I finished The Glass Hotel, which I really enjoyed. I didn’t love it as much as I loved Station Eleven, but I like her writing style a lot. I should check out some of her older books. Now back to my middle grade series, Keeper of the Lost Cities. I’m on the last available book (I think there will be two more in the series) and it’s pretty good but could have been edited more tightly. Lots of long conversations that didn’t need to be nearly as long.
QOTW: I have a source for local honey! This time of year is challenging when we need honey because none of our farmer’s markets are open yet, and I usually end up with not-so-local sources. This one will come from my very own neighborhood, so I’m excited.
I’m listening to Finding Dorothy and enjoying it so far. I’m reading Summer Wives and enjoying it too. It’s my last physical library book, I’m going to have to go digital or pull from my own shelves when it’s done :-(
QOTW: my Christmas cactus is blooming, (never fully stopped, really). It’s been very prolific while we’ve been home. It’s pink blooms are wonderful!
I finished The Yellow House. I really liked it though it took me a bit to get through. My reading has been more distracted this week. I started and stopped The Downstairs Girl because it just wasn't grabbing me. I'm going to start The Ten Thousand Doors of January next. I think that's the book club choice this month, right?
QOTW: Honestly, this week has sucked. I have a lot to be grateful for but I'm in a crappy mood. The best I can come up with is that I'm currently cuddling with two out of three cats and having a Yasso chocolate peanut butter chip popsicle.
I finished The Mother-in-Law. I started The Ten Thousand Doors of January and am reading Boy: Tales of Childhood by Roald Dahl with the kids. The kids and I have both been enjoying this book.
QOTW: We discovered house party and the kids have been having virtual play times with their friends. We are working on having an adult house party soon.
I'm listening to Louise Penny's A Better Man, which is the last book in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. It's really been a great audiobook series and I'm sad I'm at the (current) end.
I'm re-reading Wideacre by Philipa Gregory. I wanted something that felt escapist.

I finally finished The Last Castle! Hooray! It was a fine read but it went on forever. Now I am reading Night Film by Marisha Pessl. It's an interesting concept, as the narrative also has visual inserts of news articles, emails, photos, etc. of the story. I like it so far even though I'm not a big mystery/thriller person. DH bought it for me after seeing booktubers review it favorably.
QOTW: Last Saturday we did a Zoom reading of a play and it was nice to see so many of my theatre girls (we read The Women)! I miss them.
I finished You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks. It was terrible. I’ve realized that these two women just want to write yuppie white woman “thrillers” and I’m over it.
QOTW: I got a small raise at work earlier than anticipated.
I've been on a Linda Howard (romantic suspense) kick recently. She's definitely an author who has changed with the times. Her early work is so out of touch and chauvinist. Her latest work is much more egalitarian and less "Me Tarzan, you Jane!" The suspense is good and the romance is pretty good.
I also decided to read all of Jane Austen's novels. I've started with Persuasion.
QOTW: Hmm. I feel like every decision I've been making has been related to COVID. I decided to start making my own challah for Shabbat on Fridays. It's so good but so labor intensive! However, it really feels good to do all this scratch cooking.
I haven’t finished a book this week; still plugging along on the Little House in the Prairie with my kids.
QOTW: I ran today, and despite living in this neighborhood for the better part of a decade and feeling like I know the streets like the back of my hand, I found a new to me path today that connects two areas. My mind was blown, haha.

I finished The Sinner by JR Ward and Frankly in Love by David Yoon. I'm currently reading Whisper Network by Chandler Baker.
QOTW: I've never watched super hero movies but with Disney+ we decided to start working our way through the Marvel movies and I'm actually enjoying them! We do about one a week depending on who chooses the movie that week.
