Novak Djokovic tests positive after organizing a tournament where almost no safety protocols were implemented. Several players and their families have tested positive. So irresponsible.
I hope AZ follows. I’m worried about my family and friends there.
TX, too. We have a new mask mandate finally so I hope that helps but I think it's too little too late. Too many people here are ignoring doctors and carrying on like it's a normal summer. So hospitals are nearing capacity and they are admitting adults to the children's hospital in the Houston medical center. Things here are just great.
I know someone who is currently at a cattle show like an hour away from Dallas. I wasn't surprised that they didn't cancel it but I'm horrified that she went (she lives in IL).

So work is providing masks when people go back and we're required to wear the ones they provide. Apparently they are lined in terry cloth. I feel like that's just going to get damp as you exhale and be really unpleasant.

Thanks for sharing. I like the visuals here. And, makes me want to go back to my office never. Interesting too, how this was all happening with other viruses prior to COVID. Its not shocking looking back at when everyone in the office is sick at the same time.

I’ve heard of all three cases but it was helpful seeing them in one document with the diagrams. We have staff returning on a limited basis next week (their jobs cannot be done long-term from home 100% of the time) and I’m glad that everything we are doing falls under the good practices mentioned. They will also have to wear masks so I’m hoping adding that requirement makes spread very minimal or hopefully nonexistent.

Its honestly shocking to me that these governors think that they will just be able to stop the infection by suggesting masks now that the cat is already out of the bag. Don't they think that Italy and NYC would have just mandated masks if that was all it took? I'm worried about MI, we had good news that we flattened the curve and now people think that COVID is over and have stopped distancing, stopped wearing masks, etc. I only have one friend who i really trust as far as being around because her family is actually following guidelines. Everyone else, including my family, really don't care.
I don't think they (CDC, WHO, etc.) realized the efficacy of masks when Italy and NYC were spiking out of control. I don't think asymptomatic transmission was believed to be as big of a deal as it now seems to be. It's obviously not ALL it takes, but I've seen multiple sources showing transmission rates with no masks, uninfected person with a mask, infected person with a mask, both with masks and it's clear that masking is a HUGE part of slowing this down. It will absolutely help.

Montgomery County is still planning to allow 4th of July festivities to go forward, including a festival in New Caney featuring the Eli Young band. It’s a huge county and so many of the people there go back and forth to Houston/Harris County. This is where some state leadership would be helpful, though I’m not surprised at the lack of it.

Yikes! Has Montgomery County talked about a mask mandate at all? I am super surprised Galveston county implemented one! We live right on the edge of Harris county so it's easy to go back and forth between Harris and Montgomery. So of course people in my neighborhood are like well I'll shop in another county now. The two really need to be on the same page.
I am so freaking mad at Abbott. He's bungled the whole damn thing. I don't actually fault him for opening the economy some when he did because at that time numbers were looking good. Not letting local leadership mandate masks was a gigantic mistake though and I think he knows it now that he let them know about the "loophole."
This is basically just a Covid related vent about my stupid cousin who thinks she's invincible, but is really just the most selfish person on the planet.
My cousin, who just turned 28 last week, had symptoms of Covid but purposely didn't get tested because she didn't want it to be positive and make it so she couldn't celebrate her own birthday. In a bar full of people. OMG. (ETA: She's in Phoenix, AZ)
It gets worse. She is a nurse. Who works in a long term care facility. (Though I think she's currently laid off, but STILL.)
Her mom was visiting her over the weekend when she had symptoms and didn't get tested. MY mom picked my aunt up from the airport when she returned back home. @@@@ Two days later my mom spent the afternoon helping my pregnant sister put together her nursery furniture in close quarters in the baby's bedroom. /@@@@@
My cousin tested positive for Covid two days ago, by the way, so here's hoping my aunt didn't bring it back with her.

Fascinating! My workplace has been doing most of these measures (alternating work schedules to reduce the number of people in the building, reducing shared workspaces, mandatory mask wear, no gatherings/meetings) and we haven’t had anyone test positive. Naturally, we have also had a much lower incidence of all communicable diseases like colds and flu that can impact our work schedule, so it’s been a big win overall.

I wish my health center did a study during this whole time. We've been open the whole time because we serve an underserved population who has a lot of needs and doesn't always have a phone or internet. We obviously changed a lot and did a lot of telemedicine, but we've still been going to work.
The way our buildings are set up we do sit in the same room as other doctors for periods of time. We've obviously all been wearing masks since early March.
So far there hasn't been spread among employees. I sat in my office 1 day with another coworker for a few hours while we both called our patients and did paperwork. She was about 5 feet away and we were both masked. She called me that night to let me know that she lost her sense of taste and smell so presumed she was covid positive. I never developed symptoms and I did test myself 2 weeks later before I traveled out of town and was negative.
There has been 2 other asymptomatic people test positive. Otherwise the rest of us have been spending many hours together with masks on, taking care of covid patients in our urgent care area and it hasn't spread through our healthcare workers.
If only there were some way to know who gets no/mild symptoms vs who doesn't. Overall most people do well, but right now it's still best to do the mitigation strategies while opening things up that are necessary for our physical and mental well-being and survival.

