Hope it's ok to start a randoms thread b/c I have a few
- I started Invisalign Monday - only 8 sets of trays (woohoo!). I had them 15 yrs ago. They're a little different now, thinner and waaaayyyyy more anchors on my teeth (which I hate and it makes eating feel gross). Just a PSA to wear your retainers folks, or else you'll be back in the saddle w/braces/Invisalign.
- DS started baseball yesterday, coach pitch. He did really well! DH and I worked with him during covid times, glad to see the skills practice stuck and paid off
- I need to go to Costco but I always seem to pick the WORST times. Like I wait in an hour line and when I leave the store there's zero line
- The kids are staying at the grandparents' Saturday - DH and I are eating out for the first time in forever (outdoors). I CAN'T WAIT!!!

DH and I just had a long conversation about braces and such. I dropped my retainer in college and now my bottom teeth aren't straight. I don't think I have enough room in my mouth to re straighten, although Invisalign would be easlier. DH really needs a big jaw surgery and then I think braces, they think that's what causes his sleep apnea, but no one will cover it so he gave up. I guess he's going to start looking again if dentists can even do anything.
Speaking of dentists, there are rumors and threats my state will go back a phase as early as tomorrow (Friday). The Gov keeps making hints to it in his learn nothing new press conferences. Travel bans are way up so we can't go to the beach we wanted tomorrow because that travel ban starts tomorrow. The re-opening plan is too complicated to follow. I just need to know if I will have my dentist apt in a couple of weeks, and what happens to hair cuts and brow waxes? I haven't had a brow wax since before this started, do I risk trying to squeeze something tonight or let it go? Not worth the COVID risk I guess.

Poof! Someone asked for a reference, I'll answer the nice stuff that I know and just be vague with stuff that isn't so flattering. Funny part is diving deeper it's a job where I currently work so that's kind of weird, but probably why they're asking me for a reference.
litskispeciality - I think it's fine to be honest and specific if that's the experience you have with them. I obviously wouldn't say anything bad, I would just limit my responses to things I could personally speak to.

I'm looking for a new job, but feel bad since I have a job and I know a lot don't. I'm just so miserable, treated awfully by ownership, and am constantly being reprimanded for shit that is beyond stupid. They don't like the way I have something organized,, but it hasn't changed from my predecessor. That kind of stuff. If it was just one thing I would deal, but add on to that that they are major racists that just came out with all the George Floyd stuff... I need out. I'm the breadwinner and we are buying a house so that makes it harder.
We have our final intern "gathering" this morning. They're announcing the two scholarship recipients and I swear to GOD if the super obnoxious guy gets one I'll be so pissed, lol. I don't expect to get one, they're based on our reflection essays and fellow intern nominations (and I did not bond with my fellow interns, they're all early 20s and we have nothing in common lol). It's $1,000 so I don't really need it and I'd rather two of the other interns get it anyway. Just not him.
For some reason, H thought it would be a good idea to schedule tree trimmers and a big furniture delivery for this morning. He skipped merrily off to work before anyone arrived, so I'm trying to figure out how to manage two big trucks on our small cul de sac if the furniture people get here while the trimmers are still working.
On an unrelated note, I got my hair cut last night for the first time since February, and it feels AMAZING to finally have it back to my preferred length. I liked the stylist--she's new to me--but she kept going on and on about Covid and I really just wanted to talk about anything else.

I am feeling stuck at my job. Overall, I really like my job. I love what the company does. I love my department. What I don't love is that we are way overworked. There has been talk about adding head count and moving me up to a supervisory role. But, my manager said that since we are on a wage freeze, that I might get a promotion with no money (title change only) with the idea that once the freeze is lifted I would get the money. But, she said, "You know that's never guaranteed. So, maybe you would just want to wait until you can get the increase before taking the title." Which would mean that I would be working as a supervisor with no pay or title. I regularly take a look and see what else is out there and I found another position that I might enjoy. I'm sure it would be a pay cut, but I wonder if it wouldn't be as much work. I'm working around 60 hours/week right now. I am burning out at my current job and it would be worth it to take less money for a better work/life balance. Otherwise, I want to know that this hard work/long hours is going somewhere at my current position. And not a vague, "Yeah, we hope to move you forward on your career path." I want a plan.
BUT, I am feeling very stuck in many areas of my life. Some COVID related, some not. So, maybe I'm just looking at this like this is one thing that I can change. The rest I cannot.

