I am so sad for his family. I followed updates for almost the whole time, it was hard not to lose hope. I wish I could be as optimistic as his wife, I admire someone who can always be so positive, it's such a good trait to have.
Or actually clicked on the link in the first post. The first paragraph talks about what he did on Broadway.
I don't understand the point of posts like that. Even if it was someone not well known, there is literally a link letting you know who it is! And don't post if you don't care?

I thought that too. I like that she's had such a supportive, caring community around her. Their neighborhood seems to have rallied, with them showing up to play music in front of their house, etc.

And there are several people posting in here who are talking about how sad we are after having watched this progress over the last three months. So to come in, ignore the link and just be like "I don't know who that is" was, IMHO, unnecessary.

I have followed this story for months, not knowing who he was originally, but it was well publicized. My heart goes out to his wife and son. I know it does no good to think of what ifs but I wonder if things would have been different if he had caught it a few weeks or months later. One of the threads on this board talks about how we know to treat covid better now- thinking about how he lost his leg due to blood clotting which we now know to treat prophylactically and also the delay of using the ventilator.

I recently read about this story. Thoughts to the family. Reminds me of one of my young patients that died due to covid. I try to count my blessings every day.
Goddammit He fought so hard for so long; I was really hoping he would beat the odds. His wife seems like such a sweet positive person. I'm devastated for her and for the family.

I know he was in the hospital for so long but I’ve read a few stories about people near death suddenly recovering to the surprise of their doctors, and I was hoping he would be one of those people. Very sad. He appeared to be a healthy 41yo man, with the kind of lungs (due to his Broadway experience) that *should* be able to survive covid, but this illness is awful in how it affects some people so severely, and we still have little idea why.
This was heartbreaking. Started followed his wife on Instagram when I saw a story on them on the today show when he woke up. Amanda is such an inspiring person.

I had never heard of him before this and I started following Amanda on IG when I first read their story. She is probably one of the most positive people I’ve ever seen. She was so inspirational. I’m sending so much love and peace or her, Elvis and their family.
Over 130,000 Americans have died. Should we post a separate announcement for all? It would certainly be powerful to do so but we have refrained thus far. Although we did have an obits thread around here earlier.

Come on.
Your post was callous. “I... have no idea who this is” is appropriate for Tik Tok stars achieving fame for dancing in their kitchen but not when people are expressing grief about the death of someone who is one of those 130,000 Americans.
It would have been shitty if it was any one of the other 129,999 too.
ETA - the fact he was young, healthy, and fought this for three months is also significant. They amputated his leg to save him and were talking about a lung transplant. If he had lived, his life would have been terribly impacted by this illness. We should be talking about how sad this is.

^^^ yes!
Amanda was also dealing with making their house ada compliant for him to be able to come home and spoke about how long he would have to be in physical rehab if he pulled through. I think his story is very important because, like it or not, people pay more attention to famous people.

This is a strange way to say you're sorry and bow out gracefully.
