I'm so happy it is Friday. DD and I are enjoying a quiet day at home. Got all the laundry done, DD's room cleaned up, and will be having a movie afternoon.
Saturday we are doing our first play date/visit. We are going kayaking with some friends which is being completely turned around. Guess DD's friend doesn't want to paddle now so we had to switch lakes/put ins for an area with a beach and swimming spot so she can play on beach. DD hates being in the dirty lake water. DD will go off and paddle with DH and I and probably the dad, older sister, and grandma while her friend and mom hang at the beach. No the socially distance visit I had imagined. DD is even refusing to wear a swim suit so she can't be pleaded into swimming. She is wearing shorts and a sports bra.
I'm not sure what we're doing this weekend. My guess is it will involve the pool and neighbors like most of our weekends. DD really wants to go on a hike, so if I can pull my butt into the real world before it gets too hot, we'll do that too.
My neighbor picked up some Ikea furniture for toy storage for us, so we'll probably spend some time assembling.
We have next week off for vacation, which was supposed to span most of next week and home for the next weekend, but now won't start until Thursday, so we're trying to figure out how to fill those days too. The nicest part? Of my 4 prospects that I've spent the last few months working through, 3 are dead in the water and the 4th is slowly circling the drain. So I won't have to worry about any of that next week. Silver lining, I guess??? I've already sent my vacation action plan to my team and I am.. ready to check out!
We’re having one of DS1’s friends and his mom over for a lunchtime pool outdoor play date tomorrow. Otherwise our only plans are to get ready for our vacation that starts Monday - lots of planning involved in going anywhere with four kids including a newborn, then add the pandemic. It’s supposed to be hot here, so we’ll probably spend a lot of time in the pool.
We are supposed to leave for OBX Sunday morning and check in by 5. Travelers have been encouraged to delay until the storm has passed. They are telling us to stay tuned to the weather reports. Meanwhile after it hits, it’s going to rain the whole week we are there.
I was supposed to be off early Friday, but ended up at the actual office late because my staff who retired yesterday locked himself out of everything and forgot any password he had ever had before submitting his final timesheet. SMH.
We are supposed to go boating and camping with our friend pod today. It's the first time all summer to fit it in. However its supposed to rain. And with all of the terrible news everywhere, I just want to go back into my hole and stay there. Ugh. We will see. Dh is off for the weekend and would like to do something. I may just drive up but be ready to bail and come home. Especially if it is raining and we are stuck under shelter in close proximity.
Yesterday the kids and I met up with another family from school at a playground in the morning. We were literally the only people there and it was a really cute playground. DD2 was not good about distancing despite repeated warnings. School should be awesome. 😳
Then we had a different family from school over to swim.
We had a lot of fun, but my tank is empty now. DD2 told me it was “the most amazing day”. DD1 listed off 7 places she would like me to take her today. I’m already exhausted.
No real plans today or tomorrow. The weather is absolutely gorgeous today. I’ve already been for a walk. Maybe we will go to the beach? Wide open.
I'm finally feeling ok and my quarantine ends Monday. So I need to spend the weekend cleaning the house and putting things back in order.
I also bought myself a diamond art kit and started that last night, so I'll work on that too.
I realized this week that I was clearly already in a precarious mental state and getting sick and quarantined pushed me over the edge. So I am forcing myself to get out of bed and try to be a little more active.

Quiet weekend. We spent most of the week at the beach, got home Thursday afternoon, just in time as we are expecting a small hurricane to come by Sunday. I took the girls to turn in their summer reading logs at the library and the book store to collect their prizes. Today I will grocery shop and we are setting up an old desk of H’s for them to work on their school work when it starts. The county moved the start date up so I am hustling to get their paperwork in order. Tomorrow, Hurricane pending, we were going to drop some presents by a friend’s house where both kids have had birthdays in the last week.
We are starting vacation today but going to buy a new car first in the opposite direction. But I’m excited DH is finally getting a new car after a year of looking and thinking and indecisiveness. And I’m thrilled for vacation. It is outdoorsy and low key which will be a nice change of pace and the boys will love it. Today is the first day so a bit stressful with checking out the vrbo, grocery shopping once we get there, driving and unpacking but I’m ready to relax. And I know I have to work probably a day of the week but I’m hoping to be away from my computer 90%.
DH is pretty sure he needs a root canal. He’s miserable and the dentist is.. not returning calls. He’s hopeful he can be seen Monday, but who knows. If he can’t be seen Monday or Tuesday, it’s going to ruin our vacation.

We went to my sister's church yesterday to help her hand out virtual VBS kits. The kids rode their scooters in the gym, we picked up their kits and helped my sister film her children's service, so all in all a nice little activity.
Today DS has a play date with his friend we have allowed him to see during the pandemic. I didn't realize this but DH asked if DD can go too (which is a bit mortifying in itself) and now we have a problem. They used to do play dates together with this friend all the time prepandemic but DS and DD started fighting and so we purposely quit including DD. She does have her own friend we have done play dates with so they each can have time AWAY FROM EACH OTHER. I mean, the fighting has gotten worse since the pandemic started, not better!
But DD is super excited and DS is super whiny and DH is like "no problem we just won't let her go". Like ok you created this problem so go ahead and deal with the brokenhearted girl YOU created. Enjoy. Not sure what to do and we have about an hour to figure it out.
@mustardseed- We has the same problem. The kids have been so bored that they want to go on play dates that are not for them. Mine haven’t been fighting that much, but the girls struggle with the dynamics of 3 people since they are 7, and haven’t really mastered that skill yet. My oldest is good about smoothing things along but the 2 girls got in a fight about room in the pool because DS was there and it left the play date awkward at the end.
When I was a kid we just dropped them off at that age and we worked it out on our own which wasn’t the greatest idea either. I just wish they had the social maturity of my 9 year old. The other girl was complaining why is he here, and he didn’t blink an eyelash. Another year or two and they will probably be better.
No advice for your situation, just I understand why kids want to come along.
Kids were grounded today because of bad behavior yesterday. DH wanted them to learn to work and play together better. Lots of fights today, but also lots of good sister time. Annoying things like paint smeared all over the front door and everyone denying it. But nothing crazy.
Then I went to put DD2 to bed... and found that while I was out buying new furniture and DH was home, they drove 3 HUGE nails into DD2’s walls... and then pulled them out, leaving huge holes. Did I mention we had our bedrooms painted 3 weeks ago? All nail and tack holes repaired? Spent thousands. Yep. Ruined. So that’s awesome.
I very much lost my temper. Like, in a huge way. We just... never have a normal day. Ever. It’s a day full of meltdowns, or destruction, or fighting, or some other crazy event. I guess that is our normal. It’s exhausting.
campermom, we were also supposed to go down to OBX this past weekend! Ha. We spent 9 days there back in June, but we were going back for a long weekend and of course they evacuated....so we re-scheduled for the end of August. We went to another beach just for the day yesterday.
Do y'all camp at OBX? (possibly a dumb question, lol). We take our camper there, usually 1-2x/year.

We are in Duck. No evacuation here (Hatteras did) and I think we will get relatively lucky. We were back and forth about whether to go or wait. Our renters insurance wouldn’t compensate unless we lost 4 days to mandatory evacuation. No we aren’t camping, we have a large house with my family. I would feel very differently about this storm if we were camping though!

Hopefully everyone fared okay there at the conclusion of this storm! We usually stay in the southern part of the island toward Hatteras and yeah they have issues with flooding for sure!
Looks like today is going to be a beautiful day so onward!
