I need some new shorts. Quarantine weight gain is a real thing and my shorts from last summer do not fit at all. I was going to buy some more in the same style I always wear but next size up. Then I realized that they're not a very forgiving cut/fabric, so don't really work well with weight fluctuations. Before I build a collection of varying sizes of all the same thing, figured I would check here for suggestions!
Usually I wear ANA 5" chino shorts from JCPenney. Nothing fancy, but they look ok with a t-shirt or with a casual blouse.
Any suggestions for comfy shorts that aren't TOO short?
I found similar shorts at Gap Outlet online. I feel like they always have sales. There is a tiny bit of stretch in the fabric.
I also hate shorts and tend to wear a lot of skorts. I love the performance skorts from Vineyard Vines but I wait and buy them over the winter on clearance.
I don’t own shorts They’re just not comfortable or flattering on my body type (my thighs being the largest part of my body). I wear either tight black workout capris or skirts and dresses.
I don't have a particular brand, usually I have some luck at Kohls with shorts that are not too short, but somewhat stylish. I have a couple of Khaki and gray dressier sorts from there.
k3am, Not sure what style you're looking for exactly, but in the summer my kids live in Sketchers Guzman Steps. I used to buy Natives when they went on clearance, but the girls like the fabric backing on the Sketchers better than all plastic.
Stealing your thread.. any recommendations for kids slip on shoes that I can easily throw in the washer?
She has a pair of Rothys, but they run hot.
We buy the Stride Rite washable sneaker and have for years. They’re very washable and hold up. Idk if they have slip one but they have a couple Mary Janes styles.
Talk to me about these skorts. I have one that that I basically only wear when we go to an amusement park so it can get wet on rides and dry more easily. I don't love it for general style. It feels kind of frumpy.
librarychica, she likes the kind that look like slip on vans, basically. And she likes to rock no socks... which is why they need to be washable, because nasty stink. The Rothy's are great (pricey, but great) except for being so hot.
I got some 7 for all mankind jean shorts recently, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well they fit and the bit of stretch they have. The inseam is probably about 3 inches, but I'm super short, so it is about right. I would have never thought to buy this brand, but I got them on thread up for a deal.
My own shopping question, where do you find sport bras? Most of mine are pre kids and are for someone a bit less endowed. I am a 34 DD-DDD, which means when I try to just squish things in place, I can't breathe as well as I would like.

They hold up well, feel more like golf skorts than some of the others I've tried. They're great for a cookout when it's like 90 degrees and humid. I've also developed some chub rub as of late, and these help a lot.
I think Athleta might have something similar? But Vineyard Vines does have good sales and they're on Rakuten.

I get sports bras at Victoria Secret. I like that they hook because IMHO there are few things grosser than wrestling off a wet sports bra over your head.
phdmomma my favorite sports bras (and athletic clothes in general) are from the Nordstrom activewear brand Zella. But I’m not particularly well-endowed, so I don’t know how they work for larger cup sizes.
phdmomma, I bought a sports bra from Athleta from their exhale line and I love it. I have issues with the racer back styles because they bother my neck and shoulders.
twinmomma, I have a skort from Athleta that I like to wear on the weekends. I also have a couple pair from Calia that are an athletic material but look dressier. They are so comfortable!
phdmomma, I like the Victoria Secrets sports bars. I think there is only 1 design that comes in 34DDD but it gives the girls support without being squished. I also like having the hooks in the back to make it easier to get off.
Anyone having any luck on trying things on or returning clothing items? All in store shopping here won't let you try on or return clothing/shoes which is making it extremely hard to shop.
I ended up just going to buy some of the same shorts I always get. They were cheap. And I could try them on in the store! I was surprised and a little weirded out, but went with it so I didn't have to do returns.
phdmomma I have sports bras from a store called Title Nine. Bought them in person like 5yrs ago and they have held up amazingly. I have underwire and non-underwire, depending on activity. I’m a 36H.
