I have to show this off because I’m in love with our new front door. I didn’t love the timing of getting it installed—we ordered the custom door before the world went weird. But we had a bunch of wood rot and water damage that really needed to be taken care of. The crew was super awesome about keeping distance and cleaning up a lot. And really most of the work was happening outside.
I also apparently cashed in some good karma because there was a whoops at the millworks and they used solid mahogany for the door instead of the paint-grade wood we’d ordered. I offered to pay more but the guys were so cool about it. The doors probably would have cost almost double.
The glass is clear and has a glaze that makes it pretty reflective unless you’re standing right at it. We debated more privacy glass, but we live on a dead end street so just went clear. You can see our entry way and stairs when the lights are on inside, but that’s a less-trafficked area of the house anyway.
The double doors are slightly less wide than regular double doors would typically be. It’s not really noticeable to me. This was the way we could do double doors without having to smash up any masonry.
So beautiful!! We have huge old doors that are beat to fuck and have no windows (making our foyer pretty dark), but replacing them is unfortunately low on our priority list (we bought a Victorian fixer upper). May I ask how much the doors cost?

I’d say the actual cost of everything, assuming we paid the true price for the upgraded wood, would have been around 6k. We paid 4k. The folks who did the work were acquaintances from our old neighborhood, so even that was a bit of a discount. They also had to do some extra subfloor repairs than anticipated and didn’t charge extra. And I mean, the workmanship is damn near flawless. They were so good. I feel like I hit the new door lottery. Which only means the next project we do to our house will be plagued with issues, I’m sure!

Thanks all!
I also had to come back to this to say that apparently April 18 me predicted the future and we've since had a water leak involving our master bathroom shower which will likely involve ripping out the floor tile and some wall tile to replace the shower pan and the step/threshold into the shower.
