Pok Pok for amazing Thai and Salt & Straw for ice cream. Both Portland.
Came here to say Pok Pok (although I’ve only eaten at the one in Brooklyn) and Bollywood Theater, which is conveniently a couple doors down from Pok Pok.

Any type of food you're interested in or want to avoid? For ice cream I second Salt and Straw. They have them in Seattle too. Their goat cheese marionberry habanero is phenomenal.

You could always go shopping at Uwajimaya in the international district, they have some good spots to eat there; though things maybe different now with Covid, and I haven't been down there in ages.

Pretty sure Pok Pok is closed indefinitely due to covid. The owner has been pretty outspoken about it not being safe for his workers. He has also permanently closed a bunch of locations.
Not sure where you are coming from but Portland dining is still pretty buttoned up, so your options esp for dine in will likely be limited.

If you want to splurge, The Herb Farm is wonderful. We like McMenimen’s for pub food.....they do incredible rubens.
.
I second Herb Farm for a major splurge, and plan to spend 4-5 hours there. It’s outside of Seattle in the local wine country.
McMenimens is all over the place in Oregon and my H’s family loves it so I’ve been a lot, but have never had good service or food. Though I’ve never had the Ruben!
If you’ll be going outside of Seattle proper, we just ate at Barkada in Edmonds and loved it! Casual Hawaiian Filipino food (plus boozy slushees!)

We have been to McMenamins' breweries all over the Portland area. They have decent beer but I find the food mediocre. The atmosphere is cool though, especially at the Kennedy School. But for great local craft beer and good food I recommend Ancestry Brewing (SE Hawthorne or Sellwood) or Ex Novo brewing (N Flint).
In the Pearl district there are many great restaurants and breweries. We love Andina (although they currently only offer to-go orders).

In my defense.....we have never gotten past the rubens at McMemamin’s. We go to the one down the block from McCaw Hall, I think it is on Roy.
Down the block from McMenamin’s, towards I5 is a Mashawi, a Mediterranean/Lebanese restaurant that is quite good too. It doesn’t open until 4 though (all of these are pre pandemic, we haven’t been out to eat in Seattle since early March). We have season tickets to the ballet, so hit up either of these when we go as we have parking with our tickets nearby.
