Anyone use a smart watch to help track activity? I always was critical of these and recently my wife bought me one. I've paired it with a couple apps I already used. It's help me become stricter on diet and excursive and already helped me shed a few pounds. Opinions?

I have a Garmin Vivoactive 3. I've been a long time Garmin user. Its now 2 years old and I've worn it daily. I have been pretty happy with it. my only complaint is lately it doesn't seem to keep a battery charge as long as when it was new. I used to be able to go 5 days without charging, but now its about every other day. It tracks steps, daily calories, HR. I pair it with a chest strap HR monitor when I workout. Chest strap HR monitors are a little more accurate than the optical sensors that the watches come with.

I have the Samsung 2 smart watch. Dc rainmaker has an independent review of it and its GPS and hrm perform as well as many other models out there.
I have grown to like the activity trackers on it but honestly the thing I really like about it is that its a model that has its own phone line. You can take it out exercising on trails, roads etc with no other phone.
I've seen enough situations and even been in a few myself where I needed a phone but HATE lugging mine with me..the extra $10 line is worth it. I think its a necessary safety option.

That's another reason I like my Apple Watch cellular version. If my phone battery dies or something, I have a back up way to call for help.
