Day 2 of hybrid and what I am calling phase 2 of remote learning:
Definitely much less engagement and academic work for both kids. Synchronous for hybrid 30 minutes. Finished by 11 probably.
DS has a long stretch of time In the morning and finished his homework before his math call. His day is weird. Calls only until 10:15 then back on 1-3ish.
Academically I wonder if e-learning phase 1 was more rigorous/ better paced. I don’t know what she is doing in the classroom, but at least it gets her out of the house.
For hybrid days in school are great, days at home are kind of busy work.
Well it is what it is until January when DS will go hybrid or maybe the school will open fully. I’m not holding my breath.
waverly- my kids were home while most of the kids at their school were in person. DS had a remote teacher. DD has zoom meetings with her actual class and was doing all the exact same work the in class students were. DD could have finished all her work excluding the zoom meetings in about 30 minutes. Zooms were 3 at 30-ish minutes each. Granted, my kid is a brainiac and kind of nerdy (she spent some of her spare time writing 5 paragraph essays about the characters in Hamilton.) but even the kids learning at home who struggle with school finish very quickly.
Our set up is different. The whole school was remote, so it was their whole class on zoom.
Once we moved to hybrid DS got reassigned to a remote teacher. DD sees her hybrid teacher, but since that teacher is teaching on the other days then her off days are mostly asynchronous.
I don’t care as I am in the let’s just get through the year camp. But I was interested in the different models and which was best. In the end our principal for DS’s grade (who is awesome) summed it up the best way.
Whatever decision we made was right for our family. Everyone kept asking her what was the right decision since I think a lot of parents were agonizing about these hard choices.
sdlaura yep! Well Avila Beach anyways, but pretty much SLO. We’ve been bouncing back between the two.
Did you recognize the pier?!? You’re pretty good if so!
k3am just saw this - sorry. I just guessed because of the area where you live and which college towns are beach towns within driving distance I love that town and have friends who went there. Have fun!
