I’m a klutz. I decided to ride with H to get curbside pickup. While getting in his car I knocked a shovel off the garage wall slicing my toe. I had to go get a tetanus shot and xrays. They wanted to make sure there was no broken metal in my toe. I couldn’t have it sutured or glued because it happened last night. Now I’m on antibiotics ointment and an antibiotic wash. 🤦🏻♀️ Not how I wanted to spend my day:
I thought of a Father's Day present for my husband all on my own. It's a portable mosquito-repelling device (the thermacell) because they love him and we're going nowhere and likely spending a lot of time outside this summer. If you have one and it doesn't work, don't tell me. Ha.

My work sent an email that Windows did an update and it will take 20+ minutes to load and restart your comp. Apparently that's why Wed and Thurs were universally painfully slow. Hopefully mine updates over the weekend, it's too busy for dial up internet speed #fwp

I got 11 reports done this week. I’m totally patting myself on the back. I finally fixed all the programs that my windows update fucked up so that’s a relief.

I'm frustrated. I went for an Invisalign consult in March, the day before everything shut down. And this wasn't even for vanity reasons (otherwise I'd be fine with waiting longer), one of my teeth has shifted such that it's affecting my speech and seriously making me not want to talk as much because it's so annoying. I'm not really sure if anyone else notices but I definitely do. It sucks.
Anyway, orthodontist was wonderful, is confident my issue can be fixed, but back in March he wanted me to 1) schedule an appointment for a cleaning first (which my next appt. was supposed to be June 11th but he wanted me to try and get in earlier so we could get moving) and then 2) have him take off my permanent retainer on the bottom prior to the cleaning. That way, he could take off the retainer and then I could get a really good cleaning before the Invisalign would go on. Then, everything shut down so I knew this would be on hold for awhile, but I was hopeful I could still get in for my June 11th cleaning and then start the process.
Well, the orthodontist is back open now, but my dentist is still not doing any cleanings. I was really thinking I'd be able to get into my June appt. but it appears that's not the case, so now this is on hold for longer. I'm also just an anxious person by nature and knowing that my cleaning is due and I can't get one is making me worried about cavities, etc. because I had my first one this year. I'm also worried about my 3.5 year old's teeth because he's due for an appointment too and was supposed to go at the same time as me.
Stupid problem, I know, but I was anxious to get rolling on getting this fixed. I put it off for 6 months or so because I was afraid and/or was hoping it would magically get better, and it hasn't. I'm just over Covid putting off stuff at this point.
I'm pricing out an Alaskan cruise for next summer and it seems more expensive than I would have thought. It's been 8 years since we went to Alaska, so I'm sure prices have increased and we have a 3rd passenger now. Kids, so expensive!
Heard. I'm waiting for a 5-figure refund on ours that got canceled (June 2020 sailing). I'm still not sure what the hell I'm doing about the flights--waiting a bit on that. The waiting is killing me slowly.

I just went down a 90s TV show rabbit hole. Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, and Ghostwriter were some of my faves growing up. I found a youtube video of what appeared to be the first ever episode of Ghostwriter and guess who was in it?! Samuel L. Jackson. lol

Can you let the orthodontist take off the perm retainer? You don’t need the cleaning to start the Invisalign, I can’t imagine there is enough plaque to change the Invisalign molds. (I did Invisalign a couple of years ago, I don’t think I aligned it with a cleaning)

Do you have a link?
My H is a mosquito magnet, too. I rarely get bitten, but he can't seem to step outside for 2 minutes without regretting it. They haven't been bad here yet, but I imagine later this summer it's going to be harder to entice him to sit on the deck.

omg where are you watching Hey Dude!?
They used to be free with Amazon Prime streaming! Not sure about now, though.

About 400 of my fellow contractors got laid off today. Well, some terminated, some furloughed, and a small small portion of us reassigned to new positions. It was a rough day and there's a lot of drinking happening across our group chats.

Link, please?
All looking for thermacell Dicks Sporting Goods or any hunting:fishing store carries them. We got the patio one but they have individual ones that clamp onto pockets. My brother hunted moose a few summers back in NW Canada and he was required to get one as part of his gear.

I got my H a magnetic wrist strap for projects. He can put drill bit, screw bits, and screws on it and not reach around so much. That and fun tshirts. Lol

I freaking loved Ghostwriter! It was my Sunday scaries cure as a kid.
Quick story - last year, for their first year of state testing, my daughter's 3rd grade teacher had parents write motivating notes for the kids everyday for 2 weeks. I quickly ran out of ideas so one day I wrote out the chorus to Lenni’s song “You Gotta Believe.” Later I showed her the music video on YouTube and never felt older in my life!
I feel like I haven't been on here in FOREVER! This working full time from home, teaching a 1st grader and keeping her entertained plus regular house stuff has felt like a lot.
But on the plus side we've done so much work on our yards & landscaping since the weather has (finally) warmed up is encouraging, our home is looking amazing. We've lived here just over a year & the previous owners didn't do much beyond mowing and piling rocks everywhere. We have moved so much rock it's unreal, this is the 3rd house we've lived in and all 3 have used a ton of rock in landscaping & it's totally not my style.

Did you see that Netflix is making a new Babysitters Club series? Starts in July I think.

I had no idea! Yay! I wonder if I can find the old movie somewhere. Hmmm...

You gave me the perfect idea for an anniversary gift for our BFF couple. Their anniversary is next Friday and I usually struggle with a gift idea but this will be perfect for their back deck where we hang out the majority of the time.

Yeah, my orthodontist will take off the retainer anytime but wants me to get the cleaning right after, which I can’t get, and then get scanned and start Invisalign. This retainer has been on since 1998 so I really would like to have a good cleaning after it’s off lol, so that I have a clean slate for Invisalign, so to speak. My teeth, for whatever reason, seem to be super prone to plaque buildup, so I feel safer doing it that way- surprisingly though I’ve only had 1 cavity. I don’t know. I hate teeth.

Have you considered going to a different dentist?
Yeah, so after emailing further with my orthodontist it sounds like no dentists in PA are permitted to do cleanings right now, just urgent procedures. They have been super strict about this (which I get, I know it’s a high risk profession)... The county my dentist is in is moving to the “green phase” Friday so hopefully some restrictions may be loosened and cleanings will be allowed (that’s what I’ve seen online anyway.)
It’s just really unfortunate, isn’t postponing all of this routine care going to be really bad for some people’s teeth!?
Unit for Difficult Patients is an excellent documentary about a mental health facility in France (on Prime). I was worried it would be... not what it was. But, I couldn't stop watching, it was just so weirdly sweet and uplifting! They did a fantastic job portraying the patients as human- disordered, often with ugly acts in the past, but, beautifully human. There is one mention of a pregnancy loss (through violence) that could be hard to watch for some people- but, it was otherwise pretty mild on the violence (though, respectful and honest).
And it made me incredibly sad to think about the fat load of nothing available to so many of our mentally ill population, and how ridiculous that is even on a callous, capitalistic view.
On another note- we were able to REFI down to a 15yr loan from our living room (digital signatures), with no appraisal (I was super worried about having an appraiser in the house). It was the easiest mortgage transaction I've ever had! I'm also ridiculously happy that they service almost all of their own loans (you'd probably understand if you were ever serviced by a crappy servicer). I love our CU!
