I guess the hot item of the summer is deck boxes. We have had a hard time finding one that is affordable and available for purchase. We ended up buying one from a website we hadn't heard of, and it was shipping from China. Our shipment was delivered yesterday - 5 face masks. No deck box. I googled the name of the company and apparently this is a scam and that's what everyone is receiving.
I'm pissed because we wanted the box, but I'm also laughing that China is trolling us in this way. Of all things to send - face masks. That seems like a big f-you.
I obviously paid with a CC so I am fairly certain we'll get our money back. I put in a dispute.
THIS HAPPENED TO ME. I ordered a sewing machine and after some follow up with the seller and the post office, determined a small package (2 masks described on the packaging as "underwear") was what they sent to me instead and I had the same thought, why is China trolling with their masks! I've gone 'round and 'round with the person via e-mail since end of May; today I said fuck it and put in a dispute with PayPal.
My youngest came down with a fever Sunday night. She's 8, almost 9 YO. We realized she has never been sick before, not even a fever. She said her throat really hurt; said it felt that she was swallowing wood with splinters. (her words.) Made an appt at the pedi, it was her first ever "sick appt" which I just think is crazy. Even the pedi commented on it; and sure enough she has strep throat! So I'm sorry she's sick, but glad it's a quick fix! My oldest has had strep many many times, always in the summer.
I hope she feels better soon! Yeah my mom says I got sick 2 times growing up when had to go to the doctor. I don’t really remember ever going to the doctor.
And even in med school and residency when people said we’d def get sick on certain rotations, especially peds, I never got sick. I think I got a cold 2-3 times over my 7 years of being in med school and residency. I’ve only ever taken antibiotics a few times for UTIs. Yay for the immune system!

OMG really? That's nuts! I wonder if it was the same company or if this is happening with a lot of different ones?
They are sneaky with sending you something so there is tracking and proof of delivery. We opened the masks and were so confused until I realized we actually WERE expecting something from China and cross referenced the tracking information.
I hope you get your money back. I did send the company an email but I am doubtful we'll hear anything back from them.
You are at the beach with your husband, child, and father. You are handling the kid in the waves while husband boogie boards. You step on a shell, which cuts the bottom of your foot, you are bleeding.
You hobble up to the chairs and your dad proceeds to give you water to wash the cut and you realize something is in your foot. Call your mom who is back at house to get you.
Husband and child never leave the water, despite knowing your foot was cut.
And thankfully I was able to get the shell out and currently have ointment on it and a bandaid.
I guess you’ve learned who loves you the most! LOL
Seriously, I’d be annoyed they didn’t ask if I was okay but probably glad the kid was distracted so you could clean it out. So maybe around a 3? 2? Depends on how bad the cut was.
We put an offer in on a house yesterday, and it got accepted!! Suburban living, here we come! 🎉
Congratulations on the house! The suburbs are ... quite different. LOL
I grew up in Manhattan. My husband is absolutely shocked at how excited I am for a yard, and space. It’s on the train line into the city, so we can still get our city fix when it bounces back. 🙂
My new team apparently missed the announcement that I was on a conference call and then proceeded to talk crap about my “unrealistic expectations” and say that I “must not understand how [the software] works due to the questions asked about [topic]” Umm what? I’m literally asking you to follow the corporate wide procedures that you’ve been neglecting to follow and I understand the system well which is why I can tell you the exact items that you’re neglecting to do. If you’d take the literal 30 seconds to fill out the information that we’re required to fill out, you wouldn’t have to deal with 3 people asking you the same question because we’d all magically have the information that we needed!

Ace Hardware has some. I just remember because I helped my mom find one.

The night we moved into our house we were unpacking late into the night. It was so exciting for me to run the vacuum cleaner at 11pm. It was the first time in my life there was someone downstairs, upstairs or on the other side of the wall to disturb!!
Oh man, I still remember when my mom found my stash of candy wrappers behind the couch in the den. I was grounded for so long. Lol
I also found some Annie’s gummy wrappers, cheese it wrappers and a granola bar wrapper. COME ON KIDS!
I told them no dessert for a week since they’re only 4yo and 6yo 🤷🏻♀️
My Aunt is a health nut to the extreme and when they would come to the States to visit it was so funny catching the rest of the family cheating. Caught my Uncle parked at the end of our driveway inhaling a box of donuts. We had a bowl of candy out on the coffee table and caught my Cousin filling both pant pockets with the entire contents of that bowl. His genius didn't last long. His Mom found it all at bath time, I think he was spilling as he took off his pants. I mean, kid you have to eat it before someone catches you!
My day started out great. I was up early, went grocery shopping, came home did a quick batch cook, did a load of laundry and even took a test for school - all before noon.
Then bam, all productivity went out the window. Since noon I have taken not 1 but 2 naps, screwed around on the web and ate dinner.
Its 6:30 and I see nothing but channel surfing on my evening agenda.

