I'm 38 weeks and 1 day
At 36 weeks 3 days I had high BP after getting bad school news as you may recall, talk of induction at 37 weeks but my blood pressure came down to like 132/82 at next appointment.
It was similar yesterday
I got a new cuff today and it was 112/87 then 134/87 and now just 142/90 (which is a number I'm supposed to call at)
My dad is bringing me his cuff to double check...which I've used lots so it will be a good comparison (update that does the average of 3 so it was 135/90 then 133/88)
But would you call or watch it overnight and call in morning
Or...what do you think they will advise...come in for monitoring, come in to have baby, or keep your eye on it
No other symptoms I'm worried about no protein in urine yesterday

Next time you go in, bring your cuff with you and have them take your BP manually and then with the cuff. I have a cuff at home that I no longer trust. The diastolic number is about 15 points higher than at the doctor's office.
My blood pressure went up at the end of my pregnancies but I had no other signs of pre eclampsia. My doctor felt comfortable monitoring it with NSTs and I ended up going 10 days over with both kids.
I called, keep checking it, monitor for symptoms, may need blood work in morning (I didn't ask what for)
I say this as someone who wasn't ready when it happened to me at 37wk (even though I'd had high bps for like a month, lol): I'd g'head and be ready to not go home after your appointment, just in case. I know things have changed somewhat since my first, but I'm pretty sure that aaaaaany hint of protein in your urine and they'll send you off for induction. At 38 weeks with virtually no risk to baby, any small indication of pre-e makes your health the priority and the best thing to minimize risk for you is to have that baby.
You are in good hands and I wish you luck! Get some sleep!

I read this at like 4 am when I couldn't sleep...but I heeded the message and turned off my phone and headed back to bed
So my BP is much better, 129/85 in middle of night and now 115/85
She made it sound as if the office would be calling me when they opened. They haven't. Obviously I'll continue to monitor it but wondering if I should call and say I had high BP last night but not now? My next appointment is Monday
L&D nurse here. I agree with laying on the side, rest as much as possible. Definitely let your OB know about your numbers.
Any sign of headache, vision changes, upper abdominal pain, swelling more than normal, just go straight to L&D.
And have your bags packed and in your vehicle if you havent done so already.
Thanks for chiming in, I love having you on this board
They are sending me for a nst and Ultrasound Friday morning
Question for you...am I like to get magnesium. Having read birth stories here over the years has me afraid of that
Magnesium is given for seizure prophylaxis for patients with pre-eclampsia. Having gestational hypertension doesn’t mean one has pre-e. Some doctors wait to give mag for patients that are pre-e with severe features. That’s what I was typically trained to do but I don’t do deliveries anymore. But it’s also clinical judgement. I would talk to your doctor about your question so that you have a better understanding.

Possibly. Sometimes we've just monitored BPs during labor and that was that. But more often than not, yea, magnesium. It's not fun, but it's the best tool we have at preventing seizures in preelamptic moms.
I had pre-e and magnesium and what I will tell you is that it makes you feel pretty awful for about a half hour (from what I recall) but after that it leveled out and really wasn't that bad. After the initial period, I didn't notice any yucky feelings other than just labor starting to ramp up. The bummer for me was having to stay an extra day in the hospital since they monitor bp for 24 hours after stopping magnesium.

This was 5 years ago but I had mild pre e and delivered at 37 weeks and didn’t have magnesium. I’d call today and tell them all of the readings you got. Better safe than sorry.
More about magnesium...would the same be true if I opt for a csection instead of TOL
This is your first, right? I would absolutely not opt for cs solely to avoid mag. I had extremely mild side effects, like.. some dry mouth and a single hot flash. I actually had mag with my 2nd and NOT my 1st (the induction for pre-e), so it's also not a definite, anyway. Major abdominal surgery recovery will be harder, and last longer, than magnesium side effects.

I had gestational hypertension with my second-BPs in the 130s/low 140s over 90s starting around 35 weeks. Since all my lab work and urine tests were good, my NSTs were good, and I had zero symptoms of pre-e besides the BP my OB was ok with me checking my BP 2x/day with a home monitor but I had strict instructions to call if it stayed above low 140s/low 100s or if I started with any headaches, swelling, etc. Thankfully that didn't happen but we still ended up inducing at 37 weeks because of the BP and my age (I was 38 at the time). I did not end up needing magnesium and my BP was back to normal by the time I left the hospital. Fingers crossed things continue to go ok for you!

I would ask your doctor at your upcoming appointment. But yes pre-e and pre-e with severe features can happen after delivery so having a csection doesn’t automatically mean someone won’t be on magnesium. I’d definitely talk to your doctor about all these questions so you have a better understanding as there isn’t a 1 size fit answer. Good luck!

2nd, this would be a VBAC attempt
Haha ok I was like woah, opting for cs just to avoid mag is a little drastic, no??

Another anecdote but I had gestational hypertension that kicked in around 28 weeks and didn’t need magnesium at my 39 week induction. My doctor didn’t originally think I’d make it to 32 and then 34 weeks.
During nst ...I felt like baby's heart range really changed during contractions....super quiet as it came on and then as it was releasing it was super loud. But they said baby looks perfect!
My blood pressure was super normal, 121/76
I got home and it was 142/89
So I think the best I can interpret there is this machine may measure high so I might need a higher threshold before I get scared
