We’ve talked a lot about mental load on here. As the main “purchaser” of groceries and household items, I feel like I am shouldering the entire burden of finding and buying all of the hard-to-get items right now. Seriously, the stress of trying to make sure we can get cat food and paper towels and hand soap is seriously ratcheting up, and it’s all falling in me.
OMG yes. It took forever for it to sink in for DH that doing a quick run to the supermarket to grab his keto ice cream is not a good idea right now, and that if he insists, he better damn well come back with all the other groceries needed that are written on the fridge.
Has anyone heard from the anti-vaxers? They've been surprisingly quiet recently.
I noticed they were hiding but then someone posted something pro-vaccine in a local FB group and then they came out of hiding. Basically, they are critical about how fast a covid-19 vaccine would be rolled out because that means it won't be safe. Also, the government made up covid-19 to have the excuse to force everyone to vaccinate. @@ Finally, they've just been silently laughing at the rest of us and how we are freaking out about homeschooling our kids because we treated them so unfairly back in September when they were "forced" to give up their jobs and homeschool their kids due to the new NY law removing religious exemptions from vaccines in order to attend school.@@
I may have to go into the house of someone that may have Corona virus. Yes, it's semi an emergency, this is not for a social call or anything like that. He's been rushed to the hospital and someone needs to get his dog. What should I do to protect myself for the few min I'll be in there. I'm going to put on gloves, but I don't have a mask or anything.
We have employees who will have to go into covid homes (not sure if we’ve actually had any yet though) and we’re advising respirators, coveralls, eye protection and leather or disposable cotton gloves. I don’t know if ALL that is necessary, but no employee was going to agree to go in without it. I’d wear sunglasses, gloves and a mask (or bandana); don’t touch anything (obviously) and change out of your clothes immediately.
Note, I have no training, just my own medical paranoia and research, but this is what I would do...
Wait at least 3 hours after he is gone (to let aerosols fall) wear gloves Put dog food in your own containers. Don’t bring his dog food bags into the house. If he uses canned food, soak cans in soapy water as soon as you get home toss all leashes and collars, dog jackets, etc in the wash as soon as you get home Give dog a bath
This seems reasonable. You could also write down the name of the food and just buy it at the store.
I'd also add that even if you don't have a mask, you can use a scarf or a bandana. They aren't really that effective, but considering you'll likely only be in the house for a few minutes, might help.
If giving the dog a bath is too difficult because the dog is too large or too unfamiliar with you, then try rubbing some baby wipes all over him while outside somewhere away from people. Do this with a scarf around your nose and mouth so you don't inhale the dander.
This makes me think that it's probably not a bad idea to have a go bag ready for my dogs in the worst case scenario that H and I both were hospitalized. Get a couple cheap back up leashes and a week's supply of food and treats in a sealed bag in a closet.
To the bolded: there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread from the skin or fur of pets. So don't worry if you don't wash the dog or wipe it down.

My H is the main cook in our house, and for YEARS I have tried unsuccessfully to get him to meal plan instead of running to the store three times a week. I hope this can be one lasting, positive change.
I put a bra on today and it feels VERY STRANGE. I feel so fancy what with my jeans and my bra. Might even put on some makeup before I make our weekly grocery run.

I had to go pick up mail at the office this morning and I didn't have time to get properly dressed. I normally have to dress to impress, so it feels weird that some of my coworkers have now seen me without makeup. (There were very few people there, I didn't get within 10 feet of anyone, and I sanitized the shit out of everything).

Yikes, this is a lot.
@darkangel do you have a dog? If so, could you just go over to the house with your dog's leash, open the door, and call to do the dog to come outside? I bet it will run right to you. Then bring it home and use your dog's stuff. I know suddenly switching food can cause upset tummy for some dogs but maybe you can find out what brand they use and just go buy some? I am not sure I'd want to go into the house and be touching a bunch of stuff/breathing the air in there if you can avoid it.
I had received an email from the humane society at one point saying that dogs cannot carry COVID but that the virus can live on their fur in a similar way that it might live on groceries, takeout containers, etc. So I'd try to wipe down the dog if possible.

Yeah, but it also seems like the info we have is constantly changing. You are probably right, and odds of a transfer seem slim especially if she gets the dog hours after the infected person was with the odds. But for me personally, the extra step for peace of mind is probably worth it.
FWIW, I am not petting other people's dogs and I'm not letting anyone pet mine!

I’m here. I’ve seen lots of guidance suggesting to keep the pets away from sick people if they are interacting with well family. And not to let people pet your dogs.
also, some research came out yesterday that cats can carry this corona, but not dogs. Not clear if they can spread it. (I.e., human -> cat, but cat->human is not known)
FWP post but I just frustrated I can't find any place to purchase hand weights. I purchased them on Amazon two weeks ago and today they decided to cancel my order. But now everywhere sold out of stock. Just need and 8 and a 10. I am taking a ton of virtual classes and only have a set of plates that are not made to do arm exercises like that. I have used can food as well but not heavy enough. Maybe it's the new toilet paper.
Gallon jugs filled with water will weigh about 8lbs.
8.34 lbs to be exact. My husband is a water engineer.

