I was supposed to leave for Missouri to visit my Grandma today, but my Covid test results haven't come in yet If they don't come in today or tomorrow morning I'll have to postpone the trip and that will break my Grandma's heart.
I hate to say this, but there are ridiculously high % of false negatives, so I don't know that a negative would make me feel good about going. I posted a study in the COVID chat...
Thanks for sharing that. I was aware that the risk of false negatives shortly after exposure is high, which is why I didn’t get tested sooner (my only significant risk of exposure was attending a march/rally and I got tested 8 days after). But I didn’t know the rate of false negatives was still that high. That’s disappointing.
my freaking teeth/crown still hurt like a mother. Just called the dentist because the internet says this level of pain after a crown is not normal and over a week of this is driving me nuts. The adjustments he made yesterday aren't helping.
Also apparently we are getting a quote for central AC tomorrow. I filled out a contact form in desperation in the middle of the night and someone’s actually going to come. I’m like 70% sure we can’t afford AC but I’m kind of tempted to go for it if we can bc the quality of life situation in our house in the summer is no bueno.
Is an evaporative cooler an option? I don’t know what humidity is like there. Probably not great since you’re near the ocean.

Definitely not normal. I don’t remember having any pain when I got my crown put on.

It’s insanely humid here. I’ve never heard of an evaporative cooler before. Im very curious what they will recommend.

Total lurker here... just wanted to chime in that I did this last week — had AC installed. It’s amazing! It was also less than I thought (we got a new furnace at the same time and it was 7k for the AC, furnace and duct cleaning. AC alone would have been a little under 5K. We’re in a MCOL area on the west coast). The electrical work was separate and cost about $900. I thought just AC would run well over 10K, so I’m glad we got a quote just to see what it might cost. Good luck with your quote!
In other randoms, our rental house is about a month from being ready to go on the market. Our plan was to do a 1031 exchange to a condo in St Augustine that we could rent out until we needed a soft landing for retirement (how am I old enough to have retirement on my radar?!?!). But with covid, I can’t see us going to Florida to house hunt. So it’s either buy a plan over the internet or.... get some waterfront property on MD’s eastern shore. The second option is looking more likely.
RT--we must be in the same life phase--H and I are looking to buy a waterfront second home for now, an eventual place to end up in retirement. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures. We are looking on the eastern (and southern) shore of MD too, plus along the Potomac in VA.

Oh man! I found a great property down in point lookout. I’m like “dirt cheap! I can tear down and build my dream little bungalow, and NO BAY BRIDGE!”
He says he wants eastern short and it was “too far down.” But no bay bridge! Doesn’t that trump everything else?!

So I'm the least cool person, but I actually caught onto Hamilton pretty early and fell hard! But I've never gone because $$$$.
I've been working like 70-80 hour weeks since March with no end in sight and nothing to look forward to ... so...
I think on Friday I'm going to get fancy take out, dress up, print out a playbill cover, turn off all the lights and 'go see' Hamilton at home! And then at half time I'll stand at my fridge for 20 minutes and then pour a glass of wine and down it in 5 minutes before going back to my seat.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

The first Confederate statue on Monument Ave in Richmond came down today. I watched for hours, but did leave when a thunderstorm rolled in hard. Missed the removal by about 20 minutes.

I watched a livestream on Twitter. It was awesome. I wish I could have been there in person, but it was too hot for me to be outside long. I loved that so many people stayed through the storm!

Who's up next? Jeb or Maury?
My vote is Jeb - more obnoxious and easier to take down. That one should be quick!

if you want the full experience, bounce from your seat the moment you see the curtain move for intermission and RUN to the rest room (to beat the line). Bonus points if you literally crawl over your neighbor.

Most people completely forget Maury is even there because they have no idea who he was! Cracks me up.

The first time I saw it, I thought there was no way I would make it through the bathroom line at intermission so I didn't go. Three minutes into the second act, all I could think about was peeing. I even thought for a split second about peeing in my giant wine cup (which was why I had to pee). I ended up literally crawling over everyone in my row and just going to the bathroom during a song like an asshole.
Our 13 year old pug developed extreme vertigo this past week. After multiple vet visits, and meeting with neuro specialist, they did an MRI on her and discovered she had several microbleeds in her brain (strokes). It's typical for older dogs and unfortunately you can't treat it or narrow down a cause (it could be her blood pressure so she'll get that checked next week. Anyway, I'm thankful because it could have been worse (ie brain tumor).
Uggh I’m sorry! Boopers is turning 13 in August and this last year she has had so many new health issues. Newest is getting scabby spots on her skin and chunks of fur falling out.
Our 18 year old pug mix gets those too. Does anything help?

Things are starting to look up for us financially, wahoo. I can’t take a full sigh of relief yet, but getting there.
My partner is getting a lot more work now that everyone adjusts to the new normal without touring/traveling. He also started an online music festival and organization that’s been doing well and putting money directly into creative musician’s pocket.
My current position ends next month, but I have several job interviews lined up and have started some "side hustles" to bring in some extra money. I’ve also completed the paperwork to continue abortion care per-diem at 2 different places.
So while it sucks we’ll likely be paying both rent and mortgage for the foreseeable future, I think in the end things will be ok. Phew.

You could imagine you were in London watching it and just bring your drink to your seat...which you didn't have to wait for, because you reserved a drink for the interval and it gets put on a ledge for you to pick up.

Yes, this is the best!!! We saw it twice in London, and always did our pre-order beverage for interval :-)

Hahahaha I’m dead. Apparently we don’t have forced air heat after all? Literally that is what the heating guys said when they installed our furnace. AC guy looked at me like I was nuts and now we are getting a quote for mini splits.
I’m ridiculously nervous about the wall units being ugly. I should be nervous about the quote being too high. Priorities. 😂

What kind of heat do you have? (I only know boiler/radiant heat and furnace/forced air heat.)

I won’t lie and say they’re not ugly at all, but...a nice cool house makes it worth it. Plus they go pretty high up on the wall typically

Apparently baseboard. Who knew. It doesn’t look like the baseboards I’m used to seeing, not those long skinny ones that run along the edges of the room. I’m learning so much about being a homeowner 🙄

Are you handy at all? The MrCool mini splits are designed to be diy. It’s what we are looking to replace our current ductless system with when it dies. It is significantly cheaper and get good reviews. There are you tube tutorials.
