Obviously I don’t want anyone hurt and I don’t want collateral damage to small businesses, but I can’t give a single shit about property loss or damage to large corporations. This anger is justified and this explosion is exactly what we deserve.
I don't think anyone is putting business over George Floyd.
I can be sad over the murder of an innocent man. I can be sad about the destruction of my neighborhood. I can also understand and support the anger, frustration and emotion that has fueled these protests and riots.
I can be frustrated that the businesses they are destroying are the ones that will keep our area from being a food desert and will hurt many of those protesting. I can be frustrated that the businesses they are destroying are minority owned small businesses that may never recover.
I can be happy that many of these small businesses, even though have damage, are still supporting and grieving along with our city over the murder of George Floyd. I can be happy that my neighbors were out in full force cleaning up today, even while people were still looting stores around them.
It is complex. While I am waiting for an arrest, I know that won't be the answer to the problem. It is greater than that. I am seeing my city burn- literally, but I am also seeing it come together. So when we rebuild, I hope we are a more cohesive and better city.
A couple coworkers last night were talking about the protests, and one said that they heard target was being looted because they (one location? Not sure) refused to sell milk to protestors (presumably wanted for protestors who had been or would be sprayed with mace/pepper spray). Is that a completely false rumor or has anyone else heard something about that?

I saw the owner said they might not have know each other, it's a big nightclub so it's possible. I wonder if they had issues and the officer had a score to settle.

I don't know Minnesota well. My cousin was at the Hennepin Co Courthouse (presumably protesting?) is that near the precinct on fire at all? Is that an area with some of the bigger more violent protests?

That was downtown and peaceful.
This is a different area, some of the protestors from downtown marched to the 3rd I heard.
I'm very scared for the protesters right now. I know Twitter is not a good source of information but it is giving the most updates. I won't link because it's no better than unsubstantiated rumor at this point but I hope that when we wake up in the morning there are no additional injuries or innocent people killed.

Are you referring to the City of Minneapolis tweet re: cut gas lines at the precinct? I’m assuming the building was cleared of live ammunition earlier, but this is so scary for all of the people outside of the building if this is true and there is an explosion..
I also saw that people just started marching on the freeway as of ~midnight.
I’m in an eastern suburb and there are reports of looting at the Walgreens about a mile from my house. So far there have been no reports of any protesting in any residential areas, but it’s getting close to home.
I also have a friend who is in the National Guard who is currently at the Mpls Armory for possible riot control deployment. I’m so nervous for him.

Partially. I didn't mention them specifically because Twitter was the source. Rumored concerns behind tag because I haven't checked the news yet this morning to see if they had merit.
Other concerns- in addition to the NG being activated, they were authorized to use "lethal force" (even if not true/logical it could cause fear and panic if that is being retweeted). There was a blurry picture circulating of 6 "large" heavily armed, non-uniformed men who were heading towards the 3rd precinct after the fire started. Civil rights attorney Lee Merritt flew in last night and tweeted that on his way to his hotel he and other non-protesters were being pepper sprayed and police were exacerbating tensions instead of diffusing (I believe he posted prior to precinct fire but not 100% certain). Large fires at a liquor store and a Target. A verified twitter account affiliated with a news station was filming live and stated there were loud noises that sounded like gunfire and two people dropped to the ground seemingly injured. That Twitter account said they thought they were shot but replies from others said possible police grenade to disperse
Whether they ended up being true or not, there were retweeted many times so those on the ground may have been operating under additional stress/fear
ETA- I hope your friend is safe. And I am sorry about the fear, stress and sadness you must feel having this occurring at home.
Just came back to post. Per the CNN article, it added that the team arrested is heard offering to move (what police allege the team refused to do) and included a reporter who is a POC. A second reporter who is white was also questioned in the vicinity but was allowed to stay.
I saw that. I am starting to catch up on what happened last night. I was up until 1ish. I kept waiting for the NG to come to the 3rd, I'm not sure when they arrived.
I am also trying to see/understand what happened in St Paul- anyone there help fill in? I keep hearing about 170 fires there last night. Were they all on University?

I think so but no source. H will be driving to work through there shortly and I asked him to let me know where he sees smoke.
He just went on a walk in our neighborhood (NE) and saw a ton of police.
My friend who lives on U evacuated yesterday and is staying with relatives. Friends a few blocks off U felt safe to stay home and we're posting overnight.

That is a link to flight path of helicopters. Looks to be just Midway. I'm looking for more info to back that up.
Indeed brewing also issued a letter saying they would no longer use MPD because they’ve proven they can’t guarantee safety for all of indeed’s customers at their larger events. I hope other places follow

I thought possibly all three of them were POC or Latino but wasn't sure.
It is very possible the members of the production crew are POC as well. The earliest CNN article and tweet only identified Omar Jimenez as being one of the people arrested and stated reporter Josh Campbell was not, it did not name the cameraman or producer at first.

Here's a list that I saw yesterday, but I don't think it include everything damaged last night because I don't see the Cub in Sunray included and others.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
keyslover We were up until about 1am too. We were watching Kare 11 and I had video feeds from Unicorn Riot on my phone. Julie Nelson kept saying no officials from either city or state had issued any statements or returned their inquiries, then Melvin Carter called in. He and one of Kare 11 reporters said there was flash looting in the Grand Ave area of St. Paul. Not sure yet how extensive the damage is.
My friend in the National Guard was deployed out into the streets at around 5am today. His wife said that his unit is in a supervising/surveying role and that it looks like the federal government (aka "big Army" - her words) is going to get involved today. He told her that Lake Street looks like a "post apocalyptic hellscape."
The protests in Louisville last night over the shooting of Breonna Taylor are working--this morning, Mayor Greg Fischer ended the practice of "no-knock warrants," which led to Taylor's death. It's just one step, but protests DO push change.