That’s too funny! I’m not sure why they did it since we aren’t super restrictive ...

I just compared a picture side by side of me in a sports bra and leggings from New Year’s Eve to one of today. 20.6 lbs down but holy shit. I do not want to go back there.
I’m anxiously awaiting Covid test results before I drive up to Missouri to visit my grandma. Last time I got results in under 24 hours but there were way more people in line when I went to get tested last week.
I'm awaiting mine too. I have what I'm pretty sure is just a plain old summer cold but I visited a senior housing place (masked of course) on Thursday and started feeling sick Thursday night into Friday and COMPLETELY freaked out that I may have infected the old folks. I'm already feeling better and I never did have a fever but I panicked and called the Dr and they had me go in (well, drive up).
In other news I'm moving into a really nice senior housing place in a couple of months!

My DH was 10 or 11 the first time he needed an antibiotic. I feel like his experience set him up to view our kids, (who get sick, while not often, but they do) thru a weird lens. He worries they take medicine too much. I'm like Dude, the last time any of them took an antibiotic was 2 years ago, we're good!

I was 4, maybe 5. Clearly her fury made an impression. lol
I was sneaking candy in the afternoon when my dad was sleeping (he worked nights), so she was really mad that I was taking advantage of basically being alone and lying/sneaking.
Now I'm wondering if I'm remembering that part wrong though because it doesn't seem like her to leave me alone with my dad when he was sleeping. I'll have to ask her about it this weekend.
Someone I haven't talked to in years apparently started selling a MLM and messaged me about hosting a party. As soon as I saw the MLM part I tuned out and ignored the message. She just messaged me again to follow up. WTF?? Even if we were still friends I wouldn't want to do this. And we're not friends (IRL) anymore.
Holy crap. During the time it took me to type out this post she sent me ANOTHER message begging me to "host" this "party." I responded I'm not interested. I hope she stops before I have to block her.

My brother had his first IV at 64!
That doesn't seem so weird. The only reason I've had an IV was when I was having babies. Were it not for that, I feel like I could probably go a lifetime without needing an IV.
Or do you mean antibiotic? Because if so, that's a crazy amazing amount of time!

No just a regular IV. That seems really old to me but I've probably had 20 in my life and I'm 3 years younger. That said I'm going to ask him about oral antibiotics bc I honestly don't ever remember him being sick (although he's being treated for cancer now and has likely caught up with my IV numbers 😥 )
My work is accepting accommodation requests based on CDC work factors for when we go back next week. I am high risk due to my BMI. Im so conflicted regarding asking to continue to work from home. I’ve been working from home since March. I don’t want to go back. But I feel guilty for asking for the accommodation. I’m not sure what I should do.
Ask for the accommodation. That’s what you do.
Yes, please do. I have one staff who asked for accommodation and I didn't get (nor did I want/need) any details. He said what he needed and I was happy to accommodate.
Thank you for this. I need to hear it. I don’t know why I feel so conflicted. I guess I feel guilty because I know that others will continue to work in the office when they also meet the accommodations. I know that isn’t my problem. But reading the CDC that I’m at a higher risk to get severely ill due to my BMI is also scary.
I don’t even know if you have to state why. A friend of mine works for a company and the company initially made them request to work from home based on one of 3 things, and made them check the box. I think it was high risk, childcare needs and I don’t remember the 3rd.
The company got a LOT of negative feedback and the next month when the paperwork came out it just said yes or no. Take care of yourself. If you’ve been doing your job from home all this time they should have no issues.
The form states that a “health professional has stated I need to quarantine during Covid” which is different language than the body of the email stating, “if you are risk, as defined by the CDC, then you can ask for an accommodation.”

Ugh. A health professional has said we ALL need to quarantine, really! I wonder if doctors will be more than happy to help with this or feel ambivalent? It’s still a very new virus and we just don’t know. I’m sorry.
Right? A doctor hasn’t told me specifically “stay home” but one risk factor is BMI, and I can read a chart. That adds to my anxiety about asking for the accommodation -having to go to the doctor and talk about my weight. Ugh!

I have been writing letters left and right. I’ve always been that way. I mean if someone asks me to fill out the actual fmla or disability paperwork I’m not going to lie and make up anything. But for COVID and sick notes I just write "recommend for patient to work from home" or "patient will be out sick for 5 days." I have no reason to make peoples lives more difficult than they already are!
The paperwork that employers require from doctors offices is often so ridiculous and makes me angry on a weekly basis.

I would ask your HR department for more details. I know our usual accommodation form requires some kind of documentation from a medical provider, but we are not enforcing that with COVID. I guess if there was some kind of issue with approving the accommodation we MIGHT need more documentation (like, if someone's job can't be done remotely or they are asking for some kind of arrangement that would cause other major hardship for us) but mostly we're taking people at their word since the list of risk factors is well published and as you said, people can plainly see if they are on the list.
