Which thread can I vent about COVID family/friends related stuff?
I added chat since there doesn't seem to be much news this week. I could use a place to vent too since I can't do it on FB.
I'm tired of venting on FB because it falls on deaf ears.
A large chunk of my soccer friends are just going out and doin' their thing. When one of us calls them out, they get defensive and say they're following guidelines and Colorado is open so they can do what they want. The manager at the pub tested positive and many of them were in contact with her. What did they do? Go get tested that morning and went out for drinks together that evening. At this point, I don't know if I can stay friends with people who are so dumb and selfish.

I feel this way about my coworkers. We're all ICU nurses. They went to AZ for a bachelorette party last week. They came back to work right away. I'm so incredibly angry. Then one went in to get tested and ta da was positive. Then her best friend (who was also on the trip) came to work the next day and was all "would it be bad if my best friend tested positive and I've lost my sense of taste and I just don't get tested?" Thankfully we sent her home.

At what point is this medical malpractice of sorts (or some other legal or employment-terminating offense)? WTF.

Um, what??? That makes me so angry. I get that healthcare providers are people too, but especially if they are working with a very medically fragile population, there is some obligation to live your life in a way that it won't kill your patients...
my employer previously required a 2 week quarantine if traveling but that was tossed several weeks ago. so one of our intensivists went to Vegas last week after being on service for 3 weeks straight. it appears that no one here is taking it seriously. and I am so angered by it because we cared for covid patients...granted we never experienced what other hard hit areas did, but they saw how awful it was first hand and STILL made these decisions.

My DD's BF moved away last year. Her family decided it would be a great time to visit this upcoming holiday weekend. They will be seeing multiple groups of friends and staying at various homes. One neighborhood party we are invited to (will go, will wear a mask and will keep our distance). Anyway, her mother asked us if her DD could stay over night for 2 nights so our kids could spend time together. Talked it over with DH, he was ready to take the risk, but I'm not. Needless to say, DD is really bummed and so I had to come up with a compromise which I suggested they do a bomb fire with smores and projecting a movie in our driveway. I sent that to the mom and we have yet to hear back. It really just pissed me off that I was put in that position.
It was the same with my brother who lives in a different state, and is now visiting friends in WI and wanted to visit. I told him no, because there's nothing to do that's safe. And it pisses me off that he suggested this knowing that it would be after spending a few days in a major city, going to the bars, eating at restaurants, etc. To me is so careless and selfish. Thankfully, I called our mom today and asked if he visited and she said no.

I've met some of these folks. I know you like them and have been friends with them for years; good friends with some. What a disappointment.
Saudade- I'm not even sure what to say about your coworkers. Everything that I'm thinking of starts and ends with some version of fuck.
Mine is people at the kitchen. There was one person who was running around right before the SIP; working out at the gym, going out to eat, etc. because she wasn't scared. Well- she tests positive but doesn't mention it on FB. Guessing she doesn't mention it to the kitchen management because no notice came out that someone had tested positive nor was it closed for cleaning. Thank goodness I didn't see her during that time. Another truck posted photos/video of a wedding that they did on Saturday. No masks, no social distancing for the guests. They were all out there dancing their fool heads off. There are more pics of truck people all going out to a bar the next day. My anxiety is through the roof thinking about working with these fools.

I'm so glad to be here and know there are like minded people out there. I don't seem to have many IRL anymore. In the past week we got a wedding invitation and graduation open house (middle of nowhere ND). It sounds like we are the only family not going to the wedding. The open house is at a park outdoors, but it caused a fight between H and me because he feels obligated to go since its his niece. He will probably go by himself, but that still stresses me out. Plus, always being the bad guy gets really old!
As a recap, we raised 25 Ranger chickens. They take 9-11 weeks to get to butcher size and are good foragers and generally act like real chickens. I was willing to exchange the extra time and a slightly smaller size for a breed I felt good about raising. Everyone claims the commercial breed (Cornish Cross) are lazy and gross and it doesn't appeal to me.
However, we ended up with WAY too small of birds by 11 weeks but it was just time for them to go based on my own availability and cost of food. I suspect our "problems" stem from a soy free food, high activity level and a few critical weeks where I think we under fed.
I'm not going to do a per pound breakdown because it's too depressing, but we spent roughly $70 on the chicks, $175 on food, $96 on butchering and $60 on pet sitting because they went out of town and they were annoyingly high maintenance.
I'm bummed because these birds really appealed to me. Alas, I want to try the Cornish breed in the fall and see how it goes. We would have to butcher ourselves, so H is on the fence.
Ultimately though I have a lot of satisfaction in raising my own food. And I'm also very happy a local butcher had insanely cheap prices on chicken so we still have a well stocked freezer.

Wow. I work in academia and we are starting to transition back to in-office work. Classes are still online and students are still not allowed to enter my building (or any others, I believe.) BUT. We have to report all travel and our campus health clinic then determines if we can return to in-office or need to work from home for two weeks. I just canโt believe healthcare is not following those same rules.

I'm SO TIRED of feeling like the bad guy. I just want everyone to be safe! I don't want any of my friends to die, or their loved ones! Someone on twitter said they felt like the whole world was just gaslighting them and I get it. Frustrating does not begin to describe how I feel.
winecat- it sucks that you can't control your own work environment, either I know you've struggled with Trumpers in the same kitchen but this is so much worse.

Not sure where you're thinking about going but if they have food, they should be open.
His speech was primarily geared to promoting people to wear masks, because this Red area's hospitals are overfilling and people are being sent to other hospitals in the Western (more Blue) part of the state. Eastern WA has always skewed more Red than the Western half, and they tend to need a lot more of the state's $$$ revenue and are a drain on the state overall.
I hate how masks have become so politicized, and that you can't fix stupid, apparently. The way the people in the Tri Cities are behaving is pretty much going to keep them in Phase 1 until who knows when.

The brewery just down the street serves food and has a lovely patio and garden, so maybe we can still go....

This is so disheartening. Their people are dying and they don't give a flying fuck.

๐ Wrong thread?
No, actually.
I'd been posting about it in the Covid chat threads. It was something we had previously talked about but the grocery hoarding is what sealed the deal. A few people had expressed interest in knowing how it went so here it is
Gov Whitmer is moving two regions in Michigan back to Stage 3 (Lansing area) and Stage 2 (west michigan).
I'm glad she is sticking to her guns on this and not caving to the pressure to keep things open.
Can I ask where you saw this? All Iโm seeing is that lower Michigan isnโt moving to stage 5 and that she is considering moving some places back (which I hope she does - I live in the Lansing area).
