Gorgeous! Can’t wait to see it as it goes. I would suggest a bigger stove if you can swing the space. I think it goes a long way in giving a high-end kitchen look.
Thanks! The stove is 36. Would you do 48? It isn’t so big so I thought 36 was good compromise but I could do bigger.
I would. I see nice 36” in production builders now, so I think having a 42”+ really sets it apart. It was the first thing I noticed. But you got a really nice one so I’m sure it will be great either way!
rikki it's a beautiful house. Can't wait to see it come together. We remodeled our kitchen about 8 years ago and I really enjoyed the process, so here are some questions that came to mind looking at the pictures. This is ridiculously long so I apologize in advance! 1. Can the actual oven be where the speed oven is? Moving that and then putting the refrigerator where the oven was would likely improve your work flow quite a bit.
I think the rest of these are based off of you not being able to move the location of the range: 2. Can you put the dishwasher on the other side of the sink? That would enable you to put a large stack of drawers right next to the oven for all your pots and pans. 3. It looks like your appliance garage is 12" deep. Can you get one that is 18" deep? It would give you little extra room. 4. The refrigerator cabinet is deeper than your cleaning cabinet, could you relocate the cleaning cabinet and get a cabinet next to the fridge that is the same depth as the refrigerator to take advantage of that extra space? 5. My island is very similar to yours with the garbage cabinet on the left. I split the difference in side and have 2 banks of 4 drawers (two drawers are the normal height of the top drawers and then the two bottom drawers are deeper. It really is lovely not having to open a cabinet and then have a pull out. Yours looks more balanced with the garbage cabinet, but consider making the door on the right side of the island drawers instead. 6. How much space do you have from the back side of your island to the wall? If there is enough space have you considered shallow cabinets there?
I agree with everyone else who said that drawers are much better than doored cabinets so I would consider replacing a couple (including the bottom door in the middle of your master bathroom). Do you have a pantry elsewhere in the house? A lot of my comments are tailored to eek out a little more space and that may not be necessary if you have the space elsewhere. If you don't, consider taking a copy of the layout and really going through and figuring out where everything will go and what type and size of cabinet would work best for those types of items. potential items to consider: dishes, cups, pots and pans, spices/cooking oil, measuring cups and spoons, silverware, spatulas/spoons/etc, mixing bowls, serving bowls, baking pans (sheet pans work great in the cabinet over the refrigerator and I have a couple cake pans and cupcake pans up there, but there are bread pans, bundt cake pans, spring pans etc that don't fit up there are need to be housed in another cabinet), kitchen aid mixer, blender, food processor, crock pot, whatever random small appliances your have will go, pyrex or similar baking dishes, bread, potatoes, onions, etc.
As mentioned, I enjoy looking at these! I'm sorry if this was too much. It's going to be great when it's done!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful ideas! I will respond in order. LOL.
1. I do not think that there is anywhere else that the stove can go. The wall where the speed oven is isn't actually a wall -- it is just a counter (kind of like a second island, but flush to the side wall) dividing the kitchen and dining room. I was planning to use to the top of it as sort of a buffet area when hosting people.
2. Great idea to move the dishwasher and have drawers next to the stove. I don't see why we couldn't try to do that.
3. I can ask the cabinet maker to push out the appliance garage. Again, I do not know why not. Great idea so I can have a bit more room.
4. As far as I know, the cleaning cabinet and the fridge are supposed to be the same depth. The fridge is supposed to be built in and everything is supposed to be the same depth, at least that is what I assumed and asked for. Will double check with them.
5. Maybe the garbage pull out could even go between 2 sets of drawers on each side. I prefer the symmetry.
6. I don't think we have space for shallow cabinets, unfortunately.
7. The bottom door in the master bath is actually a pull out laundry basket, but I am starting to wonder how much I would really use that. Maybe drawers there are better. There is a full closet in the master bath as well for things like towels, etc. There isn't an additional pantry per se, but there is a large walk in closet in the room right off of the kitchen that I am thinking can kind of be a hybrid for some rarely used pots and pans, extra paper towel, etc. I am not really a great cook, so I didn't really think of all of those kitchen items, even though despite not using them I do own most of them.
Thanks again! Love these ideas. There are a bunch of things I would do differently if we were building from scratch, but are stuck with some of the existing sizes. We actually had to fight the city, hire a lawyer, etc. for almost a year to be able to get the permits for this because the side addition is 2 feet too close to the neighbor's property line, even though he didn't care at all and has a double lot where his house is at least 25 feet from ours. I keep thinking that we could have had a whole new house done in that time!
rikki, Gorgeous house and so excited to see how it turns out! I hope its more fun than headache for you guys.
One thing I would maybe change a bit is the kitchen trash. We have a pull out to the left of our sink. If I had to turn around to throw trash out and potentially drip nasty stuff ( that don't go down the disposal) onto the floor, I think I would be annoyed that the trash is in a pull out behind me.

See, we have the pull out garbage in the island and I love it. The island is our main prep space so it's nice to be able to just pull it out and wipe the crumbs into the garbage. But we also can't throw food into our trash so we throw everything from the sink right into the food waste bin we keep below the sink.

how is it having compost below a sink? I keep mine on the counter which isn’t ideal. But I love the accessibility and we empty it daily. Plus I worry a drawer or cabinet might get funky. But maybe not.

We just have a small green 2.5 gallon plastic compost bin. Pull it out onto the counter when using it, but keep it under the sink when not. We empty ours daily as well. The bin definitely gets funky - even with the compostable liner - but the cabinet itself doesn't.
So exciting! Your house is beautiful and I look forward to following along! We're starting to plan a major renovation that will start in January so I'll be watching yours for ideas!
Things are coming along well. The additions are up and most of the framing is done. AC ductwork begins this coming week. The only thing we were not going to do was the roof, but that is out. We found out that on top of the original clay tile roof there were also four additional layers of asphalt roof. Our builder is shocked that the house never collapsed. The roofer said he had never seen anything like it. Other than that no surprises.
I need to stop spending money. I’m buying all the things.
