I actually think that there's some strategy behind picking Harris. If Trump is trying to be the "law and order" pick, she's the option on the other side with actual law and order experience.
Since when were we trying to appeal to trump and his base? Have you not been paying attention to what’s going on? Harris has long been criticized, by Black people, for being a prosecutor even before this "new" uprising. I like her in general, I read her book and "get" how she tried to run things as a prosecutor, but still. Ugh.
I'm not saying to appeal to Trump voters, just as a counterpoint that the left is a party of anarchy or some shit.
Guys, as much as I like Harris I am with wanderingback here. I don’t think she would be a good pick in the current climate.
Because I have more thoughts...
How many times during this election cycle have we lamented the loss of black voices on this board? But when one of our only remaining black posters says, “Hey, black people have some serious issues with Harris” it feels like people don’t want to listen to that.

But who is that counterpoint to?? Are democrats saying that the left is a party of anarchy? I don’t understand. "We" don’t want "law and order" so what benefit would it bring to highlight Harris’s experience as a prosecutor?
I’ve heard Susan Rice lately. That’s way more appealing that Kamala, IMO.
I wish people would stop trying to keep pushing for something that’s clearly been said no to. Stop trying to make it work, read the room, and learn to move on. Lol. Have we learned nothing?!

Oh yes someone on a physicians message board did talk about Susan Rice. All the moderate people on there said they'd like Susan Rice as a pick. I'll have to do more research.
Kamala Harris isn't the only qualified Black woman and the VP pick does not have to be Black.

OMG this. We don't need to counterpoint anything. I'd rather be an anarchist than the party of law & order.
I love Kamala Harris. I will admit to being biased due to her Jamaican roots and I was all gung ho for her. But, thanks primarily to wanderingback, I've read more about her and the impact of her law and order background and now realise she would not be the best choice.
However this is all not something I have a say on as #notanAmerican
I have a friend who works with the Biden campaign at a state level. Here's the short list he has been hearing via unofficial staff channels. So take what you will via rumors. He says it seems like the list is 3 with a fourth who is not quite on but not quite dismissed. The three are Ambassador Susan Rice, Senator Kamala Harris, and Senator Tammy Duckworth. The fourth is Senator Warren. He said if he was betting, he would put his money on Senator Duckworth.
My absolute only reservation with Susan Rice is probably unfounded, but I want to hear all of your opinions. Is it good to have a Prez and Veep so closely tied to the Obama administration? I can't decide if that would give the right more things to attack or that we DGAF because they are all acting insane. Is that something that even matters?
I think the whole veep list is fantastic. I just want someone who is going to come out and kick ass.
If I had to make a best guess right now, I think he’s going with Duckworth. She would be very hard for the Trump team to crucify as a veteran who gave two limbs in service of our country. She would be appealing to moderate Republicans who would like her history as a veteran and that she is from the Midwest, but she also is loved by Democrats, brings some diversity to the ticket and doesn’t have any major drawbacks/skeletons from what I have seen.

Some dumbasses are going to say Duckworth isn't eligible because she was born in Thailand, but I don't think that matters. People will find some kind of dumb, intellectually dishonest complaint about anyone who is chosen.

I don't think picking someone else from the Obama administration would be a huge drawback––Obama is incredibly popular in the party, and picking Rice doesn't really give Trump any extra ammunition when Obama's VP is our nominee. I suppose you could argue that the party as a whole has become more progressive since Obama (and Obama has, too), so it would be better to pick someone outside of the administration, but that doesn't seem like a reason not to choose Rice IMO.
I have heard a few articles mention that Rice has never held elected office as a drawback. That might be a concern for the Biden team, because it means she doesn't have campaign trail experience.

In today's Pod Save The World they discuss Susan Rice as a possible pick and mention that she has been involved with ever presidential campaign since '88. So no experience as a candidate, but plenty of campaign experience in general.
They also mentioned she has more executive experience than any of the other likely candidates which could be very useful since the whole executive branch basically needs to be rebuilt after Trump.
I don't honestly have strong feelings one way or the other. All of the choices are solid with one or two drawbacks for each.

Biden is running on his connection to Obama. That’s his main platform. Avoiding her because she shares his core value would be silly.
People talk about how Palin undermined McCain. In part she did so because he was liked for deep, uncompromising values rather than pandering to the whims of his party. And then he went and picked a clueless ninny who echoed none of that.

I bet they voted for McCain who was born in Panama.

Republicans will 100% try to litigate her eligibility.

Would've happily voted for Ted Cruz as well I'm sure.

Let em come.
“Genealogical records from Ancestry.com show that Duckworth’s father’s ancestors emigrated from Britain to America in the mid–17th century and that Duckworths have served in every major conflict since then.”
To include the American Revolution. Like damn. She can trace her family back through the Revolution and people still want to say she’s not American enough? The nerve of white people.
Welp, the Daily Caller has already dug up a 2010 video of Karen Bass praising Scientology at a ribbon-cutting.
I hope whomever is the eventual nominee has had the shit vetted out of them because Conservatives are good at opposition, and also have the benefit of their supporters believing things even if they aren’t completely true.

I just saw this and was coming to see if it had been mentioned here yet.

I'm pretty sure that Trump's already come after her, but I don't have the receipts to prove it.

He’s gone after gold star families and a POW from his own party. I don’t think a minority, female, democratic opponent that is an injured combat veteran is where he is going to suddenly find his moral compass and draw the line. If he hasn’t come after her yet I have no doubt he will.
