hi, we are renovating our kitchen in September. I love everything about our plan except for my lack of a bookshelf or something for my cookbooks. Wondering if I could take the doors off a small cabinet that will be above the microwave and have the contractor do something (add trim? I don’t know) as a kind of open shelving little cookbook spot. Doable? Or will this look totally janky.
I thought of having the contractor do shelves there but it’s boxed in by other cabinets and don’t think it will look right. Thoughts or suggestions?
Any contractor worth their salt should be able to make this happen. It might actually work better to put a smaller/shorter upper cabinet in that space and then build a shelf beneath in the open space, that way there is less customization. Is your microwave above your range? If so, I’d avoid that spot because it can get gross up there if your vent isn’t working properly.
We had a built-in wine rack on the end of our island. We took out the slots and added a shelf and now it’s a bookshelf at the end of the island. I love it.
