(I'm a tiny bit North of Seattle)
@-mentioned I've been SIP from the smoke since Tuesday or Wednesday with my H and 8w-old DS in our <1,000 sq/ft condo. And I'm a seasoned Quatantine-ee by now, but losing access to the outdoors during the last few weeks of summer is a PITA.
We are stuck inside like everyone else and I'm sad. I have surgery coming up this fall/winter and I really wanted to enjoy some outdoor time before that came up. It's so heartbreaking to see all the destruction from the fires as well 😢.

Thank you for starting this board again!
I feel the same!
One of the things that's made WFH bearable this summer is working in my dining room with my slider open. Not lately!
I do feel very fortunate though, my Eastern WA friends are relatively safe, and no one's lost their home yet. I am safe in my house, and I don't have allergies. Counitng my lucky stars!
Hi! I didn't live in Seattle the last time this board was active, but I'm here now!
This smoke is driving me CRAZY. I feel anxious and stressed (which is nothing new in 2020) but I can't even go for a walk or run to escape my house. I can't imagine how hard it must be for people threatened by the fires.
Smoke is driving me crazy too. I hurt my back (again) so I haven't really been able to get out and walk or bike around the neighborhood, but I've been sending a lot of time reading on the deck and that's obviously been out of the question.
Hi! I think I moved here around the same time as smock.
We’re hosting a school pod so not only is my family cooped up in the house, but during the day we also have 6 kids in the basement rec room. I can’t wait for the smoke to be gone!

I moved to Arkansas three years ago (can you say culture shock?). I'm sad for you all. I look at the AQI each day and hate it for you guys. I hope you all stay safe.

Morning! I'm in Seattle (Ballard - but I may delete that part). Happy to have this board back up and running!
The smoke is suffocating. I was hoping the bit of rain we had last night would help but our air quality right now is the worst we've had yet. Supposed to do a backpacking trip in the Enchantments starting Saturday (my sister got a spot in the lottery) but that's looking unlikely at this point.
Trying not to complain about the smoke here too much because I know other areas have it so much worse. So hopefully a change of weather later in the week will bring relief to everyone dealing with the fires.
I'm a forever lurker on the boards, but will try to participate in the Seattle board! So thankful for the rain last night, and hoping for more this week to help control the fires.

3 years ago? How does time fly that quickly?
Wait a minute. I had a school friend who moved to Arkansas about 3 years ago. Did you go to NSC by any chance?

I'm in North Seattle, just south of Shoreline. The end of my road dips down, and it's often foggy in the morning. It's hard to tell if it's smoky outside, or just that the fog hasn't burned off yet. Perhaps a combination of both.

Yep, three years. It has been a crazy three years, too. I work for a company in California now, James had cancer/almost died/has been in remission for almost 2 years, we have three giant dogs, @ Tman is 5'10", 170 pounds, and in 10th grade.
I asked the boards a while back about buying a smokers house in Seattle. And I have an update! We started the process of buying the house in the beginning of the year, just as the COVID shutdown was happening. The owner passed away last summer so we bought the house from her niece off market. Her niece was very sentimental about what was originally her grandparent’s house and knew that her aunt loved our kids and was something that she would have wanted. We spent a full month cleaning, painting, replacing appliances and hardware and it made the smoke smell almost completely unnoticeable. Overall we’ve been very happy with our new house, but it’s been a lot of work to get to this point.

I remember this! I'm glad it's a positive update and that you have a nice house now!

Holy crap georgeharrison - Tman is a SOPHOMORE? He was just a baby with missing front teeth last year, it seems like. But then Kiddo and Kidlet are 9th and 11th this year. I can't get over the fact that they're all the same age and growing up. :tears
I'm north of Seattle, south of Everett. Not too far from picksthemusic actually. And she used to work for my doctor's office. Small world in our outer ring suburbs. lol.

Helloooooooooo
there will be @@ updates herein.
I'm in the 'bad' part of West Seattle (I kid, I kid...) near the quickly-gentrifying White Center. Same house, but we're doing hardcore renovations - which is rough in the best of times, but now is super rough. Whole rooms are torn apart, stuff from those rooms is binned-up in other rooms, and it's making me crazy.
In the last couple of years, we've replumbed the house, did the kitchen (new floor, appliances, cabinets, countertops, backsplash), and now we're in the process of converting half our basement (bathroom. tiny guest bedroom, rec room) into a bedroom suite (bathroom, walk-through closet, bedroom). We finally finished the bathroom just as we started locking down, so that's nice, but it's still got a way to go.
I've got two kids, 13 (!!!) and almost 11 (!!!) in SPS. When school is in session, I work as an IA sub, which is a lot more fun and interesting than it sounds. I was contemplating going to full time with the start of this school year but... oh, yeah.
I think that's it. I haven't been on the main (politics) board for forever and a day. Not for any real reason, just... busy, involved in other stuff, etc etc etc.

I love watching the adventures of B and X on FB. I haven't been following too many of the home renos. A friend of mine owns a freaking mansion in Shaker Heights (Cleveland) that she's redoing and I seethe with envy at her house, taste, everything. (It was her parents' house. They made millions on an internet craft store. One of the first that ever went online. You know those safety pin and bead snowman/santa/flag/you-name-it pins? Yeah, those were her folks in bumfuck, Ohio that started that years ago. And they made a fortune with it. Enough to buy the house that the folks that built Terminal Towner and much of downtown Cleveland had as their "summer home in the suburbs" on acreage in Shaker Heights that backs up to the country club. As in, nice enough that she offered to host my husband's and my wedding. And she hosts fundraisers for Sherrod Brown and other political luminaries...where Sherrod Brown actually showed up with his wife Connie Schultz and Liz Warren was his special guest. In her freaking dining room.
I hate her. Or I would if she wasn't such an awesome person. But she's doing her downstairs bathroom right now. And it will be as gorgeous as the kitchen and the master bath. Bitch. (lol.)
We're doing some work, little by little. I think I just want to take a chunk, get it done and over with. A friend has an AirBnB/VRBO out here. I want to just rent it for a month or two and just go to town without having to deal with the hassle of actually dealing with the mess.

Hi! I’m north of Seattle, just above the north end of the lake. The smoke + start of remote school + end of summer + stressful stuff going on at work + pandemic generally is making for a memorable year, lol. I’m hoping for some better air soon so we can take a short trip to the coast before the rain sets in. At this point I’m just crossing my fingers we don’t get the big earthquake/tsunami while we’re there...

I'm partially on edge waiting for "the big one" to hit. I feel like the way 2020 is going, an earthquake is bound to happen... ugh
I lived in the Seattle area for 11 years. I just moved back to central/eastern WA at the end of June. Back in January H and I went on a date and talked about moving to my hometown. We just purchased a new construction that won't be done until December. So in part due to COVID (we delayed our move for 3 months), it'll be almost a full year between the first conversation about moving and being finally settled.
ETA: smoke in my neck of the woods is terrible too. This is the start of day 5 staying inside @with my active 4 year old DS.
Add me to the list of people convinced the big one is coming. Because if I've learned anything, it's that 2020 can (and will) get worse.
on a completely different topic...
I have an IRL friend (my college roommate) who writes historical fiction. She's good at it, been published and regarded and all that. She lives in the Portland OR area, and I feel like I should hook you two up. Is that weird? If you're into it, let me know and I'll toss you together...

Do NOT give God, Mother Nature or anyone else any ideas. The Cascadia Subduction is years behind schedule.
At least we don't have Australia's bugs or reptiles or bat creatures? I'm going with the silver linings part as much as I possibly can.
