I’m in NC. Our county is 100% virtual but we switched her to a charter three weeks ago. She does 2.5 days a week and 2 days at home (friday is a half day at school). So far it’s good. Her class at school only has 5 kids so far and everyone is masked. They do a lot of outside time by eating lunch outside and doing lessons outside if possible.
Not in the US. The city is at 50+ cases per 100K population. All schools are scheduled to start back on 1 September, full time. Masks and social distancing for kids above 12.
E1 is in face to face kindergarten. I'm comfortable with the precautions being taken, plus after this past spring, I just CANNOT teach him myself. We need space and he needs structure.
Masks are recommended but not required for K. Masks required for 1st grade and up and all staff members. Social distancing is in effect as much as possible. Their desks are spread out. They are distanced in the cafeteria with assigned seating.
I have relocated to another state with my kids during the pandemic (see my intro post) where we're staying with family. I just enrolled my rising kindergartner in a local private school that is meeting in person. Everyone is required to wear masks, parents are not allowed in the building and we have to take his temperature at home every morning and complete a health screening. They also released a 70+ page document of policies they are following. The school he was supposed to go to is going fully remote and we're not eligible for the local public school because we're not residents.
I am not sure of our numbers, but they're high. Living in a red state (MO) with a governor who has taken little to no action, they aren't improving much.
This is really agonizing. We have my son enrolled in the local public kinder, which is all virtual for everyone. But, we also are keeping him at his preschool, which offers K. He's mostly enrolled in the public school so he can get some of the resources and make the transition back easier, but won't be participating live much. I don't know how it will go, but at least he has a safe place to be while we both work. The preschool is very small and taking a LOT of precautions, so I feel comfortable with it. My daughter goes there too, so it's one place of exposure at least.
My Kindergartener started on Monday. Our county is starting all online with a hope to eventually switch to a hybrid model but NOT before the end of October. We just opted to sign up/commit to virtual only learning for the first semester and then will reassess for the 2nd semester. We hired help for 3 hours a day (morning) and then my husband and I will alternate helping in the afternoons. So far it has been going alright, however, we are just in an “orientation” phase now so we are easing into a full schedule.
