I’ve always been team indoor/outdoor rug under dining tables but I am having a hard time finding one that I love. I think I’m going to try a real rug, but I want something super easy to clean. Any recommendations for things to look for to make sure a rug is easy to clean? Any experience with ruggable rugs?

I have two ruggable rugs, a 3x5 and a runner. The runner is great, I have it in my kitchen in front of my cabinets and it's easy to clean and looks really nice. The 3x5 rug is in my mud room/laundry room, and while I like how it looks, the ends curl up which is really annoying. That doesn't happen with the runner, so I'm not sure if that's a problem with a lot of their rugs, or if it just happened to be an issue with the one I got.
IMO, wool rugs are really good for dining rooms (or really, anywhere). They almost never absorb stains, are easy to clean, and are pretty indestructible.

In your experience, how long has it taken for your wool rugs to stop shedding constantly? That's what I couldn't stand about the wool rug I tried temporarily.

It has depended on the rug. At our old house we had a rug from Pottery Barn that shed like crazy for more than a year, then was normal. But it would fill up the vacuum canister every time we vacuumed it and leave fuzz balls all over the place during that time. The folks at Pottery Barn said that was normal because of the way the rugs are trimmed. I'd say it was worth it because that rug withstood both of my kids who both had reflux as babies, so they puked all over that thing and it still looked almost brand new when we gave it away. (it was the wrong size for any of the rooms at the new house) (eta: also, sorry for the tmi!)
And now we have another wool rug (tufted? I think) that we got from a nice rug store nearby that has been fantastic. It shed a tiny bit when we first got it, but nothing at all compared to the other two rugs. We also have a wool runner on our stairs, but it's woven (I think? It's this) and it also has not shed at all. In fact, when we redo our dining room, I'm having a rug cut and bound that will match the stair runner. It's good stuff!
I do need to add that another wool rug I bought is one of those that kind of looks like a fisherman sweater. It's the knotted type and super thick--DON'T get one of those, lol. We've had it for 4 years and it still sheds a lot. Now that it's not in a high traffic area, it's not as bad, but before we added on to our house, we had tumbleweeds of wool that ended up all over the house. They were popular several years ago and now I'm not seeing them as much...the shedding is probably why
bhnumbers, thanks for the info. I swore off wool rugs because I just couldn't handle the shedding that seemed like it would never end. I'll keep this in mind if we ever decide to get another one.
Sorry for the hijack, OP. To add insult to injury, I'm anti rugs under the dining table precisely because I don't want to worry about cleaning them! #lazy

ooh I'm ready to pull the trigger on a 3x10 runner for my kitchen. have you spilled any oil/grease on it? that's my only hesitation....

I posted fairly recently (on ML maybe?) about Ruggable rugs as I loved the washable concept but I was strongly advised against getting one. I also asked on houzz and it was a resounding NO. Poor customer service, the corners constantly curling up, not holding up well, overpriced and the designs are apparently just printed on the rugs. I ended up with an indoor/outdoor for ability to clean instead of the ruggable.

I drop a lot of stuff on it all the time and it's held up pretty well! I honestly don't wash it that often, but it's easy to spot clean.

This is where I’m at. My kids are... animals when they eat, rugs under tables are magazine and museum type items at this point in our lives. Maybe one day though?
