Michigan canceled school for the rest of the year as of today. I knew it was coming, but I didn’t expect to feel so emotional over the thought of no kindergarten graduation for DD. ☹️
When you say canceled, is it in person school or just done with the 2019-2020 school year. See ya 2020-2021?
I'm also in Michigan and school districts are expected to develop an online/at home work plan. This is part of an email that came from our district's superintendent
Online instruction will continue through the regularly scheduled last day of school in June.
Each school district will be required to develop a learning plan for the remainder of the year that must be submitted and approved by our Intermediate School District.
The State of Michigan is currently developing a generic learning plan template for districts to follow. Each school district’s plan will be slightly different to ensure they are appropriate, equitable and accessible for all students and families. Plans must also include how districts will manage and monitor student progress.

As far as I know, it’s in-person that is cancelled. My district previously said they won’t do distance learning outside of sending occasional links to enrichment options online. I’m not sure if that will change now that we know we aren’t going back.

Indiana schools are now closed for the rest of the year. It was previously May 1st. I'm not surprised at all but wow.
Our local public primary school donated its building to the local hospital for covid screening a week or so ago. As soon as I heard that I knew we weren't going back.
Why does my DD have to be touching me AT ALL times? For the love of God, please stop touching met!
My kids will tell me that they miss me if I go upstairs after dinner. Lol, that's just not possible!
Omg yes to both of these! DD1 cries at bedtime that she can’t go to sleep because she’s going to miss us so much. Go the fuck to sleep!!! By 9:30 PM mommy wants to be off duty. And if DD2 needs a hug because she’s hurt or upset about something, they start fighting over me. It’s exhausting.
What are your Daycare’s and before/after schools doing about payment?
We still paid this month even though we won’t be able to use BASP. It wasn’t voluntary. They just told us they were processing our direct deposit. Other programs in our district did not charge their families.
I am curious to know what is going on in other places

My kids before/after school program credited our accounts for the days we paid for already when school closed. Their policy is that accounts get credited for any day the school closes after the first 3 snow days, and we had already had more than that so they might have just been following that policy.

E-learning for a very spirited kindergartner is not easy. At all. Today was day 4 and I am just not sure how we're going to do this for four or eight more weeks. It doesn't help that she has two kindergarten teachers, who don't really work collaboratively. And seeing the lessons and work first hand now, makes it all the more clear that it's not challenging for my daughter. And she's the kind of kid that needs school work to be challenging and interesting or will refuse to do it. The math especially is very basic, concepts she already knows...now I really understand why she's been saying all year that school is boring. She's a very outside the box thinker too.
I had recently started looking into gifted testing but that will have to wait now. I already was looking into magnet programs, because it seemed that traditional public school isn't the best fit for her. But they're all lottery based, so who knows if that will work out. And I wish I could give her more challenging work to do at home now but our district is grading the e-learning, so she needs to do that work and submit it. And once she's done that, it's not really possible to add in more work because she's completely over school work at that point.

The daycare for my two year old is not charging us if we aren't sending them. They are remaining open though for essential employees who still need child care. We are not sending DS.

We have not been charged for weeks we haven’t used. C hasn’t been in a few weeks because they cut down to a very limited number of spots for people who didn’t have any other options. Starting tomorrow they are closed until May. Everyone’s slots are safe.

Ours is charging half-price each week, to hold our spot. They said they’re also going to have to raise their prices in September to meet costs, but if we keep DD enrolled and pay the half-price tuition we’ll be grandfathered into the current tuition rate.
They’re still open because they’ve gotten classified as a daycare for children of essential workers. We pulled DD out three weeks ago and I think a lot more families followed the week later.

Daycare did not invoice for April. Aftercare (which is through the school district) also did not invoice for April and refunded half of March.
I don't know what'll happen to the 2 unused weeks of payment (we pay monthly) for March. The director told me they wanted to try to cover COBRA for the laid off employees and I told her I'm happy to donate my tuition to that.

No need to pay for DD1’s after school center since schools are closed and DD2’s daycare shut down temporarily yesterday. No payment for April required. I assume no payments will be required until they reopen.

DD2's daycare isn't charging us. DD1's before/after care program isn't charging either, but we prepay for the month and they didn't refund unused days.

DD is a very active kindergartner who had just started the gifted program before schools switched to distance learning. Over Spring Break, I had her do Khan Academy math - she skipped to the tests at the end of kindergarten math, then breezed on through half of first grade math in a few days (not terribly surprising given she had been working ahead with her teacher). Anyway, you might try it for your daughter. If the assignments you're getting that are too easy don't count for a grade, just skip them. I also got some flash cards for addition, subtraction, and multiplication when I ordered crafting supplies from Joann's. My kids make a game out of it, so fun and educational.

DS’ preschool is closed. We are being charged and they laid off all the teachers.
DD’s after school program reimbursed us for the last half of March and stopped automatic payments for April unless you volunteered to continue paying so that they can pay the employees. We donated half of our normal payment. We figure we will have to use some of the money to entertain the kids when we are trying to work.

I wish this was the option we were given. I would have been happy to give half. But yes we are also dealing with extra expenses. And I worry about people who are less secure than us. Also my kids haven't been there since March 13.
Our schools were finally called off until April 30th. Our payment hasn't process yet. I am going to wait to see if the board makes a new decision before I complain. They gave us the option to identify if we were having a financial hardship and then they would work with us. I hate the idea of people having to do that.
I think our BASP is unnecessarily fancy. We moved into this school this year and it is a higher income district. So I have always been a little annoyed with how they handle things because I think they could run the program on a more reasonable budget. Thanks for the replies!

We didn't receive a credit/refund for the last two weeks of March, but we don't have to pay for April. Our daycare is subsidized by our company so I am okay with it since they are paying the teachers for the month of April despite being closed.

We are paying 75% to keep our spot. We are lucky that both of us are WFH through this.
