Saved probably isn't the right word, because it's either going to be OK or not and there's really nothing I can do!
Backstory: I got this tree as a tiny little stick on Arbor Day in 2018. It's a Sycamore, I put it in the back of my yard to replace a dying Ash tree we had to take down. It really thrived and grew like gangbusters but last fall a buck must have scraped his antlers on the trunk and damaged it. I was worried but the tree survived and flourished again this spring and summer. However, the trunk was weakened and during a storm a few weeks ago it snapped right in half. I've been REALLY UPSET about my tree, much more so than I expected. I've been back there and it seemed as though the tree was sprouting new leaves, and when I went back the other day, it appeared the leaves were growing. So now what I have instead of my 7 ft spindly sycamore is a VERY squat (like 1 ft) mini sycamore with a fat old trunk for it's size. It looks really healthy!
Is there any chance this tree could survive? What will it look like if it does? I'd be so happy if it did!
I have no idea to be honest, but if you have the benefit of time I would leave it and see if it makes it through the winter. However, if I was planning on having a full size tree in that area any time soon, I would probably let it go and get a replacement, since fall is prime tree planting season and I would want to have something in the ground this year.
I think it’s really up to you and that poor little tree!
