Greg Glassman/Crossfit HQ Racism

I am glad to see so many athletes and gyms speaking out against him. My former gym (my H is still a member) announced they are de-affiliating this morning and changing their name from Centerville Crossfit to Centerville Community Fitness.

I think Crossfit as a brand is over and I think that might be for the best. I'm curious to see if Rogue or Reebok or someone else will try to create some sort of alternative branding for gyms to claim. I definitely think that one of the bigger comps will fill the vacuum left by the Games.

For all of the talk he does about improving health outcomes, he should be the first to acknowledge that race and socioeconomic status are more impactful on overall health than exercise. He is a fatphobic bigot and I will side eye the fuck out of anyone who continues to support him after this.

He is an asshole and is the reason I resisted stepping into a CrossFit gym for so long. I'm disgusted and sad. We have an emergency coach meeting at our gym tonight and I'm sick about it, because I so badly want us to de-affiliate but my owners are in deep - the guy is long-time seminar staff for L1, L2, CF Kids, and his wife works full-time HQ. She reports directly to Nicole Carroll, who just resigned. For them, it's not just the $3,000 savings. De-affiliating would likely mean the loss of her job, which is their most stable income, and man, that is a lot to swallow for them on the heels of losing $$ during the shutdowns (which they completely supported). De-affiliating also likely means the end of my coaching job, but I'm willing to sacrifice that to stand up for what's right. They're also an interracial couple, so I can't imagine what this feels like for them.

And I know the owner of Rocket, I've met her at a few events and she is an amazing person with an incredible community. I can't believe he said those things to her, except I can totally believe it, because I've always considered him to be a pompous ass.

The fitness market is way too competitive for this type of bullshit. I hope he gets dragged like Drew Brees. These guys have a huge audience and they know damn well how influential they are, there is no tolerance for being lukewarm and doing the fucking least. I hope it hits these guys financially because that seems to be the only thing that gets them to wake up.

Lots of local gyms including the one I used to train at are de-affiliating and I love it.

I noticed yesterday that the gym I always pass on my way to the grocery had deaffiliated...made me wonder if that was due to this or something else. Either way, holy hell GG is disgusting.

We are almost certainly deaffiliating the box I co-own - to be totally honest, we already didn't feel like we were getting much value from our $3000 affiliate fee, so it's not that hard a choice. We haven't actually DONE it yet, in part to see if CF had any decent response (which we didn't expect, but there was no need to rush ourselves). Apparently Castro is going to be the new CEO (instagram.com/p/CBOe6sCAJX-/), which is basically saying that Glassman's son will be taking over, soooo yeah. Also, changing the CEO but having Glassman still own the business is pointless. We'll see what tomorrow's official announcement says, but this is probably the end for us.

Also, if you haven't seen all the stuff regarding Jessica Griffith/Travis Williams and Chandler Smith, that was some majorly racist language and incredibly shitty behavior.

No final decision as of last night, but I'm not sure how the Castro BS will affect that. They were definitely waiting to see if GG stepped down, but I don't think this is necessarily a better direction. The bottom line is that they can't take care of their family without her income, and that's where their benefits come from, too, so this is a much harder decision than "just de-affiliating." I feel sick for them. I know they want to do the right thing, and they are very pro-BLM and always have been. I keep thinking about if it was my employer - my husband is self-employed so I'm 50% of our HH income plus all of our retirement and benefits, and as much as I would want to, I wouldn't be able to quit my job day one. I would have to plan an exit to keep my family floating.

Castro is just as bad as Glassman so it's just more of the same. I started CF in 2009, HQ has ALWAYS been problematic and the reason I never did the Open once they started to charge you to do it because I wasn't giving any money directly to these assholes. I also believe Glassman still owns everything so stepping down as CEO does nothing
