Where in WA? I’m in Yakima County and I admit we are hunkering and hiding. Our numbers are incredibly concerning...as is the mindset of a lot of people here. 😩🤦🏼♀️
Near Wenatchee. There was an article written about her a couple years ago that refers to her farm as being just outside town. It also refers to it being in the shadow of the town's 10 story cross, so maybe that says something....
Some parents in a town in IL decided to hold a "prom" for their kids and their friends. They had 40 some people in their house for this party and so far half of them have tested positive for Covid. Local news keeps trying to reach the people who held it but they refuse to answer any questions about why they thought this was a good idea.
Our (IL) numbers have gone down for the past 5 weeks. I guess it makes people feel like it's not a problem anymore, so the assholes who think it's a joke get emboldened.
I think so. And the people I know who have thought everyone was overreacting since the start are like "see, we lived, you're fine. Get back to normal..."
I was kinda of horrified by all the people eating inside restaurants yesterday. So many places looked packed.
Someone just told me on FB that wearing a mask means that I will compromise my own health and immunity. Ugh. He used to be a reasonable person 10 years ago.
I told my dad that I went on a hike with a friend and we wore masks the whole time. He starts telling me about how all of his retired doctor friends say not to do that because it can compromise your heart and lungs from CO2 and not getting enough oxygen during physical activity. Dear Lord. I'm shocked his retirement community isn't a hotbed.

By this logic wouldn’t all medical professionals have expired long, long ago. So sick of MAGAT science.

And the fact that he was told this by retired DOCTORS is even more baffling. Like, what do you think your still-employed colleagues are doing when they go to work?
The boutique gym owners in my city formed a group and are petitioning to remove the mask mandate for gyms and increase gym capacity from 25% to 50%. They are citing WHO that people should not work out in a mask. I feel for them business-wise, but that is a horrible idea.

Our local gyms are just flat out open. Nobody is enforcing the closure. I’m hoping this is dealt with swiftly because otherwise I fear they will set the example for all other businesses to say “well, why not?” and open as well, or for anybody to defy any form of mandate.
ETA: and people wonder why our little county has made national news for our Covid numbers. 🙄😩
Desantis and Abbott press conferences just now make me just want to puke. They are both such awful human beings. Abbott had to thank Pence and the admin for such a great job.

Los Angeles and several other counties have been ordered to close bars again by Newsom. Honestly, from the crowds I’ve seen pouring out of some of the local beach bars, they should never have opened. Oddly not on the bar closure list is Orange County. My friends down there have said their bars are also quite full.

How were LA bars even allowed to reopen in the first place? It’s like an entirely different world from SF. You can’t even get a haircut in SF!
(And I ALSO don’t understand why two Bay Area counties were on the “suggested” closure list but not Orange County, which has twice as many cases per capita as either of them. I guess Newsom is fighting one fight at a time there, and masks are up first.)
Yeah our guess is Newsom knows they won’t comply so he’s working on masks first in the OC?
I honestly don’t understand how bars reopened. We know enough about the disease to know a bit about how it spreads and a bar seems to be a perfect example - no mask, close together people, taking loud to be heard.
That bar in East Lansing, MI that is linked to 83 COVID cases? Here it is on the night it opened (the night of the outbreak). I hope the state pulls their liquor license.
I work at MSU so this has been heavily on my mind. I run a facility that has stayed open this entire time, and while I have worked at home some, I can't full-time. More importantly, my staff can't really WFH at all. I am so pissed and frustrated and I am REALLY not looking forward to students coming back for fall semester, because they clearly won't behave. I wish Whitmer would shut down bars again. Even fully grown adults won't behave in bars.
