DD gymnastics gym started practice for team girls only this month. The first two weeks was twice a week for an hour each day and it was lots of conditioning. Now that school is out they are going 3 days a week for 2 hours. DD wasn't sore the first two weeks but oh my this week has been brutal. She is super sore and whiny about it and so very tired. The girls and parents had to sign this huge list of rules. They don't wear a mask while practicing but have to wear it in and are encouraged to wear it out. No spectators, lots of hand washing and sanitizing and DD says the gym smells like bleach. Rec classes are supposed to start back in July when we would enter phase 3 but with the rapid growth of new cases and the halt on opening new phases it will be interesting if that happens or not.
DD1 has gone back to swim team practice. There will be no summer competitive season, so this is just conditioning to keep them in shape going into to (hopefully) a fall season. Practicing 4 days a week for an hour and a half. (Down from 3 hours/5days a week).
DD2 has not gone back to gymnastics. I did NOT like how her gym handled the shut down and refuse to send her back there. She was totally fine with just enjoying the summer so we are not in a rush to find a new place. I did come across a local gym holding try outs at the end of the month, we might check them out. I am also looking into diving team options for her.
DD3 has also not gone back to the gym - but she is just 4 so she couldn't care less. I did register her for soccer in the fall.
2&3 are doing swim lessons in my back yard 2 days a week for 30 minutes each.

We aren’t doing recreation swim or lessons this summer. It was to be DD1’s first year doing recreational team so it is no big loss. She doesn’t know what she is missing.
She, H and I are doing C25K. She told me she wants to be the fastest at morning mile (the before school running club) next year. I hope they still have it.
DD2 started club soccer yesterday. Only 10 kids, drills no scrimmages, cones 6 ft apart - one color for kids to stay while running drills, and the other on the sidelines to place bags and water. The coaches had to wear masks, players did not. It was outside and I stayed away from everyone, walking laps while she practiced. I didn’t wear a mask.
I thought it was awesome to get her used to paying attention and listening to the coaches. It’s been so long since she’s had to listen to in-person instruction.
DD1 is supposed to start softball in a couple of weeks, but I don’t see how. We have no teams, and the mayor announced that no organized sports will be played on any town fields this summer. So unless someone has a huge backyard and is willing to host all the teams, I don’t understand how this will work.
We just finished dance. Mostly it was in zoom but we did 1 in person practice and a 10 minute filming of their dance in costume (just their class) for the recital.
We opted out of baseball. For me, the dugout was a concern. For DH the fact that we were missing a week and it was only a 5 week season, I guess he didn’t see the point to do it for 4 weeks.
So the only sports we have is soccer in the fall. I would have liked to do swim lessons but pools are not open for lessons yet.
DS’s fencing club will reopen soon with some kind of limitations. DD is signed up for field hockey but that’s not till fall.
Apparently, the high school teams are meeting for “secret practices” in weight rooms and stuff. This has been going on for a while, weeks apparently. I am very disappointed to hear that.
campermom, I've noticed a couple groups using the turf field near my office. I think it is more a group of kids getting together and running football/soccer drills or just using the track to run. Its hard to tell because I knew the university athletes have been using the field too since the university is still closed. Nothing looks like coaches and organized practice more groups of people just playing together.
madringal, my friends daughter gets to start swimming next week. 30 minutes 4 times a week and the pool is over 30 minutes a week.
Here we’ve had nine high schools have Covid cases as a result of summer sports practices resuming. It appears it was due to indoor stuff like weight training and fancy indoor football practice facilities. This includes the high school my kids would go to if they went to public school.

I assume you meant 30 minutes away, lol. Our team normally swims at the middle school - but all school buildings are still closed. So twice a week they swim at a local country club at the crack of dawn before they open. The other 2 days, they swim at a pool an hour away - in a different time zone (ahead, of course, lol!). Thankfully, we have a car pool set up with 4 other families so it makes it not terrible, but its a haul for the kids to swim for just an hour and a half!
I just received the opening procedures for DD1's softball league. Face coverings required for all players, coaches, and spectators. Staggered game starts (and since no one looks at schedules or reads emails, the odds of anyone showing up on time were slim to none). Coaches responsible for disinfecting all balls and equipment. Coaches not allowed to pick their teams.
The whole reason I volunteered to coach was to keep certain kids off my team. Last season I couldn't coach for a number of reasons, and I made one request - place DD1 with her friend, because she didn't want to end up with some kids that had bullied her. After 3 seasons of coaching, I took one year off, and they ignored my request. DD1 ended up on a team with a kid that tortured her before she left public school. The kid picked up where she left off with DD, and it was a difficult season.
So... I just emailed them and said DD1 isn't playing, and I'm not coaching, and see you next season!!!
