We need a new sofa and are deadlocked on color. Anybody really happy with the color you have? We've really only ruled out white as impractical with a cat & toddler.
Floors are maple with a warm stain, walls are currently greige with white trim. The living room is pretty much a blank slate waiting on us to pick a damn sofa.

We had THOUGHT ours was a grey color, but in the room it really "reads" as a denim/navy color. To my very great surprise, I like it a lot. It's the "Total Ink" color from Room and Board. The second picture that has the back of the sofa in the foreground shows the texture and color variation better...it's like a chenille but sturdy.
I like a colorful couch with neutral walls. That's probably not a popular opinion, lol. My current couch is burgundy (with Revere Pewter walls). In the past I've had a berry sectional and olive couches (with grey and tan walls, respectively).

We've considered both teal and marigold, so a colorful couch is definitely on the table.
We haven't repainted since moving in, so our walls are also Revere Pewter in some rooms and Light Pewter in others. I like it except it makes buying anything light or medium grey tricky since the wall color is really closer to beige.
We have brown "leather" in our living room space that is a high traffic area. It's really showing it's wear and is only 4 years old. I think it's because I cheaped out and didn't get real leather. I do love the color though and when it's time to replace will get brown again. The sofa in our basement is also brown but actually leans a bit towards grey, but it a microfiber and I really like it as well. It's not used as often and after 5 years shows virtually no wear.
We bought a navy velvet sofa last year. I don't have a good picture but I love it. I love how well it hides stains. We have two dogs so it's constantly covered in hair, but we just live with it.

We're looking at velvet since there are some good synthetics now and the cat may not snag it as easily as a fabric with woven loops. What takes off the dog hair - just vacuum or would you need to lint roller it as well?

The vacuum does a good job of getting it off and I usually go over the sofa when I vacuum the floors. If we're having company and I want it completely, perfectly clean I go over it with a lint brush.
lightbulbsun they’re from Crate & Barrel. Love them. They’ve relatively light weight too, which was unexpected. Heavy enough to stay put if you bump them (or the recliners hit them!), but light enough that the 4 year old can slide them.

A silicone sponge is great at getting pet hair off of upholstery!
What I'm taking away from this thread is thumbs up to a dark grey (there are dark grey cabinets in the kitchen so I already know it works with the walls & floor) and maybe don't pick marigold, lol.
dr.girlfriend , I also love your built-ins! Someday we hope to do something similar along a long, underutilized wall in our dining room.
Thanks! The bookcases were there when we moved in, but it all looked MUCH different!
WOW - you did such a nice job on the update! I never would have even guessed this is the same room. I love your current room, it looks like a place I would want to hang out.
Our couch is dark grey too. It definitely is a durable color - it doesn't show wear very much, cat hair isn't noticeable, and it gives us a lot of options for accents because it's still a neutral. I don't really love our actual couch, but don't have any complaints about the color!
That said, I am thinking our next one may be more of a teal or burgundy. I actually love color and because I've always "wanted options", I have picked a lot of really neutral stuff over the years to unsure it goes with everything, and I'm kind of ready to move on from that.
We have a light tweedy-looking gray and it hides pet hair and spills pretty well. We previously had a dark brown cover (it's an Ikea couch) and it showed everything so I'll be staying away from dark colors from now on. I think the type of fabric also makes a big difference with pet hair- some fabrics just seem to attract more than others.

We may have had the same tweedy-looking IKEA grey previously. It does hide things well and cat hair really didn't stick to it. We need a bigger piece of furniture for our new living room, though and the cat also LOVES TO SCRATCH all things tweedy. Alas.

Yes, that's the one. I want a bigger/better couch soon but I will definitely be looking for fabric that hides things just as well!
