I read Know My Name. Really excellent. I started The Cubans: Ordinary Lives in Extraordinary Times and when I reached page 18 noticed that the next page was 51. It was published with a chunk missing so I called the library and let them know. Since I have to wait on another copy for a later time I started Separation Anxiety. Really enjoying it so far.
QOTW: My H and I are going away for one night in the Shenandoah without DD. We’re going to hike, eat farm to table food, and drink wine. I can’t wait. Other than that, it’ll be a normal weekend.
I read Finding Freedom (I’m not going to rate it) and The Autobiography of Malcolm X which I’m embarrassed I hadn’t read before and wish was required reading in HS across the country. Such a fantastic read.
I finished The Boy from the Woods by Harlan Coben, 3* and my son and I finished Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl,2*. Both of these books were my least favorite by those authors thus far. I just started The Light in Hidden Places by Sharon Cameron.
QOTW: No plans thus far. School starts the day after so we probably won't be doing much.

QOTW: moving!
This is on my hold list. I look forward to reading it!
I just abandoned A Well Behaved Woman — historical fiction about the Vanderbilts, which started well but moved too slowly for my distracted brain. Now rereading The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde. Part satire, part spec fiction, part mystery — should be much easier to stick with! I just picked up Rodham at the library, so I’ll start that next.
QOTW: nothing planned other than enjoying a last weekend of relative calm before the chaos of in-person and virtual teaching at once begins the next day.
I Got a Monster: The Rise and Fall of America's Most Corrupt Police Squad by Baynard Woods and Brandon Soderberg
The Less Dead by Denise Mina
Happy & You Know It by Laura Hankin
Want by Lynn Steger Strong
QOTW: we do not!
I'm reading this next. Would you recommend it?
I liked it. There is a “twist” near the end of the book I didn’t think was needed and seemed a little shoehorned in but I thought it was pretty engaging. Worth checking out!
Listening to Know My Name. Very good so far. Nearly finished reading New Waves by Kevin Nguyen, not what I expected when I read the description, still undecided how I feel about the book.
Likely planting some shrubs and perennials. We started a front yard project in May/June, then it got too hot and I didn’t want to plant new plants in the heat, so hopefully we can find most of what is on our list and get some plants in the ground. Planted a tree yesterday.
I just realized that I created this and never posted.
Earlier this week I finished The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert. I absolutely loved this to the point that I put a hold on the sequel when I was only 20% in. It's a dark take on fairy tales.
Now I am reading On the Come Up and hope to finish in time to participate in the discussion.
QOTW: No plans. ☹️ We usually see my family but won't this year.
I read three for my summer challenge that I otherwise would not have picked up: Once by Enda Walsh (play I’ve seen) Bandette - Volume 1: Presto! by Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover (superhero comic) Relax - you may only have a few minutes left - using the power of humor to overcome stress in your life and work - Loretta LaRoche (month in title)
QOTW: No specific plans yet for Labor Day. I have two books left in the challenge that I hope to complete before the weekend, but if not, I will definitely finish them by Labor Day. I will probably try to squeeze in as much pool time as possible (unless it’s too crowded), run, and go to the farmer’s market.

Beach Read by Emily Henry - I heard this one talked about by a few Podcasters that I listen too and they made it seem like it wasn't really a "beach read" so I spent the whole time waiting for the other shoe to drop and it didn't. There were some heavy things in the past but it was a standard enemies to lovers romance.
Lover Unbound, Lover Enshrined and Father Mine by J.R. Ward
The Lucky Ones by Liz Lawson - this was about a girl who survived a school shooting and her dealing with the pain of it all. Very timely but I thought the ending was rushed and didn't make sense.
The Answer Is...Reflections on My Life by Alex Trebek - He is a dorky guy who thinks his stories are more interesting than they are. (Not that that's a bad thing!) I found most of the book boring except for the parts he talked about Jeopardy! And Ken Jennings narrating was genius.
QOTW: holidays don't really exist for me anymore. Ugh. It will be like any other weekend likely.
I gave up on Black Leopard, Red Wolf last week. I really hate giving up on books but the violence was getting to me. I need to pick up a new book but I guess am having a short break. I'm re-reading an old Calvin and Hobbes at bedtime.
