Happy last day of June! This has been another long month.
I just came in to whine about my teeth. I had 2 fillings and crown done a week ago and have been in pain ever since. Went back this morning and he filed some stuff down so hopefully my bite is better and then in an xray found a piece of cement that got stuck under my crown and then he fished it out. It was awful. I just ate lunch and attempted to eat on that side of my mouth for the first time in a week and now I'm in so much pain again. Tooth pain is awful and radiates through my whole head. Also I have horrible cold sensitivity right now.
Our 13 year old pug developed extreme vertigo this past week. After multiple vet visits, and meeting with neuro specialist, they did an MRI on her and discovered she had several microbleeds in her brain (strokes). It's typical for older dogs and unfortunately you can't treat it or narrow down a cause (it could be her blood pressure so she'll get that checked next week. Anyway, I'm thankful because it could have been worse (ie brain tumor).

I can't believe tomorrow is July.
I am working out 5 days a week, doing WW (I have lost 7 pounds with many more to go) but my blood pressure is through the roof. I guess genetics are real 😫 I sent a email to my doctor to ask about upping my prescription dosage.

Uggh I’m sorry! Boopers is turning 13 in August and this last year she has had so many new health issues. Newest is getting scabby spots on her skin and chunks of fur falling out.
I'm getting really sad/frustrated that we can't get any traction with adopting a dog.
I'm sorry. We found the process extremely frustrating and difficult even in non-covid times. In my area at least, adopting a dog is even harder right now because of the high volume of applications while everyone is home in quarantine.

We're heading down to the Outer Banks on Sunday. As long as the beach isn't too crowded, it will be great. Even if it is crowded, the house has a pool.

Also apparently we are getting a quote for central AC tomorrow. I filled out a contact form in desperation in the middle of the night and someone’s actually going to come. I’m like 70% sure we can’t afford AC but I’m kind of tempted to go for it if we can bc the quality of life situation in our house in the summer is no bueno.
I was supposed to leave for Missouri to visit my Grandma today, but my Covid test results haven't come in yet If they don't come in today or tomorrow morning I'll have to postpone the trip and that will break my Grandma's heart.

I hope you can afford it! It's worth it, IMO. If anything, you can get one of those portable ones (they usually have them at Costco this time of year) for at least your bedroom for cooling it down at night, but you can wheel it around your house to whichever room you're in to make things bearable.
Our house had central AC when we moved in, and then last May it broke (the compressor), and it was more expensive to fix than replace. Now we're looking at heat pumps because they serve a similar purpose, but are more energy efficient and save money over time. It's still upwards of $12-15k though, so... oof. And we're still paying off our roof that we replaced last summer. We're just not super excited about financing another chunk of money like that right now. Fans for us this summer!
My H started his new job yesterday, and our dog is so sad that he isn't home all day anymore. She usually curls up on the sofa with us for an hour or so in the mornings while we drink coffee and mess around online, but he left 45 minutes ago and she's just been lying on the floor, looking forlornly out the windows ever since.
I really need to figure out what we're going to do with her when I go back to work in August because she needs attention and companionship during the day and our cats don't give her enough of it.

Do you have a diagnosis for the scabby spots/fur falling out? Our pug got that when she was about 9 and it was Cushings but it took ages to get that diagnosis, because we put so much of her issues down to advancing age.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”
just no they haven't said what it is. She first got a couple last fall after she'd been on steroids for a while and her immune system was not great. But this time she hadn't been on steroids so it seems out of the blue. Her recent bloodwork looked really good.

We do have a portable AC for our bedroom and it helps a lot. The rest of the house is tricky since it’s sort of open and the portable units don’t seem to want to cool it down at all really. I’m so sorry about your broken AC. $12-15k is scary, there’s no way we could afford that! Still hoping we can get a reasonable quote and either get it done or start saving to have it done next year. 🤞🏼

We got one quote from an HVAC company, but we're also going to look through our state energy services company, and they offer rebates and stuff for becoming more energy efficient. Maybe try that if the quote you get is too high? Anyway, good luck!

We had to replace our unit last year. Get a quote and definitely negotiate on the price. Our quote was almost $10K and we got him down to around $6K. Even the tech from the same company that came out and declared the system to be dead was like DON'T PAY THE QUOTED PRICE!!
ETA: I think we got 12-18 months free financing as well. So that helped too.

I got my scan results back yesterday, and remain no signs of lymphoma. But, the scan had some really unpleasant things to say about my fibroids. I have an appointment with gyn, but not til the end of the month. My PCP talked me down a bit from my actual freak out. So, I wait, and suspect I’ll be getting my dream hysterectomy in August. Or something.
Meanwhile, my friend is not doing well. He sent me an email yesterday that said to remember “it’s been really nice knowing you.” On the one hand, melodramatic much? On the other, he is an MD, has seen lots of people die, and really is scared. *sigh* And, of course, I can’t do anything bc effing quarantine.

Lurker here- look into ductless AC. My house has no central air and every quote was over $20K because we have no duct work at all.
The guy told us that for older homes, a mini split ductless is the way to go. We are installing the Mr. Cool because it’s the only DIY one on the market and gets great reviews. But lots of other brands are available as well.

I hate to say this, but there are ridiculously high % of false negatives, so I don't know that a negative would make me feel good about going. I posted a study in the COVID chat...

Good luck!!!! We don’t have central air either, but have a bunch of window units and make do. It’s imperfect but okay until we can afford to add central. We have no ductwork, so it will likely require a high velocity unit in the attic (our house is solid brick and from 1926 so that’s likely to be the most feasible option) and I’m scared of the price lol!
In other randoms, our rental house is about a month from being ready to go on the market. Our plan was to do a 1031 exchange to a condo in St Augustine that we could rent out until we needed a soft landing for retirement (how am I old enough to have retirement on my radar?!?!). But with covid, I can’t see us going to Florida to house hunt. So it’s either buy a plan over the internet or.... get some waterfront property on MD’s eastern shore. The second option is looking more likely.

If you have forced air heat instead of baseboard or radiator, it is likely you have the necessary ductwork. That cuts down on the price significantly.

We do! I’m hoping it’s in good enough shape that we could install AC without doing a lot of duct work.🤞🏼🤞🏼

My sister got engaged on Saturday to her very sweet boyfriend. One of the first things she did on Sunday was go to a website to help her pick a wedding hashtag.
