I think I want to start listening to podcasts while I prep dinner and stuff. I'm an old soul, so I have no idea how these work. Where do I go to listen to them? (I don't have an apple account, I think that matters?). And what should I listen to? I need recs!
I listen to all of these on a random rotation. I listen on my iphone with the podcasts app but I am not tech savvy and I actually hate this platform but have been too lazy to try anything else.
The Office Ladies Unruffled (Janet Lansbury) Best of Both Worlds The Double Shift The Mom Hour The Happiness Lab Cold (this was a limited series that I finished)
I love Esther Perel. She focuses on relationships. Turns out, a friend of hers does a similar podcast that focuses on motherhood. I love it as the stories are all different but the soul of the sessions is about addressing the parts of motherhood that no one discusses.

I prefer Overcast to listen to podcasts. I’ve also used Stitcher. Can’t stand the Apple podcast app.
As for what podcasts to listen to, what interests you? Here are some of my favorites: Science: -Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry -Ologies -Star Talk -Infinite Monkey Cage -Oh No Ross and Carrie -Science Rules with Bill Nye -This Podcast Will Kill You -Sawbones -The Weirdest Thing I Learned This Week -Epidemic with Dr. Celine Gounder
Comedy -How Did This Get Made -Andrea Savage: A Grown Up Woman #Buttholes -Endless Honeymoon
Educational: -History Chicks -Stuff You Should Know -Stuff You Missed in History Class -Hound Tall with Moshe Kasher
Politics: -Stay Tuned with Preet -Lovett or Leave It -Pod Save America
In addition to some others already posted, a recent favorite has been Revisionist History. I also listen to the Dateline podcast a lot which is just audio versions of the show.
If you have a smart speaker you can probably ask it "play the Name Goes Here Podcast" (the word "podcast" is important).
The only one I listen to regularly is All Fantasy Everything. All The President's Lawyers and The Weeds maybe half the time? And some of the Crooked Media podcasts once in a while (Pod Save the World, Pod Save the People, Lovett or Leave It, Hysteria, and Pod Save America, roughly in that order).
msniq listens to Punch Up the Jam, which is fun if you're a music nerd.

I have tried and abandoned countless podcasts due to boredom with them.
A couple I do like are Women At Work, The Dream (but only season 1), and The New Abnormal, which is relatively new and political themed.
A limited series true crime one that is good is called Project 7. I enjoy true crime, but most seem like someone is reading a Dateline NBC script out loud, and I get bored.
I listen to a ton of podcasts. I just use Apple podcasts on my iPhone.
Mom/parenting/lifestyle podcasts: - The Mom Hour - The Lazy Genius - What Fresh Hell - Didn't I Just Feed You (about cooking/feeding your family) - Edit Your Life - Best of Both Worlds - Motherhood Sessions - Forever35 *sometimes
Political - Pod Save America - Hysteria
Misc - The West Wing Weekly - We Couldn't Help But Wonder - discusses all episodes of Sex and the City, lol - Armchair Expert w/ Dax Shephard - Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend - The Dream (season 1) - Pizza Nerds - solely about making pizza, pretty specific haha - Home Cooking - limited quarantine cooking series w/ Samin Nosrat - Believed - limited series - Cold - limited series - Broken Harts - limited series
I listen to a bunch already listed (Mom Hour, Office Ladies, Armchair Expert, Lazy Genius), but my favorite is the Popcast. I’m not a huge pop culture buff, but they are so funny, like trying to suppress laughter while listening out in public so that I don’t look crazy funny. I also like 10 Things to Tell You.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Planet Money! I swear it's not boring newsy stuff, they find the most interesting angles on quirky stories. Plus the episodes are a manageable length.
I also like JVN's Getting Curious, although I only listen to the ones I'm interested in. Radiolab has some great ones.
I use regular apple podcasts on my iphone. If I was listening to them at home I would play through Alexa, but I mostly listen in the car and when I run.
Funny: Conan Obrien needs a friend My dad wrote a porno (my favorite of all time) 2 Dope queens
Historical: 1619
True Crime (most of what I listen to) Serial In the Dark Over my dead Body Broken HArts Cold Bear BRook Culpabale S-Town Atlanta Monster To Live and Die in LA Someone Knows Something Shrink Next Door 22 Hours: American Nightmare

To Live and Die in LA was recommended to me about 6 months ago and I turned it on for the first time during my drive to work. Just as they started talking about the coffee shop down the street from where she disappeared I crossed that corner. I was so freaked out by that that I had a hard time getting into the series.

oh wow, that would be eerie. I tried listening to the one about the Golden State Killer that everyone suggested and I had to stop, it was way too fucking terrifying.
Favorites: You're Wrong About (revisiting events/scandals of the past & examining them through a new lens) Reply All (Tech/Funny) The Scaredy Cats Horror Show (Getting someone terrified of scary movies to watch them)
Others I listen to: Death, Sex & Money Embedded How I Built This Invisibilia Rough Translation Sibling Revelry w/ Kate Hudson & Oliver Hudson Sincerely Fortune NYT The Daily The Sporkful HBR Women at Work
I love a lot mentioned already, but lately loving Bad on Paper (skin care, being in your 30s, etc but hosts don’t have kids so it’s light on mom stuff which I like) and Rom Com Pods (host of BOP; it’s a fictional podcast that’s basically a hallmark movie).
