Bowman!!! Still waiting on the 17th, but I’m happy to see a middle school teacher in politics!
I'm really excited! We went to a rally on Saturday and met him. I was planning on voting for him anyway, but after meeting him and hearing him speak I'm really impressed.
Maybe I will lose enough weight by his inauguration to actually fit into the campaign t-shirt he gave me.
I have a question about mail in voting and I know you all are smart and will educate me. Is there a difference between “mail-in” and absentee voting? We have always had the option to vote absentee (mail in our ballot). I don’t understand the outrage that I’m seeing in my state over mail-in voting because, unless it’s different somehow, we have had this option forever.
In Michigan, people are using the term interchangably. Voting by mail in our state is voting by absentee ballot and you can request an absentee ballot for any reason.
I do view these differently though. In Colorado, vote by mail is automatic. If you are a registered voter, you receive a ballot for your party affiliation (or the general ballot) (if you’re independent you receive both D and R and are instructed to return only one or neither will count). I don’t have to do anything to vote by mail here, aside from register to vote.
Because there’s no request for a ballot, turnout is higher because the ballot is already in your home a couple weeks before it’s due.
It’s been so long since I had to go stand in line to vote. With some of the fuckery going on in various states, I struggle to understand why we wouldn’t just push to make this the norm across the country. It saves people time and ensures better turnout. Win-win.

Because higher turnout favors the Democrats so it’s a loss for the Republicans.

Yeah, but if you’re not looking at it from a political stance, but simply as people have the right to vote and this method gets more people engaged in the democratic process, then it’s wildly successful. Obviously republicans don’t give a fuck as they do everything they can to disenfranchise voters, no matter how heinous or obvious.

But but but... they're the party of "constitutional rights"!
For a national push: senators Wyden and Klobuchar have introduced a bill that would secure funding for states to enact vote by mail. Wyden has introduced a bill for national vote by mail every year for, I want to say, two decades. It’s out there, but with republican opposition, it’s hard to get traction.
Really, it’s a good time to call your senators and representatives, they need to know there’s support out there and people are playing attention.

Hmph, the guy who called for donations to the Senate Pac this morning said they got a call that McGrath won Kentucky. From what I'm seeing, Booker is in the lead. I'd rather it be McGrath so I hope there are still more ballots to be counted. But Booker isn't painful except for the Sanders/AOC/Progressive Movement support.

Louisville and Lexington aren’t officially releasing ANY of their totals until Tuesday, so until then, all KY counts are meaningless. And any totals now from anywhere don’t include all mail-in votes, so take them with a grain of salt, too.
The thing to watch are the spreads in the other counties. If Booker wins a significant number of them and keeps it relatively close in those races, and has a big margin in Lex and Lou, he can win it. If she wins either of those places, it’s almost sure that she will win.

I hope it’s Booker.
I actually hope it’s Booker too. I really think he’s the kind of candidate people can get excited about. If he can win this primary I think he has a good shot against McConnell.

Why do you hope it’s McGrath? From what I’ve read and I’m obviously far from knowledgable on Kentucky politics, I feel like most people are most excited about booker.

Booker will actually get people excited. With McGrath, it will be more about voting against McConnell rather than for her, which I will gladly do and could still work, but she would be a worthless Senator. Booker could be KY’s AOC as far as being present both here and in Washington. He’s the real deal.

I'm fine with either. It seems folks are more excited for Booker, so I'm fine with him. I just had hopes for McGrath because she's a female veteran (who started her run early and should have had momentum, but that didn't happen to the extent it should have.) The Bernie/AOC support of Booker made me want McGrath just a little bit more. lol. But since I'm not in Kentucky, I just want anyone that will kick McConnell to the curb, hard (which is probably more likely to be Booker since McGrath didn't garner the excitement she really should have.)