People are stupid.
Wow! I would be furious. Has anyone said anything to her?
Is it really? Ugh. A friend if mine is headed down to AZ to get her folks and bring them back up.
I'm worried about heading to FL in September. There's a "must go" that I feel I "must go" but I'm terrified of being in a group of FL residents. Guest list is being cut to about 50 but I still think that's about 49 too many for my comfort. But it's an I-can't-skip-if-at-all-possible. I'm actually thinking of buying an RV and driving so I'm not in a plane or in hotel rooms. I can swing by Vegas and pick up my mom and bring her along. But that means H likely won't be able to go unless he can work from a table while I'm driving...and the way I drive and the way he back-seats me, that's not going to be at all a possibility. lol. (And no, we won't be buying an RV just for this. We've been considering it for some time and we really need and want to get out and see more of the country. Glamping is so much better for my old body than sleeping on the hard ground. Although I *did* buy a tent last week. ;P
It’s only safer for them by circumstances, not in general.
Have you thought about renting an RV? That could be fun!!
I have! But my DH is as leery of doing that as he is of getting on a plane renting a hotel room right now.

WA state has instituted a requirement for all individuals over the age of 5 to wear a mask starting 26/6. Likely this rule will be in effect until there is a vaccine per statement today. Yakima county has run out of hospital beds and overflow is causing problems at other hospitals.

I'm glad Inslee is finally doing this as I've been shocked about the number of people who are not wearing masks when I've been out. I've also been surprised at the last of social distancing I've been seeing. Come on people!! Though I'm also frustrated as we had guidelines to meet to get from phase to phase and I'm not actually sure that we've met the guidelines but have continued to move phases, likely because of economic impact, but this isn't going to help stop the spread and our #s are going up again. I'm just so frustrated!!! And starting to feel like the crazy one!

King County had been meeting 4 of the 5 metrics which is why I think we were allowed to move to phase 2. But now we're only meeting 2 of the 5. If this continues I wonder if he'll move is back to phase 1.
I don't see many people wearing masks outdoors (but have seen more recently), but in all my trips to the stores I've only seen a handful without them.

Illinois is supposed to be masks for all. I went to pick up a pizza tonight and I was literally the only person in there wearing a mask. None of the servers, three bartenders, or cooks had masks on that I could see. I was so disgusted, I dropped the pizza off at my moms and left because I wouldn't eat it. If I was the one paying I would have just not paid left it there.

I would report this place to the county. My county has a helpline to call and report business that aren’t following rules (for both customers and employees).

My cousin (50 year old) has been at the beaches in Florida every weekend, shopping, going to restaurants, and work. Went into the hospital last night and is diagnosed with COVID.
When I think of all of the people she had contact with in the last two weeks .... ahhh! How can they possibly do contact tracing when it is so many people?

I filed a complaint with my county Health Dept. They were even dumb enough to post pics on their FB showing servers without masks. I'll see if we have a hotline though too because I don't know if the health dept was the right place to file or not.

Obviously it’s not easy but contact tracing to consider it an exposure it is if you’ve been in an indoor space with someone less than a few feet away for more than 10 minutes. So yes that would probably include the restaurants if you were sitting indoors and then coworkers which I assume they’d have the names of those people. I hope your cousin has a speedy recovery!

Is anyone else seeing the OSHA stuff going around FB about how masks are useless and like trying to prevent mosquitos with a chain link fence? I know it's bunk, but I'd like to have a reputable source to combat this line of thinking. I'll Google, but if anyone has anything they know of on hand, I'd love it.

pumpkin, InBetweenDays, I go for a walk every day and usually end up walking around the track at the high school nearest me (Greenlake / Ravenna ish). Every day, there is a full football practice going on. No coach, but the boys are passing, tackling, and running drills. All with no masks. There are two different groups of obviously-organized little kids' soccer camps, probably 6-7 kids each. No masks for kids or coaches. Last week, there were several days where UW football players were also practicing on the field. Full tackle, running drills, contact. No masks. I can walk around the outside of the track and easily keep my distance, but I am absolutely flabbergasted that these daily practices continue.
That said, in my local Safeway and Fred Meyer, every person I've seen is masked. Granted, I only go once per week, but I feel like people in the stores are taking this way more seriously than they were even a month ago.
259 cases in Tulsa county today. Probably too early to be from the rally, but it certainly points to an environment where transmission at the rally or related travel, dining, etc is likely.
