DS has outgrown the tiny camelback with dinosaurs on it that he's had forever, LOL. And I hadn't even noticed until he was like, "MOM. I really need a bigger water bottle." Oops.
It's a billion degrees out all summer at daycamp, so something insulated would be good, but I also don't want a bottle that weighs so much he'll be annoyed by it.
What do your older boys/kids carry? Is there anything popular that I should get him? He has many differences, and because of that I try to buy him what everyone else has so it's one fewer way in which he stands apart. A few months ago he pointed out one of those green gatorate squeezable ones and said, "oh a lot of boys in my class have that" so maybe even though it's plastic and not insulated, I should just get that?
Lots of kids have the hydroflask at ds’s school. We have the similar simple modern brand ones from Amazon.
Thanks! I was wondering about those. I know they are popular to put stickers on, etc. Are they heavy? They look super heavy to me, but I haven't tried one out.
ohgillian,my ds has a different one that he uses for Scouts that he has decals on. Other scouts have decals too. The camelbak one he leaves plain. Btw, the Camelbak does not leak or sweat inside his tennis bag, which was a problem with the non-insulated Gatorade.
Ds has put stickers on some of his water bottles and likes it. DH did as well back in the day so I think it’s common for everyone.
The metal ones are heavier but stay cold all day if you add a little ice in the morning. And they’re super durable. Ds used them for all of second grade (he’s not careful or gentle) and we haven’t had to replace any and while they have some dents, they’re in great shape.

Do you find the painted ones scratch much? Back in the day, like when DS was a toddler, he had a painted Klean Kanteen and the paint scratched terribly. Of course then we lost it so it didn't matter. I'm looking thru some of the links in this thread and most bottles don't seem to have a stainless/non-painted option.
A girl I follow on IG just did a big water bottle test, and the winner was Takeya. You can get it at target.
I also love hydroflask. It’s a little more, but they’re super easy to work with if it starts leaking or loses insulation. And they legit keep water cold all day in the sun.
That being said I don’t have a 10 yr old so idk of these are “cool” or not haha.

I saw those on the Target website today! Thanks. It said they're new and they didn't have any reviews but I was curious.
ETA: If it's not hard to find, do you mind to share the insta link al dente? Thanks.

My ds, who usually doesn't care about brands or anything, asked for a Hydroflask for Christmas. I got him one, but we have a ton of other similar bottles from TJ Maxx, including one HUGE one we use for sports out in the hot sun. He uses them all (and the tops are interchangable for most of them, which I like) but still has love for his hydroflask.

I have an 11 year old. He has a yeti water bottle, it is 16 oz, and has been great for about a year. It is tougher than a lot of the metal double walled bottles, and has a non-leaking screw top. Might be too small for all day, and the 32 oz size is very big. My daughter has a hydro flask and a swell. I don't like either because when they get dropped, the bottom dents, and then they do not sit flat, and fall over. My boy would definitely not do well with that. My favorite water bottle for ease of use and cleaning is Nalgene. It isn't insulated, but a 32oz one is relatively small, we don't put ice in them, so they don't sweat all over their bags. The cap is attached, and can loop around a bag strap, easy to wash in the top rack of the dishwasher, and light weight.
Camelback makes larger bottles, both plastic and steel. Any metal/insulated bottle full of ice and water will be heavy...but most of them do a great job keeping water really cold! HydroFlask is a good brand but there are lots of others that perform as well, if he doesn’t care about brand. Sams and Costco usually have some kind of off brand in the 2/$20 range.

L and I both have Takeya water bottles. We LOVE them. I like that the it's a wide enough mouth spout to be able to clean easy, and when it unscrews, it stays attached so you can't lose it. They are easy to clean, easy to carry around, and keep water cold all day. L has stickers on hers.
I've noticed them increasing in popularity more and more.
We have contigo Ashland straw bottles because I liked the size and the price and the kids like straws better than sports lids. They keep drinks cold well. I think most of the insulated cups out there are pretty heavy.
I see some kids with the gatorade sports bottles at sports games, but most of the kids get the Nike/under armour version and they come with the big jug type things.

My 10 yo has had her Takeya for about a year now and she loves it. She’s used it for school, camp, bike rides, hikes, etc. She’s never complained about the weight of it and it’s never leaked.
She also graduated to it from the Camelbak bottles.
We have the tall metal contigo ones (just like contigo kids but bigger with the drinking spout/ straw). They also have plastic ones. The metal is a little heavier, but most of the weight is from water when it’s full. We have other cheaper tall metal water bottles with screw off tops. I recommend the kids that have a rubber connector so the top doesn’t get lost.
For stickers, you can get bulk character stickers for laptops/ water bottles on amazon and they last through a lot of runs through the dishwasher.
Do you think boys put decals on their water bottles or is that only usually girls?
My nephews are in middle and high school and have themed Vineyard Vines stickers (football, lacrosse), and sports teams stickers on their water bottles. They use Nalgenes (not insulated), and their sisters use Hydro Flasks. I think for the younger crowd / a child going to camp, you should avoid anything too expensive like a Hydro Flask. They want to grow feet and walk away when left unattended due to the $. Does it have to be insulated? I like using insulated when I'm in my car, etc., but when we're out hiking or biking I really prefer something plastic and lightweight.

They are not new to Target, lol. They have been selling them for years but the colors and sizes change a lot. I have both Takeya and Hydroflask. Functionally they work the same. I prefer Takeya for they ease of filling with ice and having a secure spout all in one piece. I also think they are slightly lighter and come with the silicone bumper to prevent dents and becoming unbalanced. Hydroflasks have a slight advantage in keeping ice from melting for longer, but that’s mostly a factor if you are going to be refilling the bottle with room temperature water throughout the day (like a water jug on a field) and want to have cold water.

Welcome to my overthinking-waterbottles party.
No. The paint hasn’t chipped or scratched off like my contino coffee tumblers. He only has one shiny painted one and he put stickers on it so it still looks new. He has a blue two toned one but it’s a textured surface and still looks new after a year of abuse. He also has a black one with stars that he got at Christmas and only used through March so it’s still like new.