I’m a Girl Scout leader and this summer we’ve been doing virtual meetings on the ratification of the 19th amendment, the voting rights act, politics, elections, etc. I was surprised to find out that most of my troop had never been with a parent to vote. They’re all going into 2nd grade, and I don’t know if they’re just feigning interest, but we’ve been having a lot of fun doing this work. But, I really wanted to let them have the experience of voting to back it all up.
So!!! I collaborated with my husband to make a voter’s guide with information about all the badges we can earn as Brownies. Then, he made what looks like an honest-to-goodness Illinois mail-in ballot with all the badges as options. We designed envelopes with all the signature lines and disclaimers on them and will be sending them to each scout’s house. They’ll vote and send them back to me to figure out which badges we’ll work on this year.
I had a dental appointment this week with a new dentist and he was very effective with pushing me to wear my retainer, so I’m back to doing that nightly now.
I also dropped money on a fancy Oral-B electric toothbrush because I have some gum recession on my upper teeth and this thing has pressure sensors to tell me if I’m brushing too hard. I figured $100 now is better than the pain and expense of gum graft surgery later.
DH and I are going up to the mountains this weekend for a tiny (under 15 people) wedding (H’s best friend). I am so incredibly anxious about it, but trying to just make myself enjoy the fact that we’ll have a weekend without the kids. I’m going to go for a hike on Saturday since H will be doing groomsman stuff. We gave the nanny the week off after we get back (paid) and will get covid tests on Thursday. Hopefully that’s enough time for them to register a positive result if either of us gets it and fingers crossed we get the tests back in a few days.
isabel - omg I love our electric toothbrush. It's so great. If I travel and just take a regular toothbrush, I actually miss it after a few days because my teeth don't feel as clean, lol.

This thing comes with a self-charging travel case. And there’s an app that connects via Bluetooth so it can tell you if you’ve missed any spots. Lol It was $130 from Costco and you actually get two of them, so H gets one too.
So when we bought our beach house it had previously been a rental and was sold furnished. Since we've been here a few weeks now, I have been massively cleaning/organizing the kitchen. My parents, love them, have never really gone through everything or save stuff because they might need it.
I have thrown away/recycled/put aside to donate so much stuff! We had a drawer overflowing and realized we had 3 cheese graters. I don't think anyone needs 3 of those.
My parents haven't noticed and you can actually see/find what we have. So much nicer. Sometimes this is the issue with big kitchens, since nothing is overflowing, you just figure you need all the crap shoved into the cabinets.
litskispeciality, despite having straight teeth 15 yrs ago, I had to have ~8-12 teeth shaved down for my Invisalign. So it is an option, it's only a little shaving. Side benefit of the Invisalign, they make my lips look fuller and pouty
isabel - I made a post about testing a week or two ago. Basically a test is useless in the 14 day window unless you’re symptomatic. It gives false security. You could be neg on day 5 and pos on day 9. I would just wear masks as much as you can and hopefully everyone else does the same. How are cases where you’re going?
Oh, hmmm. Ok, so there’s no point in testing? Cases are low where we’re going, but some of the guests are from other states and will be flying in. I’m only concerned about it because we’ll be at two dinners (rehearsal and post-wedding) with the other guests. Everything is outdoors though, so at least there’s that. The wedding itself is in a church, but there will be plenty of distance between everyone since there’s only a handful of guests. The bride and groom have specified that everyone needs to wear masks unless actively eating/drinking and DH isn’t going to do any extra activities with the wedding party beyond the formal dinners and wedding itself.
Blah. I really don’t want to pay our nanny to take two weeks off. That’s a shit ton of money.
Isabel, I think I'm going to need gum sugery again for a bottom tooth that moved post braces (I don't have the retainer anymore). I love my electric toothbrush. I should look in to a higher priced sensor one, I think that's hurt my gums.

