That celibate MSM (men who have sex with men) for 12 months can donate at all its relatively recent. Even my uncles who are in their 70s and have been together since college could not donate. It's pure bigotry leftover from the legitimate panic over HIV transmission in the 80s. I hope the 3 months leads to a future dropping of any automatic ban.
I can't remember if they ask everyone how many partners they've had in the last year. I do know they ask about sex work and iv drug use. You're also banned for 12 months if you've had a piercing or tattoo.
JARED KUSHNER: "The notion of the federal stockpile was it's supposed to be our stockpile. It's not supposed to be states stockpiles that they then use."
Anyone watch MASH?
"If I give YOU an incubator, then I only have two. Three is better than two."

It's only banned if it's done at an unlicensed facility that doesn't use sterile, single use instruments
Really? That's a change; thanks for correcting. I haven't gotten a piercing since I was 19 and was definitely told to wait a year then, and I rarely am eligible to donate for other reasons, so I admit I'm probably 10 years behind on what they ask now.

Yeah, but I'm not sure when it changed, awhile ago. They have a list of what states don't license but since I live in one that does it's never been a problem.
Soooo, he gets two and most of us will never be able to get one?
I can’t be mad about this. Him falling ill would be a national security event. If Obama were presiding over this (not that he was so stupid that this would have gotten so bad under him) I would expect routine testing. I hate Trump and hate that he gets tests when I so many who can’t despite being symptomatic, but I see why POTUS should be tested regularly, especially since he does have to see a lot of people.
Agreed. And, on TV, he doesn't practice social distancing (ie. The presser) so who knows what he does when the cameras are off.

I am having a largely friendly discussion about the relief package. My sister in law posted this, and I was wondering if anyone knows more, particularly with regard to healthcare workers? She’s a dem, so I’m surprised by this flex.

What is your question in regards to healthcare workers?

Not sure if my attachment came through, I’m on mobile, but she said that if a healthcare worker is laid off or has to take time off to quarantine, they are not eligible for the federal/stimulus unemployment assistance, just the standard unemployment.
Not defending gun nuts, but they're buying them because it kind of feels like we're heading into a dystopian future novel where you have to defend your property and food, honestly. I'm not going out and buying a gun and yes, these people probably are idiots, but I don't think the reasoning is as crazy as "shooting the virus".
I'm not going to lie and I'll accept the flames, but this is the first time I have ever considered a home security system, because I've considered them alarmist for anyone who hasn't experienced the trauma of being robbed. Paradoxically, I've always felt safe living in my large city (I have a lot more trouble sleeping when I'm visiting quieter places). But, the "what if..." scenarios are sure enough creeping through my head right now.
There’s a world of difference between an alarm system and a gun in terms of flame-worthiness. You can’t accidentally shoot someone with an alarm.

Ok got it, wasn’t sure if that was your question, sorry!
So someone posted about this on a message board for physicians about the special provision for healthcare workers, saying that our employer could make it so we didn’t qualify for the new exemptions. They didn’t post the entire thing and it just mentioned section 3105 and a few sentences of it.
So I had gone digging around and went back to look again and I certainly am not a lawyer but that was kind of my understanding, that healthcare providers can be exempt if the employer chooses to make them exempt. Here is the text copied from a website:
Q9. Are healthcare workers and first responders eligible to take E-FMLA leave? A9. There are two situations in which these particular workers may not be eligible for E-FMLA leave. The FFCRA says that the DOL can “issue regulations for good cause . . . to exclude certain health care providers and emergency responders.” In Section 3105, it states, “An employer of an employee who is a health care provider or an emergency responder may elect to exclude such employee from the application of the provisions in the amendments made [in] this Act.” Thus, employers may need to think through the definitions of “health care provider” and “emergency responder.”

I’m not in healthcare, but I think she might be confused? If you’re laid off you 100% qualify for unemployment. With the stimulous packet a person would get their states unemployment (which is typically a percentage of their typical pay PLUS $600/week from the relief package.
The package also covers people who are out for two weeks due to the Coronavirus if you personally have it or are taking care of someone who does. I will say the issue with that is since a lot of people are going untested I could see that money being hard to actually claim.
These two articles help lay it out, but scroll way down to get to the unemployment part.

She’s not arguing that they wouldn’t get the standard unemployment. She’s saying that the bill as written allows for some healthcare workers to be excluded from the federal portion. And it sounds like that may be the case.

Ohhh ya I see that above now. I hadn’t heard any of that before! That is crazy though why would they have that just for healthcare workers?!
I just don't understand why they don't just have individuals bag their own groceries - it's what we've been doing in Europe for ages. Only small bodegas bag and they don't care if you bring your own because then you fill it yourself.

Some R’s fear with this bill was that people who are unemployed but getting more from unemployment than they would have in their job will purposefully stay on unemployment for that purpose so I could see them exempting health care workers with that thinking since we need them in the workforce right now. It’s bullshit, but I could see that as their reasoning.
I don’t get how it’s legal that the employer gets to choose though. That could definitely lead to abuse of employees knowing they can’t survive if they lose their job.

I don’t know whether that’s true but it’s one of Lindsey Graham’s talking points so

I agree. By me it is not standard to have someone else do your bagging and I find it annoying if they do. I have a method and pack my bags the way I want them packed (and put them on the conveyer belt in that order).
My local grocery store is only allowing reusable bags if you are bagging them yourself, which is fine with me since that's the default anyway. I usually have a lot of stuff at the grocery store. If I waited for someone to ring them up and to bag them instead of bagging while the cashier rings them up it would take forever.

My local ShopRite in Essex County NJ said the same - you can use your own bags but you need to bag your own. Which I usually do anyway.
I asked for plastic bags on my last shopping trip (and I helped the cashier bag) and felt awful about it. But I’d just watched that long YouTube video with the guy in scrubs on how to safely bring home groceries - the one that has since been debunked by a few good scientists - and I was paranoid that my reusable bags would get infected somehow.
