I am so sick of people with no backbones! If Chris Wallace saw that the Trump contingent took off their masks once the cameras were off of them, then WHY did he not call them out on TV once the debate started?
He could have made a general announcement that all audience members were required to keep their masks on, and then if they didn't put them on, called them out. It would not have been political, it would have been for the safety of everyone there!

They didn't even wait until the cameras were off. I saw them take them off when they got to their seats. But I do agree they should have been addressed on site.

I find this most infuriating of all. They were in a freaking hospital setting where there are strict rules about this. They should not have been allowed to stay if they refused to wear masks. Everybody in this country who has any sort of pull is so freaking spineless.
I know he's a lying liar who lies, but now he can't do his in-person ego rallies for 2 weeks in the month prior to the election date, the stock market is freaking out, and the focus is back on his mishandling the pandemic.

This is why I keep bouncing back and forth between lie and truth. It’s sad testament about how much this administration has corroded any sort of trust Americans had in their government

What would happen if Trump and Biden died? I mean, I hope Biden is okay but I don’t know the protocol for the death of a candidate so close to the election.
ETA I do know what happens if Trump dies! It’s the Biden part I wasn’t sure about.
I don't know what happens if Trump dies and would like to. I mean, I know what happens until January. But in terms of the election, where people have already voted for him, would Pence just take over the ticket with a VP of his choosing and get the Trump votes?

The electoral college, not the people, decide the president. The people just vote for electors. If they haven't voted yet and the "president elect" dies, they get to pick.
Of course, if Trump gets reelected but dies before electors vote, then Pence becomes president until Jan. 20th, so they would likely elect him but could be lobbied to elected whoever the fuck they want.
If Biden gets elected but dies, even bigger mess because the berners would be out in force calling for electors to pick him while the actual DNC rules would say they should elect Kamala.

I just can’t see him quarantining for 2 weeks. He’s that delusional.
Eight to twelve feet away from a person who was shouting, maskless, is not a remotely safe distance. Biden and Wallace were absolutely exposed. I read a health care worker said everyone in the auditorium is considered to have been exposed.

I know I shouldn’t wish death on people but if anyone deserved to die from Covid, it’s the trumps. (Though i don’t really wish it, if only for the pandemonium it would case and we desperately need Biden to take over asap)

Well yes, I know the bolded!
My question is really just a very nerdy, almost certainly irrelevant curiosity about the actual laws in play if Trump (or Biden, but he's not the sick one) were to die before Nov. 3. It seems to make sense that Pence would just take over the Pres slot of that ticket and throw in a new running mate, but I don't know if that's true or whether there's some specific archaic rule about how that all works, especially considering it's too late to add a new candidate to the ballot. And would the votes that were already cast for a Trump/Pence ticket still be counted as-is, leaving the electors to decide whether to "apply" those to Pence, or would they be counted directly as votes for Pence since it's the same ticket?

Before the election, the RNC would petition the courts to change the name on the ballot. But the article also says it's too late to reprint them. After the election, if he wins, electors would likely choose whoever the RNC puts on the ballot. Even the ones who "have to" vote for who their state says. But the RNC has to agree on a new candidate, it's not automatically Pence.

Well if Season 7 of the West Wing taught me anything about constitutional precedent ...
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

Hell! Now Chris Wallace is saying that the Trump contingent deliberately arrived late for the debate so they could avoid the pre-debate COVID test, and that is why Melania kept her mask on while the rest removed theirs. They knew!

He’s also just been taken to Walter Reed out of an ‘abundance of caution’.
Not just taken. Airlifted. Sure abundance of caution OK.
He did ride in the helicopter, but he walked himself on and off the plane. It wasn’t like a medical emergency of being airlifted. Not that I would like to stand up for him, but when I consider air lifting I think of it differently than using flight as his standard method of travel.

That’s the word the article used, but thank you for the clarification! I definitely don’t want to look like I’m making stuff up.

This just makes me very angry. If he’s late, then they still follow protocol and start late. There is some shit you don’t skip!! Ugh!!

The 25th amendment applies only to who takes over as president. It says nothing about who takes over the candidacy for a political party. It’s not an automatic that Pence becomes the candidate. That’s still a big question mark.

This isn’t quite true. Each state is different. In Michigan, for example, electors are obligated to cast their votes for the person named on the ballot with the most popular votes in the state. So Michigan electors would have to vote for Trump, even if he were dead. In Indiana, electors are obligated to cast their vote for the winning party, so if Trump dies, it would be the Candidate determined by the Republican Party, probably Pence but not necessarily. Since it is so vague and varied, it would all but guarantee it goes to the Supreme Court, even if Biden gets an overwhelming victory.

This administration is taking everyone out. I got two emails with more people with Covid positive results and all attended some party for trumps SC nominee. (Who also had Covid over the summer.). Way to host a super spreader there, genius.

I feel like I've been posting this article every 4 years since it was published, but it is a good breakdown of the procedure if candidates die before or after the election:

Ah, I thought someone was nominated from the party, not that it went to Pence. HS social studies is steering me wrong today!

This. Then the plot thickens again - there are only 8 seated justices on the SCOTUS.
