy it (long story).
Anyway, we brought the system with us when we moved about an hour away, but we had an issue with one of the door sensors not lining up and our new neighborhood is pretty quiet so I hadn't been setting it. Since all this started, I made DH fix the door and I've been arming it every night.