Ok so the obnoxious kid didn't get one. BUT. And this is hilarious. The intern manager asked the staff (managers and talent acquisition partners) on the call what advice they had for the interns post-internship. And this motherfucker pipes up, "Um, Sharon, I think the advice I would give is..." Bitch, she wasn't talking to you. The lack of self-awareness astounds me.
My stomach has been funny since about 2am today, so that's great. I have no other symptoms so I'm sure it's nothing worrisome. I did eat some hummus yesterday afternoon that was not expired, but you are supposed to eat within X number of days from opening (the number was rubbed off so I don't know what it was!) and was at least 3-4 weeks old, so I'm wondering if that is the culprit.
I have 1 meeting this afternoon but may take the rest of the afternoon off. I finally got the go-ahead to send out the training I've been working on last night, so that's off my plate and I kind of just want a break. I need groceries, too, but I guess with the GI stuff I should probably stay home at least for today and see if it goes away before leaving the house. Maybe I'll see about having them delivered!

This is a thing?! And the hummus container tells you this? I had no idea. As long as the "sell by" or "best by" date hasn't passed, we eat our hummus, even if it's 3-4 weeks old.
My H is going to the store today and hummus is on the list, so I'm going to look for this when he gets home, haha. Seriously, I had no idea.
Also, I'm sorry you are feeling bad! I hope you are on the mend soon!

I don’t think she has to, that sounds fairly low risk, but yeah, testing negative at day 5 doesn’t really mean anything.
It’s likely we would have symptoms (assuming we’re not positive and asymptomatic) by day 7, right? I’m trying to avoid potentially exposing her since she’s been really careful and I feel bad that we’re doing this.
I think I’ll just tell her she can keep her distance from us the second week and we’ll wear masks if we need to be near her. Assuming we’re not actively sick. If that’s the case, obviously I won’t have her come over.

I don't know! I mean it does say it on the package, but I felt pretty confident I could just ignore if it wasn't expired, lol. I figured it was more of a taste thing than a food safety issue. It's entirely possible my GI issues are unrelated, too.
And thank you! I'm fairly certain it will pass. I've gotten kind of spoiled not getting sick much in the last few months!
H’s older sister asked H if she could borrow $20,000 for a deposit on a house. I said absolutely not to H but H wanted to. SIL & family are awful with money and I know we won’t ever get it back. He had previously lent sister & her husband money, never got it back and just got over it but I can’t believe he seriously considered lending again. H’s other sister was complaining to him just last year that she lent them $2,500 and she wasnt paying her back. He has such blinders on when it comes to his family sometimes.

He was all ready to fork over $20k!?!? Jesus.
That’s some serious nerve to ask for that kind of money.

Yes, when we bought our furnished vacation home the trips to donation sites were never ending at first. The knick knacks oh my! I am a minimalist and vacation homes are to be relaxing. So much better now since we purged the crap (there was even a Trump bobblehead).
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

We are on day three of no power after Isaias hit on Tuesday evening. We luckily have a generator, so the fridge, chest freezer, and one AC are running, but we also lost our internet service. So I've been at MIL's house with DD1 all week. This is on top of already having no kitchen due to our remodel. The electrician spent two days earlier this week just trying to figure out WTF is going on with our wiring and haven't been able to update it yet. And now we lost two days because of the fucking storm and resulting power outage.
I told my H yesterday that it would be the day I finally broke down and cried.
And then I got my period.
What else have you got for me, summer of 2020? I'm literally at my breaking point.
I've been loopy on muscle relaxers since Friday, and my back is better, but still not great. I'm not normally excited about going to the doctor, but I'm really looking forward to Monday when I can see my sports medicine doc, and Tuesday when I can see my PT.

He would never do it without me agreeing but yep, he definitely wanted to. Said he believes she will pay it back this time. I said it’s not a risk I want to take and really we should only be giving them money if we can afford to not get any of it back, ever. This is also the SIL that never gets DS presents and when she does it’s a $5 gift from the dollar store while she sends us links to gifts that are several hundred dollars for her 3 kids.

I needed the laughs from my use of the word slacks.
My kids have been in school 3 days and have today off for voting. My son has done exceptionally well. My daughter is bored and driving me bonkers! She was expecting a full load of work and constant teaching. I think she forgot this is the first week of school! She is driving me nuts. I told her to give them time! They are still learning the virtual academy out.