Well this blows. Now only 1 person per car. I have no vehicle. My landlady had been taking me to the store when she went.
But, here's where she's awesome and makes this bearable. She asked for a grocery list from me, offered to lend me her car (if I know how to drive automatic lol) and brought her first attempt at bread pudding to ask my American opinion. She lives on my floor, and she's the only person I have contact with, so by extension I guess I have contact with her husband and son, but they're all strictly isolating, too (it helps that police and army enforce plus they're not dicks)
They think critical cases have peaked and new cases will peak in a couple weeks. Crime in the capital city is down over 50%. So good news is on the horizon. This is currently the country with the highest count in se Asia
FWIW, I am not petting other people's dogs and I'm not letting anyone pet mine!
Our neighbors keep petting our dogs through our shared fence and it drives me batty but I haven't said anything to them yet. One of my dogs likes to lick, I'm not thrilled that she's licking their hands in addition to them petting her.
Total FWP - I need to figure out what color to paint my 3 season room that was destroyed by hail last year and being rebuilt (hopefully) soon. I usually go to the paint store and stare at the paint chips for a while to see what I like, then bring them home, look at them in the space, and then go back out and buy paint.
If you live by a Sherwin Williams, they are doing curbside pickup of paint chips. I looked through their paint app to see what I liked, then called them with the ones I wanted to see and they brought them out to my car to take. Then, they do the same with paint and supplies if you call and pay in advance--they put it all right into my trunk.
Well, I was just peeling a hard boiled egg and it just wouldn't peel right - you know what I mean? - and I had a breakdown. So that's Thursday I guess.
It's a nice day here, so I told DH I was going to go work on the patio. He's like "I'll come out and work there with you!" Then as soon as he got out here, he got a call and has been talking loudly ever since, limiting my peace and enjoyment lol. Also whenever he is on a call, he paces back and forth in the upstairs hallway and talks SO loud. I had to record a screencast for work and was like "Go in a room and sit there and shut the fucking door!"

Our book club is supposed to be getting together via video tonight, and I'm already trying to decide how presentable I need to make myself. By the time it happens, I'll likely have talked myself out of even wearing a bra.

My college sent out an annual giving email yesterday. To their credit, it they really tried to phrase it as "help out a student in these uncertain times" but it seemed so tone deaf to do the week unemployment skyrocketed.

I have had about a zillion meetings and delivered training several times, and I haven't put on a bra at all. The web camera only shows from shoulders up, so I don't know how anyone could know what is happening to my boobs or anything below.

I'm sorry. I totally get this. DH was all annoyed at things we didn't get from the grocery pickup and it felt like he was annoyed with me. DUDE. If there aren't eggs, I can't buy any.
This is my life too. DH was upset that the things we didn't get out of our last grocery delivery order were in his words his food. Dude, we didn't get meat cause the meat is sold out. We have plenty of shelf stable items and you aren't going to go hungry. He requested that I order from Harris Teeter instead of Peapod. I am sorry do you just want me to create extra delivery spots out of thin air?
I keep trying to tell him that we are lucky and have things like soap and toilet paper cause I made sure we had them before everyone started paying attention.
My mom just did a surprise porch drop-off of my favorite snack and a pack of paper towels she found. I started crying.
The organization I work for is basically tripling what we do to close revenue gaps due to COVID, and I am so exhausted and stressed that my whole body feels like it’s physically vibrating all the time. I am so bitter at seeing all the baking and cocktails and runs everyone is fitting in. I am happy for them, but jealous.

I had a video interview the other day and did my hair and makeup and put a suit on (well half of one lol) and I felt like a brand new person. I also apparently had forgotten how to put a bra on correctly and it took more than one try 🤦♀️
It’s been 20 years since I’ve lived alone, and I’ve forgotten that cooking for 1 is kinda of annoying. On the rare times I cooked for H (he was the main cook), he would eat 2-3 portions for dinner, then a lunch or 2, plus my dinner - and the meal is gone. Now I have days and days of leftovers. I’ve had the same meal for 3 days straight. And while I don’t want food waste, especially now. I cannot take another day of it.
Related, I found some tins of smoked oysters. They sound good, but what do I do with them?
It's snowing. The last couple of days I've been able to get outside for fresh air and sunshine which improved my mood. I just need to hang on for the next 2-3 days and it'll be nice outside again.

I ordered Dog Food and treats from Chewy, I ordered before I knew I would need it because shipping times are off.
I agree, ordering groceries is a crap shoot now- never know if they will have what I put in my cart. I don't want to hoard items and I am not, but I also want to have some back up so we don't run out. We are fortunate my sister lives a few blocks from us, so we coordinate out grocery orders from different stores.

Have you tried Facebook marketplace? You might be able to do a porch pickup and wipe them down.
