You need to go to an countertop supplier warehouse locally and really take a look at the slabs available if you are planning on doing solid surface. We intended to get a white quartz with grey marbling, but instead wound up with this bonkers Everest White granite slab:
It’s not a look that is super in right now, but both DH and I love it. It has white, cream, and grey undertones, with black, brown and rose gold mica flecks. It’s real stone so there has been no maintenance or concerns with heat. I really like that it’s not just plain white and great because I feel like it has more flexibility for the future, if we wind up repainting downstairs and get away from the whole pale grey look.
I would never have chosen this stone in a million years if I hadn’t seen the slab in person. You may get some really different ideas if you go and see what is available locally. I could barely even find pictures of this granite online so it’s not a popular option.
Hi circa1978 I feel you in just wanting the kitchen done - I am exactly at that point right now! But don’t make any rash decisions- it will be done soon and I want you to love it!
I looked at a bunch of marble-look quartz and really liked several of them but ultimately went with Misterio quartz. They just looked best with the white of our shaker cabinets and other colors and features in our kitchen. We ordered them Monday and they should come in next week some time so I can’t really report back yet but I sorta agonized over the decision. I’m sure non-crazy people pick a lot quicker but I had the samples all over my kitchen in all sorts of different lighting.
I ultimately liked the shade of white that is the background of the Misterio and also that the “grey” marble veining was a little taupe-y which went well with other colors we had vs true gray veining which looked a little stark in our space.
Good luck to you. FWIW we have white shaker and original wood floors.
