This week I read The Regrets by Amy Bonnaffons. I was surprised by how much I loved it. Really quirky, imaginative read.
I also read Darling Rose Gold (good but nothing extraordinary) and The Beauty in Breaking by Dr. Michele Harper (really good).
Now I'm reading The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave. Good so far.
QOTW: I've read a lot of great voices this year. It's hard to narrow it down to one. Alice Hoffman is new to me this year and I really loved the beautiful poetry of her storytelling in The World That We Knew. I'm definitely going to check out more of her books as a result.
Things have been a wreck but apparently that didn’t slow down my reading much.
The Lucky One by Lori Rader-Day
The Comeback by Ella Berman
The Fixed Stars by Molly Wizenberg
You Again by Debra Jo Immergut
The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed
The Missing American by Kwei Quartey
QOTW:
I guess Jennine Capó Crucet, Tiffany D. Jackson or Carmen Maria Machado. I don’t think I had read anything by them before this year but now I’ve read everything they’ve published I could find.
I'm about 75% of the way through Catherine House. It's definitely different and I'm curious to see where it goes, which I think will determine how I feel about it overall.
QOTW: It's hard to judge after just one book but I would have to say Silvia Moreno-Garcia (Mexican Gothic). I plan on reading more of her works soon.
I listened Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell: 5 stars I read Party of Two (#5 wedding date): 5 stars. I love the cheesy formula of these books. I’m currently reading Oona Out of Order.
QOTW: Deanna Raybourn. I just found her this year and enjoyed Speedwell series.
I read Open Book by Jessica Simpson, The Unraveling of Cassidy Holmes by Elissa Sloan, and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch.
QOTW: For new authors time me this year, I find Blake Crouch’s books hard to put down. I read both Recursion and Dark Matter this year, and the concerts are so different and mind-bending from what I’m used to. Last year, Taylor Jenkins-Reid would have been my answer.

I finished Midnight Sun and it really took me back to my Twilight obsession.
I'm also working my way through a reread of The Black Dagger Brotherhood series on audio. I finished book 3 and started book 4.
I'm also currently reading Master Class by Christina Dalcher.
QOTW: The only new to me author I've read more than one book of this year is Kevin Kwan. I did read Curtis Sittenfield's newest and am interested in her other stuff.
I've been away from this board for weeks, but I'm going to try to be better about checking in.
My goal is to finish Automating Inequality: How High-Tech Tools Profile, Police, and Punish the Poor today. I started it back in January and kept putting it aside because even though I think it's an important topic, it's actually kind of boring/dry.
I'm also reading Dark Mirror: Edward Snowden and the American Surveillance State, which reads like a spy novel and has me engrossed, but I needed to set aside because I've been too sleepy to pay proper attention to it at night when I read before bed.
Lastly, I'm also reading LaGuardia, which is a graphic novel by Nnedi Okorafor. It turns out it's actually a sequel to another graphic novel that I haven't read, but it's all different characters and several years later, so it doesn't seem that important that I missed the first book.
QOTW: I discovered Lisa Jewell this year. I'm definitely going to check out more of her books. I really enjoyed Watching You.

I’ve been reading Lisa Jewell since the ‘90s! She used to write mostly just straight fiction.
